This gun is ugly as hell. Edit

Seriously, look at it. The randomly multicoloured lighting. The axeblade-shaped prongs for no real reason. That one blue tank. It's like a re-skin made by some 12 year old modder in a hurry before he does his homework. The Malignancy 19:36, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

I like it, its unique, the gun is supposed to be heavily modified, the lights are more energy storage/directing equipment, the axeblade prongs look strange at first, but they look pretty cool if you ask me, and they're modified to handle the near-constant stream of plasma bolts.--Katikar 20:35, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

Look good for me too. And in-game, its sound is really nice and it is rather pleasant to use. Itachou [~talk~] 21:46, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

yes, in fact, after much consideration, I've decided that this weapon is scary and sexy as hell! the stream of plasma bolts when you pull down the trigger is terrifying, and I'm the one holding the gun, imagine if you were on the other end of that?--Katikar 16:35, September 28, 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm whats that old line? "If looks could kill?" I'm pretty sure thry refer to this lol --6 Xero 9 06:30, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

I want, but I cant seem to have... Edit

Okay, i killed the Van Graffs after they went ape on me for no reason and their Crier started shooting me and i've just waited a full in game week for Vendortron's inventory to restock but he hasnt restocked once since installing GRA and there's no Smitty Special at all so my question is: Is there a means of aquiring it since the most probable vendor for it is now dead and the alternative doesn't want to sell it?

I got to agree, since we need to kill / get the Van Graffs hostiles for 2 quests, what's the point of giving them some exclusive weapons and mods? Dick move, Mr. Sawyer. Dick move.unknown

Hmm thus is the style of Fallout. Just like you have to kill someone you may not want to to attain unique loot in other cases. It's not like either quest you're referring to is essential. ***LONESOME ROAD SPOILER*** I can relate though, it boggles the mind how in order to attain the NCR themed unique grenade launcher, you have to kill NCR. ***LONESOME ROAD SPOILER***--an0my(talk) 23:44, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

I bought mine from the Gun Runners and I killed the living shit out of the Van Graffs. Implodinggoat

Just what is this weapon for? Edit

Get the regular Plasma Caster for 13000 caps less, get almost double the damage and combined with the mod even more DPS. Seriously, why does this weapon even exist?! --Vladimir-Lem 08:51, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

Actually this thing is too much overpowered! Twice the ammo capacity and 1/3 more speed attack than a regular Plasma Caster modded. Sure, it deals half the damage, but the double attacks/s way offset the drawbacks and I'm not counting more than double weapon durability. Really, we need more challenge in the game, not easiness. Brfritos 18:09, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
you want challenge? play hardcore mode, thats what it's there for. --Katikar 09:44, October 2, 2011 (UTC)
If you get the Plasma caster HS electrode the DPS is the the same as this, just almost twice the damage ... Which means Smitty Special is just a more powerful Gatling Laser, but will still simply fail against high armored targets compared to the Plasma Caster's performance.
Forgot to sign ... first post, too ... --Vladimir-Lem 08:51, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
Just a note but all automatic weapons are not really make for high armored targets actually. Itachou [~talk~] 14:52, October 3, 2011 (UTC)
I have to agree that it's 100% useless when compared to the plasma caster with HS electrode: less dps (even taking reloads into account so the higher ammo capacity argument is irrelevant), less dam, less ammo efficiency, less accurate. It's only redeeming feature is that it seems to be slightly more durable. 81.104.161.235 21:18, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Slightly more durable? Regular Plasma Caster has 80 HP while this has 220. I wouldn't call it slight difference. With Plasma Caster you HAVE TO carry at least 5 repair kits and even more if you're using max-charged ammo(not even counting Built to Destroy Trait). With a high crit build and optim. mfc this performs better than the plasma caster. Plasma Caster nice and all but realy pain to use with over or max charged MFC..--Adakutay 07:29, October 6, 2011 (UTC)Adakutay

Really? Do you see that the Smitty Special shoots almost twice as fast as the Plasma Caster with HS electrode? That means it degrades twice as quickly, too. That means it's not the difference between 80 and 220 HP, but actually just 80 and 110. That also makes the ammo capacity argument invalid, because the Smitty Special's full clip of 20 MFCs will be drained just as fast as the Plasma Caster's full clip of 10 MFCs, making the Smitty Special a thoroughly useless weapon that even costs twice as much as the regular Plasma Caster WITH HS electrode. --Vladimir-Lem 10:27, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

You think as every enemy requires a full clip to be killed. I said "performs", if you noticed. Plasma Caster is like Avenger and Smity Special is fully modded minigun. Using the caster againts every enemy is a waste or using it with max-charged ammo is damn pain. I dont know if you used the weapon but i'm saying this is a good "main gun" for any ew user. Also it's invalid that it degrees at the same speed with the caster, i know it doesn't. Also it's doesnt have twice hp; it has "almost" treble hp and more than half the damage.--Adakutay 17:08, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

Though no one said anything about half the damage and that it "degrees" (degrades) at the same speed. Refer to "almost double the damage" at the very top and "That means it's not the difference between 80 and 220 HP, but actually just 80 and 110." two posts above. Just to make all clear, I will simply post a comparison between both on the main page. --Vladimir-Lem 17:38, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
