Vault 21 Edit

Can you please provide a source that he actually IS from Vault 21? I am aware of the Vault 21 suit but that's about it, he never said he was part of Vault 21 or has that even been confirmed in the magazines. Insane! 04:56, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

If he is from Vault 21, it is likely he will provide the player with a PipBoy, or the developers will introduce a new system. --Radnus 81.205.186.16 14:48, February 11, 2010 (UTC)

He does provide you with the Pip-Boy but I don't know how he's from Vault 21, he could be from any vault. The Vault 21 jumpsuit is seen but that doesn't mean Mitchell gave it to you or he's from that vault, etc. Insane! 16:27, February 11, 2010 (UTC)

okay, I was trying to find the scans off the internet, and apparently, they have all been taken down, but I DO remember reading this, I cant remember if it was OXM or something else, but mitchel says something along the lines of "I used to live in one a' them fancy vaults, til the war started, here, you can have these" and he hands you his vault 21 jumpsuit and a PipBoy 3000. once we get the magazines in person, someone needs to upload them onto the site. Legofan94 19:20, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

EDIT: nothin in ps3m, probably oxm...Legofan94 19:28, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

EDIT^2 wow, I almost got the quote perfectly right, it's inside of the pc gamer interview. It says he only gives you the PipBoy, and says "I used to live in one of them vaults before the war". does not nescesairily state vault 21, but seems verry likely. in the ps3m, it says that your reaction to the psyc. evaluation determens what equipment you recive, I.E. smarts in medicine, get a lot of stimpaks, while if you like explosives, he'll give you a handfull of grenades. pc gamer says that sunny smiles will give you "a new weapon and some upgrades", but does not state what weapon(s?) it is. chet, the merchent, can be pursuaded that if the powder gang kills off the town, his buisness will cease, and offers an upgraded nine millimeter pistol and some leather armor for protection. it says that the powder gang will be armed with blunt melle weapons, clubs and bats, and come in groups of ten, the screen shot of the grenade machine gun is being used on a group of two masters, and one brute super mutant, the brute being armed with a nail bord. the shotgun is also a single shot, not a double barell as expected. that's all I can figure out for now, hope it helps. Legofan94 20:02, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

It seems likely that he is from Vault 21. Or he just found the equipment off a corpse.---Legion- 01:41, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

How can he recollect 'before the war', and still be alive? That's what is bothering me. I mean, Vaults can preserve humanity, not insta-immortality... Unless it's just a generalization he's using about vaults, etc.174.125.122.201 05:47, May 15, 2010 (UTC) Jesska

What makes you think he's referring to the Great War? He's propably referring to the NCR/Caesar's Legion/BoS conflict. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 06:47, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Is it just me, or does that ink blot test picture look like two bears ballroom dancing.--BLACK LENNY 21:48, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

We can infer that Mitchell, then, must be a compulsive gambler. Heh. Has anyone been able to confirm that you get a different kit depending on your answers? -- ACW

He is from vault 21. If you mention him to the lady that runs the vault hotel she says old mole but and talks about him and that she hasn't seen him in a while.99.142.76.203 13:31, May 12, 2012 (UTC)Naremmak

Hmmmmm... Edit

UGGGHHH, I just cant keep this in! Ok, so this is my opinion... I think Mitchell could POSSIBLY be the Lone Wander from Fallout 3. This I think is possible because he said "I know what it is like to lose something", and also that he grew up in the vaults and had a Pip-boy and all that. Then I looked online and people were saying that the Lone Wander from Fo3 is the LW in this one, and that it is only 3 years apart <:0.... which i did not know but I still think that we could be him!!!

Except that Doc Mitchell was born in Vault 21 (or at least he says he's from a vault and gives you a Vault 21 jumpsuit) and if he was the Lone Wanderer he's aged horribly in the past 4 years. I've not seen anything that even suggests that the Courier is the Lone Wanderer. --Radloach 17:34, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, the Lone Wanderer should be 23 by now. Jauh0 18:08, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Old post, but you get my twin pennies, anyway. This game ignores the existence of the non-fallout 3, which, frankly, is one of my favorite parts of it. Also, lol. --DaedalusMachina 04:48, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

I think that your character is the same in all the games that's why Ulysses hates you so much. You build the city that was destroyed in the divide. Ulysses wanted to live in your city because it was better than Caesar's legion and NCR. Then somehow in one of the other games you blow it all up. (Never played 1 or 2 all the way through so this is all theory)99.142.76.203 13:37, May 12, 2012 (UTC)Naremmak

