I have the same issue throughout all DLC's and core game. It fires high in and out of VATS. (see http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Fallout:_New_Vegas_bugs#All_Revolvers_Miss_High). Like Flaktrooper said, I have a better chance of getting a headshot when I aim for their feet. Too bad since it's such a great gun for .44 rounds.--[[User:Postapocalypto|Postapocalypto]] 16:36, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

I believe this is actually a problem with how V.A.T.S. works in the DLC packs, and not with the gun itself. There are also occasional glitches in V.A.T.S. that cause it to be grossly inaccurate no matter the hit percentage. I'd recommend reloading a save, restarting your console/computer, or just using a different gun. The Mysterious Magnum isn't really the best gun you can get, I usually just use it as a holdout weapon or give it to Raul. can this weapon take the heavy frame?

This weapon reloads nearly instantly

also NO UNIQUE GUN CAN TAKE A MOD (but most come with bonuses from one or all possible mods)

V.A.T.S.

Anyone else having trouble hitting enemies in VATS with this gun? It looks like no matter how high your chance to hit is, it's almost impossible to hit anything, especially at short distances. --Rist 13:02, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

I'm also experiencing this, but only in the Honest Hearts dlc. Can anyone else confirm? 24.12.118.98 13:42, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it often miss even when VATS says 95%. Possibly because of the sheer recoil it has. It partially solved if you don't aim for the head. Flaktrooper, August 19, 2011.

Reservists Rifle Glitch?

Has anyone tried the Reservists Rifle glitch with this gun yet? (Reservists Rifle is in Fallout 3) The glich is, you shoot the weapon out of their hand/ force them to drop it, take it, leave the area, wait 3 in-game days (or whatever it is to make them forget their hostility) and then another of the gun will have spawned, meaning 2 Mysterious Magnums. i did that, i got the MM, but 3 days later, but it did not respond--JoeHanSon 04:13, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

Music

Is there a way to turn the music off on PS3 when you draw the gun without turning your effects volume all the way down? ---Mended Flesh- 01:30, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

The music is the only thing that makes the gun worth using, lol. without that silliness to make you laugh its not really that great of a weapon. ranger sequoia is remarkably better if you are into pistols and revolvers, and if you arnt trying to be a cowboy the sniper rifle is pretty much the end-all be-all weapon in the game with better criticals perk and hand loader shells.

  • The Mysterious Magnum is a holdout weapon, whereas sequoias and sniper rifles aren't.

On the otherhand, the Sequoia's aesthetic isn't for everyone. The thing is stupid-huge.

It's not as if this game is very hard. The Mysterious Magnum can do just fine as a late-game weapon.

I'm sorry guys, but whenever I hear that music I instantly remember that first boss fight in MGS3 with Ocelot. Also, when Orris shoots those thugs that fake death, I remember how he shot out the engine on my plane just so he could fire blank at me. Asshole. You know what? Screw Ocelot, his Thor .45-70 (from MGS4) can suck my Ranger Sequoia. --TJbrena 16:47, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

I would disagree. With SWC rounds, this works almost as well as the sequoia and is far cheaper to maintain. With Hand Loader, you get an almost 1:1 transference of normal .44 magnum rounds to Semi-Wadcutters, which are arguably the best "special" ammo in the game, with the increased damage of a hollow point and the armor damage of an AP round. Whereas the ranger sequoia chambers less rounds, fires slower, and the ironsights are a little weird. I'm not saying the Ranger Sequoia is a bad revolver, because it isn't. It's a great gun. However, the Mysterious Magnum is easier to get, easier to maintain, easier to find or make ammo for, and needs less gun skill on top of all that.

Whew. Okay. fanrant over. 24.12.118.98 13:47, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

My new Favorite

I love this freaking gun! Every time I draw it I feel like James Bond. I laugh every single time the music plays.98.209.199.80 03:43, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

Unholstering Music Playing Twice Bug

Hey, so after I did some testing regarding the "Unholstering music playing twice" bug (PC Version), I've come to the conclusion that it's a direct result from the Quick Draw perk. If someone could test it (Or confirm it) and add it to the article, that'd be swell.

If got very high agility(at least 9) or high agility(7~)+quick draw then...sometimes revolvers drawing animation played Twice(consequently more slowly weapon drawing)and also puts gun into character's ass(or body). damn it's horrible glitch!

Confirmed for xbox 360 as well, quick draw perk causes the music to play twice, however in third person it plays once. CactusLynx 09:14, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

Best single-handed weapon in the game?

I think so! If you got the Hand Loader Perk, the schematics from the guy in Vegas Square and the Cowboy perk, this gun definately outshines the 12.7mm pistol! The Mysterious Magnum is better then the Ranger Sequoia because the Ranger Sequoia has a much higher skill requirement AND a higher Strength requirement. Also the Hand Loader ammo for Ranger Sequoia makes it much less durable, while the Mysterious Magnum's Hand Loader ammo doesn't have any negative side effects. Also it's pretty hard to get a Ranger Sequoia, especially if you don't want to gain NCR infamy/want to let Chief Hanlon live in Return to Sender. The Mysterioius Magnum only needs a 50 barter skill! The Mysterious Magnum is best!

The Sequoia is surprisingly easy to get if you know where to look, and I prefer the Patridge ironsights of the Sequoia over the Express ironsight design of the MM. As for hand loader ammo, durability isn't a problem if your smart and take the jury rigging perk as well, as you can use simple 9mm pistols to repair it. The MM is good for those early to mid game fights, but the Sequoia is the better of the two when it comes to sheer shot damage, And that sexy black embroidered finish...CactusLynx 09:20, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

Drifter's father

This is the Lonesome Drifter's father's gun. He describes his father as "Like a stranger" The fact that the Mysterious Stranger's theme plays whenever the Mysterious Magnum is drawn makes the Drifter's parentage fairly obvious. Although why his father abandoned him to play guardian angel to random strangers is another story lol.

Pickpocketable?

Tried numerous times with stealth boys and 100 Sneak to steal this from The Lonesome Drifter inside of Aces High. No luck. OTOH, I was able to pull out a silenced sniper rifle while crouching about two yards in front of him and blow his head off without any hassle. Regrettable that such tactics are necessary.

It may be possible to do the same method of pickpocketing from the drifter as one does for Corporal Sterling to obtain La Longue Carabine, in that you must steal the ammunition, leave the area, come back, and the weapon will be in his inventory, granted it takes a long time to pickpocket unless your sneak is high, can someone please try this and see if it works?CactusLynx 09:23, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

It works. Zac hemker 23:29, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

As with most any weapon that you want to pickpocket, It's much easier to pickpocket when you aim for the weapon in VATS and damage it. The lower the value the easier it is to pickpocket. Not sure how it works stat wise, but I've personally had a 100% success rate pickpocketing weapons that have been damaged to 0. Be sure to save first in case you miss and do a large enough critical to kill your mark. If the mark is not dead, holstering your weapon should keep him from going aggressive on you.

If you're going to attack him, you might as well just shoot the gun out of his hand. Once you holster your weapon, he'll become peaceful again and you can just pick the gun up off the ground.

It's also worth noting that you can get a 2nd copy of the mysterious magnum by pickpocketing the gun first, then later doing the Talent Pool quest and passing the Barter 50 speech check. --Derragorn 08:37, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

I added the sound when taking out/Holstering weapon.

I'm not sure if it was required, but I just was trying to help.

Magnum in thrash can?

Is it only me who has found this gun in a thrash can near Camp Guardian? Found it completely by accident while exploring, and after completing Talent Pool, I have two of them.
