It might be good to have a link here to Electronic lock pick Mk II and Expanded lock pick set as well, seeing as they are orphaned pages.--Fez 09:00, 16 Mar 2005 (GMT)

Forcing locksEdit

Anyone worked out the numbers on forcing locks in FO3?

Lighting and Lockpick SuccessEdit

Noticed something. The lighting near a lock seems to affect the difficulty of the lock. More lighting increases the 'sweet spot' range and bumps up the Force Lock success %, I think. More testing required to verify this. Xaiter 16:49, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Nope, doesn't seem to make a difference. Xaiter 02:59, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Please add a list of locks Edit

There's a page for Terminals (and their difficulties) that can be hacked using the Science skill, but there doesn't seem to be a corresponding Locks page for the Lockpick skill.

That would be more difficult to do, as there are a many more locks than terminals. However, if we disregard all containers, it may be easier. Fat Man Spoon 20:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
We have most of the Very Hard locks listed. Also, as FMS noted, there are far too many locks to be listed, and it really is unnecessary.--Cc123 20:20, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Except, of course, if you want to find the Very Hard Locks, then it kind of is necessary. Also, where is this list, I can't seem to find it. 10 November 2009

Fallout 2 info Edit

Needs more info on the mechanics. I have a skill of 16% (took Gifted perk) and when I try to use my lockpick skill on a certain desk it repeatedly says "You have failed to disable the lock" Is this based on a one-time roll, skill-check, or can I keep rerolling this til I open it? It should be mentioned locks can also be jammed, as well.

A good bug! Edit

Today my Lockpick suddenly increased by 15 points! I was on level 17 with 65 Lockpick points and when I leveled up to 18, I noticed that my Lockpick is 80!!! I added 10 more points to it and going to get bubblehead to make it 100!! (I play on xbox 360 and the game is not patched.) What a good bug!

Are you sure you didn't take the Tag! Perk?--KnightNapier 21:17, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Losing Lockpick skill Points? Edit

Ok. My Lockpick skill was 100 (no enhancements, ie no (+) after it). I then find out, its dropped to 99. (again, not a deenhacement as no (-) after it). How is this possible. This happened shortly after I reached level 20. (My lockpick was at 100 after level 19 though). Thanks

The only explanation I can think of is that you had the Lucky 8-ball before and later lost it or dropped it. The Lucky 8 Ball modifies your base Luck rather than appearing as an effect modification (so you wouldn't see a (+) next to your skills or SPECIAL stats while it is in your inventory). If losing it brought your Luck down to an odd number from an even number, it would reduce each of your stats by one. Socash11 03:26, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

A huge Bug Edit

I was in vault 11 and saw an average ammo lock, on lower level. I decided to take Mentats and use Boones beret & when I tried to pick the lock the screen came up with the terminal interface! Without writing it was still a lockpicking exercise with the screwdriver and hair pin whihc btw i couldnt unlock. Any confirmation on this bug? playing on x360 14:19, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

New Vegas Lockpick info. Edit

Removed this statement from the main page. "Locks can be hard to pick because of the lack of bobby pins." Whoever added this must really suck at lockpicking or he's trying to force them all. Every playthrough I've ever done I've always had well over 100 bobbypins left over at the end of my game.

Lockpick over 100 with skill tagged in Fallout 1 & 2 Edit

Any idea what effects it has on gameplay? CapnLilNemo (talk) 04:09, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

Great XP harvesting in Fallout 1/2/Tactics Edit

IT's a great skill to harvest easy XP for initial stage of the games.

You can lock then unlock any applicable door/locker/containers... Then get XP from that action.

Some game (or patch/fix) limit them to XP reward once a game. But it's still a good way to harvest easy XP in the initial stage of the game where 15 XP can be a good reward.

It's not overpower because the XP only matter in the early stage, and require heavy investment at that precious stage. I mention this because it's a good way to make use of the skill, and to answer the question : Why would anyone tag this skill from start.Laclongquan (talk) 12:15, March 23, 2020 (UTC)
