What perks and periodicals affect the damage of this item? I'm pretty sure certain rifleman does but I already had it maxed by the time I carried this weapon. But does it count as ballistic, energy, heavy weapons, none of the above? can the various magazines affect the damage? I feel like once we know more it might be worthwhile to list these perks and possibly magazines in the article somewhere. Being one of the top damaging weapons in the game I'm certain people are going to come here to learn how to max out this weapon

We need to figure out how charging up the Gauss Rifle effects the weapons damage; does it only do it's listed damage if it is fully charged or does it do bonus damage instead and do uncharged shots inflict less than the listed damage or not? --BattleBen (talk) 23:53, December 23, 2015 (UTC)

: half damage uncharged (full damage in VATS). Also the rate of fire is significantly lower than the listed value of 66, even when spam-clicking uncharged shots.--CardKeeper (talk) 08:25, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

:further testing: rate of fire seems to be ~20% of listed value (it fires half as fast as a fully upgraded non-auto combat shotgun) when firing uncharged shots as fast as possible.

:Against a target with 0 armor, a maxed out gauss rifle does 99% as much damage (fully charged) as a 6-cranked laser musket (also fully charged), but a gauss rifle does 148.5% as much damage on sneak attacks with the mister sandman perk maxed. Also, a gauss rifle fires much faster than a laser musket and is MUCH better in VATS. --CardKeeper (talk) 09:07, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Gauss rifle

Skylines Flight 1981 did not contain any gauss rifles for me. I got 3 Automatic Laser Pistols instead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.76.102.25 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

It's probably the same situation as with Skyrim. Sometimes even items out in the open are generated randomly from a list of items, possibly influenced by the player level. Once the G.E.C.K. is out such things can be checked more readily. --Alfwyn (talk) 10:17, November 20, 2015 (UTC)

Gauss or rail?

Magnetic accelerators come and go in many types and this one looks more like it's using rails instead of coils. ````

A Gauss Rifle is much the same as a however the coils/capacitors on the weapon allow in theory for it to be a man portable weapon. The capacitors/coils allow for the magnets used for acceleration of the projectile to be charged to a higher capacity in a shorter distance. The rails themselves seem to act as a guide and most if not all gauss rifle concepts i have seen use the rails they act as the gun barrel.

A railgun in concept is larger and more powerful but due to the nature of its design not having boosting coils cannot be sized down and keep its power. The Gauss Rifle(or gauss gun since they have no rifling) is a very workable model the capacitors at the side of the gun have coils between them to act a electromagnetic accelerators hence why the weapon does more damage with the additional capacitors. a variation of the gauss or coil gun was a Machine Gun like weapon invented by a texas inventor in 1933.....it generated no interest from the armed forces.

Effective perks and magazines?

What perks and periodicals affect the damage of this item? I'm pretty sure certain rifleman does but I already had it maxed by the time I carried this weapon. But does it count as ballistic, energy, heavy weapons, none of the above? can the various magazines affect the damage? Same here. It's hard to figure out where to store it if you're sorting weapons by type. Noobyorkcity (talk) 16:43, May 14, 2017 (UTC)

Volt Driver Reference?

The ramshackle appearance of this weapon actually reminds me of the Volt Driver (aka. "Hellbreath") Railgun from the Metro 2033/Last Light games, anyone else think that this might be a reference to that?--BattleBen (talk) 08:46, November 26, 2015 (UTC)

Nope, it's not. They just copied the design(though I should probably note that Volt Driver is a railgun and not a gauss cannon) because older gauss cannon we got used to wasn't "scrappy" enough. The guy who modeled it probably doesn't even remember where he had seen it before. 80.94.160.227 13:16, November 26, 2015 (UTC)

Yes i know the difference between a railgun and coilgun (aka; gauss gun) in fact I'm the guy who put information to that effect in the Hellbreath/Volt Driver article on the Metro 2033 wikia when people were getting confused. Though i should also point out that the Gauss Rifle in Fallout 4 in it's default state doesn't even really look like it could even function according to coilgun principles as they typically require electromagnetic coils to be fitted along the weapon's barrel which is how the projectile would move in the first place and a default Gauss rifle does not appear to have such coils. --BattleBen (talk) 23:48, December 23, 2015 (UTC)

Is the listed damage based on a regular shot or full charge?

Full charge often kills most enemies so I'd say it's probably a simple shot. I'm not 100% sure though as I'm not the one who built this page after all. 93.85.174.30 10:11, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

Why is this page listed as a location?

As the title implies, its currently listed as a location even though the weapon isn't a place you can obviously visit. Am I missing something?

Fallout 2 Reference?

Just wanting to see if I'm thinking the same thing here, but do you guys think that the ammo type for the Gauss Rifle be a possible throwback to Fallout 2, as the ammunition is scarce, but the rifle is very powerful?

Mechanics for the Gauss Rifle's charged shots

We need to figure out how charging up the Gauss Rifle effects the weapons damage; does it only do it's listed damage if it is fully charged or does it do bonus damage instead and do uncharged shots inflict less than the listed damage or not? --BattleBen (talk) 23:53, December 23, 2015 (UTC)
