Even with my computer broken, I tested this to be sure. First, I looked at the script that handles the rewards. There are two. One of them multiplies the number of fingers by a global variable called "PerkLawbringerRewardMultNormal", the other "PerkLawbringerRewardMultBonus". Trying to open these in the GECK returned an error that TESDialog doesn't recognize the form type "GLOB". But given my theory that the base is 5 and you get a bonus of 5 more for 10 at Very Good Karma; versus the theory that it starts at 10 and increases to 15 then to 20 as you turn in more fingers, I performed an experiment.
First I gave the character 500 fingers and set his karma to 0. I turned these in to Sonora Cruz. The result was 2,500 caps and karma that capped at +1000. 2,500 Caps / 500 fingers = 5 caps/finger. Second, set karma to 250 (Good), and turned in 500 fingers. Reward was 2,500 caps and karma that capped at +750. 2,500 caps / 500 fingers = 5 caps/finger Third, set karma to 750 (Very Good), turned in 500 fingers. Reward was 5,000 caps and karma that capped at +250. 5,000 caps / 500 fingers = 10
Just to make sure, since the wording was something about a large number of fingers, I turned in 10,000 at once (with 0 karma). The result was 50,000 caps and karma that capped at +1000. Then, removed the remaining fingers (the script only removes 999), reset karma to 0, and added one finger back. After having turned in 10000 fingers, a single finger turned in at neutral karma (0) resulted in 5 caps and 10 karma. Set karma to 250 (Good) and added one finger. Result was 5 caps and 10 karma. Set karma to 750 (Very Good) and added one finger. Result was 10 caps and 10 karma.
This proves as conclusively as I can that the maximum you can receive per finger is 10 caps and 10 karma, and that the trigger is Very Good Karma (since a karma of 749 still returns the 5 cap/10 karma reward); number of fingers wasn't a factor, whether the number was 1, 500 or 10,000. Furthermore, the number of fingers can't be a factor in the reward per finger, since there's no script for that. Fiddlesoup 20:40, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Perk Usefullness[edit source]
You should so have this before broken steel story line, as you have to kill MANY enclave...Chaching!GodPlageon 16:18, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't think this perk is any good at all. Going through the game and at reaching 15 I prefer choosing silent running above this. Caps are easily gained anyway and there are different means of raising your karma. --18.104.22.168 18:13, December 1, 2009 (UTC)
Well, its not just caps and Karma. There's also a skill book, Quantum Cola, and of course the Plunkett's Valid Points unique item all of which can only be obtained with this perk. --22.214.171.124 17:13, April 9, 2011 (UTC)
First time I got the bonus, I had about 35 or so on me. I'm not sure whether or not it's the number of fingers because when she mentions the bonus, the dialogue states it's because she has reports of your other actions that go above and beyond what the Regulators ask. (So, it's probably either based on the fingers, or on Karma). At any rate, I am sure that the bonus is an extra five caps per finger. So, if you have 75 fingers, and get the bonus, you'll receive 750 caps, instead of 375. If anyone can find out exactly what triggers this bonus, that info should be added.
- After writing that, I re-read the page which stated the base pay was 10 per finger, which didn't sound right, so I went and got a single finger to turn in, she still gave me the speech about a bonus, and 10 caps. So, I figured my intuition was correct on this matter. So, I "raided" Rivet City's market to bring my karma down to neutral (killed all the guards, stole as much as possible), and sure enough this time around she simply said "So many of the unrighteous vanquished, so many left..." or something like that and gave me 5 caps.
- Conclusion: The base pay per finger is 5 caps, if your karma is above a certain level (still unkown, and I don't really have the time to test it that thoroughly, being on 360 all karma manipulation would have to be manual), you get a bonus for 10 caps per finger.Fiddlesoup 00:45, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
I found that if you karma is Very Good it is the bonus 5 caps, I then lowered it to just Good and I did not get the bonus. So I assume that you need a VERY GOOD karma for the bonus SuSpence95 02:46, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Contract Killer and Lawbringer[edit source]
Can you have both? 126.96.36.199 21:40, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
I have both on my Neutral karma character. (xbox 360 version of game)
I have both with bad karma (ps3)
ash/goo with fingers/ears[edit source]
I know its not a glitch or bug but I still find it weird that with the Contract Killer/Lawbringer perks if you turn someone to goo or ash they they still have fingers and ears. Anyone agree?
I think that applies to everything. Wouldn't guns and armour melt and/or appear separately?--Pratstercs 08:22, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure they don't disappear merely for convenience. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a point in using energy weapons if you wanted to loot the corpses. -- Chill02 14:24, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Why can't we cheat?[edit source]
People have eight fingers. Sonora's not likely to notice they pair up if you hand her in excess of twenty fingers all at once now, is she?
Oh, yeah, because all fingers are exactly the same shape and size and look identical. No way she'd be able to tell that you're literally handing her handfuls of different fingers at a time. No sir, definitely not. Blutteufel 06:02, September 28, 2010 (UTC)
She didn't notice when I gave her 400 at once. Spoon 02:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
It wouldn't be hard to get away with 4 per person - two index, two ring fingers. You might even be able to get away with the middle fingers too. Of course this is all moot if she demands they be cut in a certain way to prove that it was, for example, the right index finger, but we don't hear about anything like that. --Kris 12:04, September 28, 2010 (UTC)
That question asked, why can't we just cut off anyone's finger? How will she know if it was you that killed them, or if they had been bad people.JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?" 12:28, September 28, 2010 (UTC)
She has a scanner in the back that scans fingerprints. They tell if the person is a bad guy or not, and if certain fingers relate to certain people. ;) Lie to her and she'll not be a happy bunny. The Lone Wanderer knows this so much, that he doesn't even think about it, thus you don't have the option. =3 LordSchmee 12:48, September 28, 2010 (UTC)
