I'm working on a strategy guide to FO4, and I'm thinking this page is inaccurate. I was able to get Penetrator to pass through one layer of cover, but not more than that. You can definitely penetrate walls, but objects are not penetrable.
It's April 16, and gauss rifle still does not penetrate in most cases. And I am being generous, because perhaps on a handful of occasions it did.
Damage drop and weapon range[]
I have tested this as I heard its happening regardless of if target is under cover. I used pipe pistol with something like 259 range and 10mm with something like 160, Gunslinger 2 (25% increased range). Tested on settler found near campfire in concord, near those broken vehicles wile standing on top of a van behind his back at decent distance. Basically when 10mm is used to completely kill target with no cover in V.A.T.S. it took 6 hits if I remember correctly and with perk Penetrator it took one additional hit, and I'm talking on full additional hit of target life. With sneak attack x2 it does around 1/5 less damage even though target have no cover. When it come to pipe pistol with massively higher range it basically have no apparent damage loss even with double the distance in regard to target with no cover. Its interesting though when I started testing with pipe pistol from front and from side of said settler by targeting his leg I could not hit it no matter the accuracy or number of hits in V.A.T.S. even though its not visibly blocked. It only took hit after I taken Penetrator perk with reduced damage though. That said in V.A.T.S. depending on what weapon you use (shotgun really bad idea because of damage drop of and low range), what you mostly targeting and vicinity of target, all can be massively impactful. From what I have heard, targeting chest can be tricky because hand or weapon can be consider as blockade(?) and reduce damage with this perk, though you could argue you actually make successful hit on enemy chest. On other hand you can pierce multiple targets in front of your primary one, target enemy weakness/explosives blocked by enemy body orientation, body parts and of course plain cover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NEVER BoRN (talk • contribs). - After some game play it also interesting to note how weapon range affect accuracy. I was testing directly opposite to Dimond city entrance targeting guard, using plasma pistol with 203% bonus accuracy (legendary 25% bonus). What's interesting is that after finding maximum distance at 95% hit chance, moving just a step back drops chance to hit alarmingly fast. So in practice bosting accuracy is pointless and with high diminishing returns when getting out side of weapon range. NEVER BoRN (talk) 01:43, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
