Roosevelt Academy Edit

I found at least 5 Super Mutant Overlords during my first exploration of Roosevelt Academy. Does this site respawn Overlords? V.A.T.S. addict 20:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

If you download Broken Steel with out beating the game The Hellfires will come in. Same with the Albinos and Overlords. Oh and the level caps too. Location Edit

I ran into one on the GNR quest, inside the Museum of Technology; and i was only level 13 (and normal difficulty)! It took a sneak attack with a nuke grenade without flinching. I had to reload 3 times before i could defeat it.

  • I was going through the wasteland gathering xp and ran into some just after quicksaving. It killed me since I was low on health, and when I reloaded a normal super mutant brute was in its place. So my guess is it's random. Dcruze 17:18, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
    • I checked with the GECK. There seems to be two places where they are outright cloned in the game. There's one at the Chevy Chase checkpoint (GNR plaza), and two just east of Paradise Falls up the mountainside at a shack.
    • I'm not sure how the mechanics works with the other places where they respawn, some type of grouped encounter or something.

Only level 3 and 5 huh? Well guess what when I was level -6 I met 10 of these and a behemoth. Seriously though, Id consider Reavers more of a pain in the ass.

Bug Edit

On Xbox 360, German version, those fellows are very often stuck in rubble - either in the wild or in city-ruins. Can you confirm this? (when killed, the corpse is sometimes inaccessible since it got lost in the rubble)

PickpocketEdit

I'm not sure about the 360 but as of 1.5 on PC it seems that overlords using tri-beam laser rifles cannot be pickpocketed; however I have been able to plant grenades on overlords using gatling lasers and super sledges.

Same problem with 1.4. Tri beam overloads can't be pick pocketed at all.

can't pickpocket tri-beams either, but can pickpocket gattling lasers, havn't tried sledges- Joe Hanson

Overlords with tri-beam lasers cannot be pickpocketed, but the ones with gatlinglasers can. I never tried this on the original, unpatched version.

  • The fastest and easiest way to kill an Overlord on any difficulty is to approach him in sneak mode, and simply place a live grenade or mine in his pocket, killing him instantly if successful. Even if you fail, he will not become alerted to your presence, but you will be unable to try again as failing will lock you out. This also works for all other classes of super mutant. However, Overlords wielding Tri-beam laser rifles cannot be pickpocketed.
  • Super mutant overlords will commonly be in possession of a Mini nuke. This can be extremely dangerous if you wait to start the GNR battle at levels 18-30 because they will run over and pick up the Fat Man in the center of the square before you ever get a chance to.
  • Due to their extreme resilience to damage, sneak attacks are a relatively effective way of bringing these monsters down. Weapons which fire several shots (such as Shotguns, the Metal Blaster, or Tri-beam laser rifle (Fallout 3)) can be very effective in this case. This is because firing these weapons outside of V.A.T.S. causes each shot to register individually, allowing the critical multiplied to deliver extremely high damage.
  • Another effective way of killing these mutants is to target their weapons. Breaking their weapon seems to either make them run or force them to find a new one. This gives you time to inflict as much damage as you can before they do so.
  • The scoped Gauss rifle is also a very good weapon to use, even when you are seen by the Super mutant. The possible knockout effect makes it easy to attack the mutant when it is down.
  • If you are in possession of the Scoped Gauss Rifle, dealing with these creatures is much easier. Simply take out surrounding mutants and proceed to use your rifle to keep them on the floor. It can take some time, especially on higher difficulties, but is a much safer way to kill them. It even makes dealing with two of them easier and quite comical, as long as your Luck is sufficient, around 1/2 of your shots are criticals so they're rolling around on the floor for a majority of the fight.
  • If you have taken the Paralyzing Palm perk you can easily take them down. Using V.A.T.S.. and an unarmed weapon, you can paralyze them for 30 seconds, quickly switching to another weapon after doing so.
  • The previously mentioned Violator, that was going to supposedly be their melee weapon[1]was either cut from the game or renamed.

