If you take Valentine along with you, he makes a reference to Dead Money. He says something about Shem being buried with all his treasure (including a gold bar) followed by "guess he couldn't let go."

Maltese Falcon[]

I could be wrong, but could the Gilded Grasshopper be a slight reference to the Maltese Falcon?JuniBug (talk) 06:37, December 16, 2015 (UTC)

Bugs[]

The bug listed where the case file is locked if the quest is not started at the detective agency is false. If the quest is started by travelling to the roof of Faneuil Hall when you return to the detective agency, the Marty Bullfinch file will be present on top of the filing cabinets. Picking it up adds the holotape to your inventory. The next case file, Earl Sterling's Case Notes, will then appear on Nick Valentine's desk.

There was no book handed to me when I took the grasshopper. Was confused for a long time, thinking that I had to "scrap" the grasshopper. After awhile I reloaded an old save, and it seems that each time I take that grasshopper I won't get the book. I have the quest, it's pointing at the grasshopper when I activate it, but never a book. Youtube video shows getting a book when doing what I'm doing. So I guess I'll use the console.

Jumping From Weatherby Investment Trust[]

You can also get to the Guilded Grasshopper by jumping off the roof of Weatherby Investment Trust (in power armor only, it is a long fall), thus avoiding the super mutants entirely. There is an empty balcony about half way down to Faneuil Hall on that side, even if you hit the balcony you will still need power armor.
