Naming Importance
The story of John Henry was about how man is superior to machine, and that the new fancy steam-shovels are no match for a great man with will and determination and all that stuff. The choice of John Henry for the AI mainfame is therefore ironic, as it is a machine triumphing over man (at least, attempting to succeed where men had failed) named after a man whose myth was triumphing over machine. So, like with Fawkes, it has a somewhat deeper meaning--but still really obvious.

was just wondering... who is the master mentioned? is that meant to be there or is it some idiot naming himself?
- The Master was the end-game boss of Fallout 1. Highly recommend anyone to play F1+F2 to get a real 'feel' of the game, preferrably before Fallout 3 - although we all know most people are unlikely to do that :(... - Johnbob

Trivia
Should there be any mention that John Henry Eden shares part of it's name with the AI that may turn into SkyNet in the Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles TV series?68.55.125.227 02:25, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- See the above section called "Naming Importance". They're both named after John Henry, a character from a folk story. So no, I wouldn't say so, unless somebody's willing to compile a list of every other fictional character based off it. --Solbur 03:09, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I know, I keep adding this fact but Garoux keeps deleting it and trying to ban me. Folks at Terminator Wiki seems to think it's relevant, check out what they wrote: "In the Bethesda video game Fallout 3, there is an AI called John Henry Eden, the President of what remains of the United States. He became self-aware and based his personality on all the previous Presidents in recent history from the time before the year 2242. John Henry Eden's benevolence and desire to save humanity draws many parallels with John Henry in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."
Both are AI in a post apocalypse universe (or soon to come), thus it should be added. Moreover, note that the John Nery AI does not become SKYNET, it is build to fight it

- Garoux is right to ban you, since you've been repeatedly breaking the site's policies on speculation and circumventing bans. This "trivia" is not to be entered to the article since it's speculating, and we have rather strict policies concerning that. I'm not sure how the Terminator wiki does things - neither do I give a fuck - we're not them, and the two wikis have different guidelines. Please follow this site's guidelines in the future. Morgan Freeman

**Spoilers** Still Alive?
When you wake up 2 weeks after activating the purifier, the Brotherhood claims that all of Raven Rock has been destroyed and the Enclave is now very unorganized. After you complete Broken Steel and return to the Capital Wasteland, President Eden's broadcast can be heard yet again. He is looping the broadcast as if you just started the quest Take It Back! Going back over to Raven Rock, the entrance is completely caved in. Think he is still "alive"? Maybe he is and is just malfunctioning. According to President Eden he is made of thousands of computers and that would be pretty hard to completely destroy even for Liberty Prime. ~~ReconMarine~~

It is said that the enclave eyebots and the enclave radio are prerecorded messages from long long ago and that are constantly looping. Sentinel Lyons said that "I thought it was a very old recorded message but I'd never thought they would actually appear" Wertoret 16:36, 05 of October 2010 (GMT+1)
Similare to the "Old Man in the Cave"
The story with President Eden seems to be extremely similar to an episode of the Twilight Zone. In the episode "Old Man in the Cave" a similar situation arises; where, in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, a town is kept alive by the leadership of a super computer referred to as the Old Man in the Cave. Everyone in the town, except the one man who "talks" to the Old Man, believes that the Old Man is some kind of prophet. Eventually a group of soldiers convince the towns people to revolt against the Old Man. When they break into the cave and discover the Old Man is actually a computer they destroy it. And, ultimately the people die without the computer's help.

Hoping for him to turn out to be human in the future
I hope we get a semi "Wizard of Oz" kind of nod eventually. The REAL Eden is somewhere else...The White House, duh, or maybe some super secret vault that had been meant for the true leaders of the world when the bombs fell. Masterdirector 12:00, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

Terminator / Sarah Connor Chronicles
It is extremely unlikely JHE is directly named for the AI appearing in Sarah Connor Chronicles. According to the Terminator wiki, that character first appeared on 20 October 2008; With Fallout 3 being released in NA on 28 October 2008, Bethesda would need to rewrite, rerecord, republish and distribte Fallout 3 in less than a week. Needless to say the costs and logistical problems in this make this pretty much impossible.
I wouldnt however rule out a common root in the man John Henry. Agent c (talk) 16:25, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Presidential Status
I don't really agree with the recent edit, but before I go ahead and start a revert war I thought I'd bring it to attention. Although the game guide supposedly states Eden is the President of the United States, I would argue otherwise. It depends - do we at the wiki consider the Enclave to be the United States Government? I personally don't but I'd like to hear other opinions before I go ahead and change stuff that might not need be changed. 10:12, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