Mini Nukes Edit

I've been told these drop mini nukes, and i've killed 4 of the dam things( 3 with super sledges, and one with a tri beam) used up 5 mini nukes and dam near all my 44 ammo( thank god for the ammo press) and havn't gotten a single one, i have 8 luck, lvl 25 and i'm playing on hard- Joe Han Son

Worst Overlord ever!!! Edit

I once saw a overlord and i was like OH MY GOD RUN!!!! But when I ran aleast 2 miles i have not been shot. So i go back to see the mutant. He was friendly and had 10mm pistol.

I'm on level 22 and none have shown up in Murder Pass, Vault 87, Outside and In the Capital building...Have been playing for hours and haven't seen one yet. Tried reinstalling the DLC but as yet to no avail : /

It's possible to find one at level 2, I ran from vault 101 to the outcast outpost and lo and behold there was an overlord with his asexual buddies bringing the pain to the outcasts, luckily I had a stealth boy.Amorality 16:44, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Investigating claims Edit

I'm on a second playthrough with Broken Steel installed, and I'm at level 14, having cleared all the story line missions up to Picking Up the Trail that involve fighting Super Mutants. I have not seen a single Overlord anywhere, not even in Mutant heavy places such as the National Archives. Also on my first playthrough save file (level 30), after exploring the GNR Plaza and the area near Chevy Chase a few times I have not encountered any Overlords in that area, and I didn't just wait a few days near GNR either. I left and came back periodically to refresh the spawns. Levelled Mutants as high as Masters would spawn, but no Overlords. As an afterthought, don't believe anything Werewolfhell claims. They are random spawns, and the chances of finding them before level 18, the intended break-point, are astronomically slim. But, it can happen. So, stop flaming. Reverse Pickpocketing Edit

As long as the Super Mutant Overlord isn't equipped with a Tri-Beam Laser Rifle you should be able to reverse pickpocket them.

Sneaking Edit

Use of the Chinese stealth armor and the perforator work wonders. I'm currently in V87, and I've seen more Overlords than Masters, regulars, and Brutes combined. I can sit in the middle of a hallway, spraying at them to my hearts content and they can't see me. it's brilliant. 68.239.234.132 04:23, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

A major bug. Is it just me? Edit

Now, I have been playing Broken Steel for a while now, it is purely enjoyable, I am running weapons mods, and have the first 4 DLC packs installed respectively. The only really irritating, frustrating, and just plain brain-throbbing part of Broken Steel is the fact that the Overlords seem to be able to aim their guns even when they are flinching from a crippled torso or even a crippled leg. They also seem to run even when flinching from crippled limbs, they just glide across whatever ground there is... I've tried running the DLC without any mods running, and even then they still do this. It's a really annoying bug because they somehow manage to punch me even when they are flinching from inflicted damage. I want to know; is it just me, or does anybody have this bug happening to them? And if anything, does anybody know what I can do to fix this? -Koriatsu

I have that problem if I aim to cripple both legs before finishing them. That's why I don't use the dart gun, but instead use an accurate rifle to take out one leg, then take out their weapon (those last two in any order) and then finally aim for the head to go in for the kill. I haven't failed to kill one yet like that.

Mothership Zeta???Edit

Yes, they do. They start appearing after installing the Broken Steel add-on, and if you own Mothership Zeta ánd Broken Steel, and the level of your character is high enough, they'll appear in the Cyro Labs. Mark (Tedjuh10) - Talk 19:14, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

Super sledge's Edit

I have noticed that the -25HP super sledges do in the hands of an overlord is listed on the weapon as an effect when i loot it off their corps, whereas other super sledges do not have this noted. Does anyone know whether this effect continues to work when wielded by you, or is it now purely a cosmetic difference?

Have also noticed this with the Tri-beam's -40HP, and am also curious about it?

Bug? Edit

I don't think that the "Super Mutant" (Chef?) in the Big Trouble in Big Town quest, the one in the kitchen with shorty, that looks like a Master/Overlord is a bug, I think it is for dramatic visual effect for beginning players, as the quest is quite early on. Can someone get this confirmed that it actually is a bug, rather than a visuall efects thing. Scarface11235 16:04, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