9mm pistol? Edit

He gave me a laser pistol. Might be because I've got the Weathered 10mm Pistol from the GameStop preorder, but regardless, he didn't give me a 9mm. SpartHawg948 07:14, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

I got a 9mm because I put guns as one of my skills I assume. Ragepyro 16:13, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, now that I think about it, energy weapons was one of mine. Maybe that does factor in. SpartHawg948 17:08, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Victor brought him to Mitchell. Edit

In the first paragraph, it says Mitchell brings you too Goodsprings, but it was Vitcor was the one who dug you out, and brought you to Doc Mitchell.GodsHand 21:14, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

also if you talk to him before first leaving the house there is option to try to convince him to get you lollipop :) - unfortunately i did not passed speech check :(

Something taken Edit

He has a dialog about having something taken from him. It's a dead end but doesn't go away. Is there anyway to find out what that was and do something about it?--Crossmr 11:45, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

It's his wife. Better bring a shovel if you plan to reunite them. Mictlantecuhtli 11:47, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
Noooooooooo, it was his home, Vault 21. If you talk to the woman who runs the hotel in Vault 21, you can ask her about Mitchell and find out that, for some reason, Mr. House had most of the vault filled with concrete. Most of the former residents moved away, the only exceptions being the owner of the vault hotel and her brother, Michaelangelo, who lives in an old workshop next-door to the vault. If you go back to Goodsprings after talking to the vault's owner, you can pass a perception check to find out that Mitchell WAS referring to Vault 21 when he said that something had been taken from him.

Lazar Edit

When i went to loot his house at the beginning i took everything, including his lazor pistol and its ammo. During Run Goodsprins Run he shot at me with bthe same laser. Is this a bug or does he carry this pistol with him at all times?

Good Now drop the skull Edit

I got the msg,"Good now press R3 to drop the skull" from the skull above the fireplace in Doc's house. Any relation to the toy car at Capt Dean?

Voice Actor Edit

After catching up with some recent Smallville episodes, I couldn't help but notice the familiar twang of Doc Mitchell's voice from one of the actors and sure enough, it's the same guy :D

Lollipop Edit

What exactly happens if you convince him? lol. nuke-a-punch not logged

he gives you three stimpaks if you ask for a lollypop from blackcatvenom

Who cares about Pre-War Books? Edit

Is it even worth a mention to say that there are a ton of useless pre-war books in his house? Unlike Fallout 3, they're absolutely without value.--DaedalusMachina 04:51, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Because when you first start out, the caps you make from selling them help you get started. 76.175.153.100 20:29, February 29, 2012 (UTC)

If you have the add-on big mountain you can give books to the book chute that will give you blank books in replacement then with a holotape you can make skill books.99.142.76.203 13:44, May 12, 2012 (UTC)Naremmak

Some of us long-time players like collecting all the books. And I mean ALL the books.Medeasin (talk) 13:17, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

Character Name Edit

In-game it is listed as Doc Mitchell. I am not aware of whether 'Mitchell' refers to his first or last name, But when full names are not provided shouldn't proper titles and surnames be used in their place when the game it self uses them? Also, this may not have occurred to whoever titled the article page, but 'Doc' can be a monicker or nickname, not just a short form of 'doctor' as a surname title. The use of which is included in the names of articles.--Xclockwatcher 07:35, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Dynamite Edit

I just started at least my 10th new game since New Vegas came out and this was the first time that Doc Mitchell gave me dynamite. When you first start and before you leave, he gave me 14 dynamite with my other stuff. I don't know if it has to do with the latest patch (which I doubt since I just started a new game after it came out) or if it's installing Old World Blues since this is my first new game with that already installed. I just thought it was odd since I never had him give me dynamite that I can remember and didn't see anything about it on the page here. 71.103.172.200 13:55, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

Chances are that you set Explosives as one of your tagged skills. --75.54.87.207 20:24, October 1, 2011 (UTC)

It's worth noting that Doc Mitchell bears an uncanny resemblance to the gunfighter/dentist Doc Holliday. According to his wikipedia article, "Holliday's cousin by marriage was Margaret Mitchell, who wrote Gone With the Wind".

An additional Speech and Medicine check Edit

With speech > 30 and medicine < 30 you can gain 3 stimpaks summa summarum 8 stimpaks after 3 checks
