Locked out of the arena[]

The door to the hole in the mill is locked and I haven't found any way to get in... Could anybody help please? --74.59.156.139 03:55, December 12, 2009 (UTC)Anonymous

Difficulty increases rads?[]

According to the current overview of this quest it suggests radiation isn't absorbed THAT fast (it states that using RadX will mean you can win without absorbing much rads), but in my play through, even WITH RadX (around 9 rads per seconds with rad x), an average arena match barely has time for you to burn out your VATS and pray you've won or almost won by the time VATS ends, as you'll barely have 10 seconds left to turn around and make your exit before you die - forget finding and looting the corpses.

I'm playing in very hard mode and primarily unarmed (given there are no "big guns" in the pitt I've found yet, my other weapon skill), so I'm wondering if there might be some kind of scaling going on, as you have well under 1 minute to win and get out it seems to me.

I didn't get too much radiation, about 2 per second with radX and Im on hard mode- what I will say was it was rediculously easy, esp. gruber- with a high small guns (raider commando armour helped) beer and a Chinese assault rifle i blew his head off in one round of VATs, still had AP left over. Im lvl 20 and have high agility and luck but it was just unsatisfying

From Fallout 2.[]

There's a bar in Fallout 2, called The Hole, located in The Den. It could be a reference.

Pacifist approach?[]

I'm looking for ways to complete the DLC without killing any creatures (I make an exception for Operation: Anchorage since you only kill simulations). It seems that the only required deaths in "The Pitt" are the Hole battles, but if you must kill your opponents, that's a problem (Point Lookout is already off my list as it appears to require the killing of living creatures). What I'm wondering is whether your opponents in the Hole are susceptible to radiation? If you can keep alive long enough, and have sufficient Rad-X and RadAway, will your opponents eventually die of radiation poisoning? I know Megaton residents sometimes do (by accident) when wandering through the pool by the bomb, but I need to know if I can use that in the Pitt. Can anyone confirm one way or another? I'd like to play the game through as thoroughly as possible while still adhering to pacifism (with exceptions grudgingly made for the kills required by the main quest, a radroach and the Jefferson super mutants, and allowing you to kill in simulations). They probably would, but the fact that the Bear Brothers and Gruber all wear massive radiation resisting armor and you have all your normal equipment taken off you means you will most likely die before them.Crimmastermind 09:44, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

You said that you did kill simulations in op Anchorage and Fallout3 is a game. Therefore it resembles a simultion, not killing real people. Noodle0007

NPCs don't absorb rads, sorry. If they did Cromwell would be long gone.

Can I go back?[]

I was wondering...Can I fight some more in the hole?Gruber wasn't enough and I like the caged fighting! HuangLee 18:13, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

May i ask what the point of playing as a pacifist has? it IS a game where you are required to kill things after all

Strategy Moved from Article[]

Strategy[]

  • For higher level characters and players who have already found powerful weapons such as the Man Opener, the fights are significantly easier.
  • If you've found and traded in all 100 Steel ingots, and have Power Armor Training, you can simply equip the Tribal power armor and a gun of choice (the Metal Blaster or the Perforator are good choices). With the huge advantage (and of course the extra 15 action points offered by the armor) your equipment offers over the other contestants, you'll make very short work of everyone in the Hole.
  • Characters with a high Sneak & Small Guns(80+) and the Perforator can "sneak attack critical" every single opponent in the head without even walking through the gate. This minimizes the radiation almost completely except when you have to dart in and rob their still twitching bodies...thus making a mockery out of the entire thing (confirmed).
  • Another strategy: toss grenades, rinse, repeat. Even without Ledoux's hockey mask, 5 grenades should do the trick.
  • When you enter the hole the NPCs won't be agressive while you're in the cage and they will remain passive for a few moments after the cage doors open. They will attack after a few moments, but you'll have enough time to get near them and use VATS, a headshot or two with the Metal Blaster should be enough.
  • At level 12 the Drum-Magazine Combat Shotgun works perfectly well enough to pass all 3 levels in about 10 shots total. (75+ small guns skill)--Gothemasticator 07:11, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
  • Looting the steel yard is key to succeeding in the hole. Collecting weapons and armor from the corpses gives you better options than your auto-axe or your .32 pistol (the dead soldier in Gamma armor often has grenades), and killing trogs gives you access to chems such as Rad-X, Psycho, and Med-X. Even without your gear, a mid-level character will have no trouble in the Hole wearing only Merc armor and wielding an assault rifle with proper chems.
