Why do the graphics for Van Buren look so bad? It was being designed around the same time as Neverwinter Nights, which uses the Aurora engine, and looks much better in my opinion. Even Morrowind looked ten times better than this. What were they thinking? Darktangent 04:17, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

What you're seeing is from a very early, pre-alpha version (a tech demo). Naturally it can't be compared with a finished product, especially since prettying stuff up is what's usually done last (first you have to get everything working). -- Porter21 (talk) 04:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I realized that, but I didn't really think it would make a HUGE amount of difference. I mean, shouldn't they want the tech demo to look nice? Darktangent 04:30, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Not really. A tech demo is exactly what the name suggests. A demo of the technological aspect of the game.

For a tech demo looking nice isn't really a priority, especially since I doubt it was intended to be available to the public. It is mostly about demonstrating that the engine is working and that it can accomplish what it's supposed to do (that dialogues and scripts are working, for instance, or that combat is functional). -- Porter21 (talk) 04:36, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
You're both probably right. I guess we'll never know how the finished product would have looked. Darktangent 04:44, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
