Elevator Approach to Mechanist[]

In the alternative route, backtracking to the elevator, I could not unlock the elevator by playing the three holotapes (Xbox One). I must be doing something wrong. Do you just stand by the elevator locking terminal on the wall and play the holotapes in your pipboy? Did several times and no-go. Also tried the terminal on the desk around the corner (where this "failsafe" solution is mentioned). I backtracked before entering the Robobrain assembly area, which is at the end of the incinerator area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Unkgeog66 (talkcontribs). You have to play the three tapes in the terminal which is right next to the elevator in the security area near the beginning of the lair section. Each time you play one, a message will appear on its screen along the lines of "Voiceprints recognized: 1/3". You don't have to play the whole tape, just the first part where the person who recorded it states their name. Aya42 (talk) 17:30, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Aya. When you say "in the terminal" what do you mean? I could not find a way to put the holotapes "in" the terminal on the wall next to the elevator that is master locked, so just played them in my pipboy. Unkgeog66 (talk) 19:28, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
Assuming you can unlock the terminal, when you activate it, there should be an option visible at the bottom of the screen labelled "Load Holotape", which maps to the square button on PS4, and presumably the X button on the Xbox. If you press that, a popup window will appear, allowing you to select a holotape to insert into the terminal. You may actually be able to load the holotape into any of the terminals in the lair for this to work, but I haven't tested it. Aya42 (talk) 19:55, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks again Aya. I see my problem is the terminal needs to be unlocked (duh). As neither I nor Ada can hack master level terminals, I could not access it to load the holotapes. I will edit the page so that is clear for dense folks like myself.Unkgeog66 (talk) 20:17, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
Just re-tested, and it only works in that master-locked terminal, called "elevator access terminal". It's possible Ada may be able to unlock it if you install the hacking misc mod at a robot workbench (there's a few of these scattered around the building), or perhaps return with Nick Valentine as a companion, but I haven't tried it. I did go down and install the hacking mod to Ada. Unfortunately, she can not hack the master level, although she tried very hard.
Oh, final question--was there a password for this master terminal somewhere withing the Lair that I missed? Should be mentioned on the page if soUnkgeog66 (talk) 20:28, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
I don't think there is, unfortunately. Aya42 (talk) 20:47, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Speaking as Silver Shroud?[]

The article states you can have unique dialog when speaking as the Silver Shroud. I just tried to reproduce this and was unable to. I went dressed in the outfit and hat (even with the SMG, which isn't required for other Shroud dialog). I tried the direct approach of fighting through the robots as well as the sneaky elevator approach. Tried all dialog paths. Not once did I see an option to speak as the Shroud with the Mechanist, either for this quest or after it. Is this inaccurate game guide information? Or is there some other requirement to unlock this dialog? If it matters, in this playthrough I was nearly at the end of the main quest line and the Silver Shroud quest had been completed successfully long before. I'm not sure I ever visited Kent to get the outfit upgraded in this playthrough, if that could make a difference. Only other possibility is I entered the cell in power armor, but exited it before starting any dialog with the Mechanist, so perhaps the quest script checks for the Shroud armor requirement long before initiating dialog? Either way, we need clarification on how to obtain this unique dialog. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 13:34, July 13, 2016 (UTC)

Hello from disabled robot[]

I'm not sure if this should be on the page, but the Quantum Robobrain next to the furnace, in the section including the final access port, will say "Hello" when 1st reaching it even if it was already destroyed. DynV (talk) 02:08, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
