Food and Water Generated by Scavenging Stations? Probably not.

There seems to be a notion going around that scavenging stations generated food and water, to the extent that such comments are reflected in the wiki page. Surplus food (above and beyond what is consumed by settlers) is placed in the workbench by settlers harvesting crops. Likewise, surplus purified water from wells and purifiers go into the bench.

Materials Possible From Scavenging Station

A recent edit removed "typewriter" as a possible item from the station, with the comment that editor doesn't believe anything but base resources are generated. I'm reasonably confident this is false; like the article itself states, I've gotten a number of random junk items. To test, I removed literally every item from every workshop I have except Sanctuary, then after some amount of in-game time (not sure, it's been like two real-world weeks, but I think a few days in-game), I'm going back through to see what happens.

The lists are the amount I got from each settlement, with a total at the start of the list. The numbers in parenthesis after bottlecaps is how many stores that settlement has and how many settlers. The numbers after purified water is how many purifiers I have at the settlement (I only use the big ones). Italics indicates I don't think it comes from a scavenging station (see below).

Produce is likely related to settlers tending to crops (all of my places have them). Of note, I don't get every kind of produce I'm growing, so it probably randomly picks one of the crops to add from time to time. However, the produce I get is always something I've planted at that settlement.

Purified water is likely from water taps and purifiers. I seem to get a lot more when I have purifiers than just taps, but it might just be because I don't generally create 40+ water worth of taps. On the other hand, my settlement with 8 purifiers only got 30% more water than the one with 1 purifier and several taps, one settlement with a purifier got only 11 purified water, and Finch Farm with a purifier got 0 water.

Fertilizer is likely related to having a brahmin feed trough. Not sure if it's related, but the settlement where I got 7 fertilizer is the Starlight drive-in where I happen to have 2 brahmin instead of the usual 1.

I only get bottlecaps in the settlements with stores, although my Taffington Boathouse settlement with 4 stores, including a max-level doctor, and my Finch Farm with 4 stores, got zero caps. If it matters, all my stores are level 2 except the one doctor.

In retrospect, I probably should have broken it down by settlement and listed the number of workstations there, but I... didn't. Oops. There were 11 settlements total (I didn't include Sanctuary since that workstation is ridiculously full of crap already), with between 1 and 4 salvage stations each. Of note, I have rank 1 of Scrapper (screws, aluminum, copper), but not rank 2 (circuitry, nuclear material, fiberoptics). --162.252.201.32 06:14, February 17, 2016 (UTC)
