Tactics[]

As Reavers function much like Deatheclaws similar strategies are effective. Darting one and finishing it up with a powerful weapon from a distance can work if you remember to mind their ranged attack. Guns with a knockdown effect also can be put to good use.

Reavers can make mincemeat out of followers, especially in numbers. Dogmeat is less than useless against them, and even Charon equipped with Tesla armor can only last a few moments against a group of two or more. If you know you are about to approach a group of Reavers set your followers wait at a safe distance.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

i would also suggest if you are playing on hard or very hard difficulty and you encounter a group of them to hotkey your stimpacks, that way if things turn for the worst u have a better chance of living to tell the tale Jaw272 14:38, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I haven't encountered one yet! Does the ghoul mask still work on them? If it does i can avoid fighting them! MissFeralsmasher--86.24.182.198 17:57, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes the ghoul mask does work. If you're fighting them in the presidential metro here is what you do: Kill every other ghoul ASAP. Then lure the Reaver to a railing and get on the other side, just out of reach and shot gun them in the head repeatedly and you'll be close enough that they won't use their greande attack. Be carefull as they can glitchthrough the railings after a few moments.--Jordanish 09:05, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Honestly the best tactic you can use against these things is a stealth field(Stealth Boy/CSS/whatever mod item you want), a high powered rifle and careful aim. Sneak crit HS them. Reason I don't advise a head-on attack with a powerful big gun is that when you do that, most of the time they will spazz out and become nearly invincible. I've done over 10,000 damage to one in spazz-out mode and barely knocked a single bar off, but if I sneak crit them while stealthed they drop like flies and don't spazz out. And even if they do they do it dead, which leads to some absolutely hilarious Havok glitching in place of the PC getting beat to death with their own liver. TestECull 05:54, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the best tactic would be stealth field plus silent weapon - without DLCs, your best bet is a high-end melee weapon since those are silent (not sure about the ripper, but all the others are for sure). With The Pitt, the best strategy is to use an Infiltrator or the Perforator. If you only have Operation: Anchorage, then the CSA and Jingwei's Shocksword is the best combo. Reavers[]

I agree that revers in fallout are probably not a reference to Gears of war, but I wonder if Firefly could have facilitated fallout's reaver concept. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaver_(Firefly) --136.165.203.100 17:02, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Cannie

As much as i lvoe firefly, I'd say no, especially considering the above point about FOT. DragonJTS 17:15, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

The only Thing about tactics is that reavers were a human cult the worshiped technology, not to mention that tactics is not considered canon. There is a possibility that they will tie in this cult and that is how these ghouls can use weapons as they are transformed humans from this cult. Although i still like my firefly idea even though you are probably right and it has nothing to do with this.--136.165.203.100 17:19, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Cannie

Though I doubt the Reavers are a reference to Firefly (cool show BTW), it certainly makes infinitely more sense than a GOW2 reference.67.211.81.140 17:27, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

There is a certain resemblence. Both are completly insane to the point of outright cannabilism, charging towards potential emals with no thoguh of personal preservation. And both are mutated (one via lack of engine containment) DragonJTS 17:29, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

--== glitched?== Has anyone noticed these things go spazarific sometimes? They take barly any damage, and start convulsing like crazy! Is this just happening to me?--70.42.129.198 05:17, 7 May 2009 (UTC)drnick

No, I had the same with all Reavers down in the Presidential Metro. Nearly broke Vengeance taking them down (went from perfect condition to about 25%)... -- Porter21 (talk) 15:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Confirmed here as well. They also become elastic when you shoot them with the Gauss Rifle, at least the ones in the Presidential Metro. fubarmonkey 02:28, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm thinkin it's intentional, sort of like how the agents go nuts in the Matrix to avoid bullets. I like it. These are the toughest hombres in F3 imo (forgetting behemoths), and were needed for high-leveled players. I had trouble with them at L26 with most skills at 100 (playing at hard), was finally able to handle the mess in AAFB tunnels with multiple Nuka grenades and my metal blaster, and a well-timed Fat Man shot.--173.18.255.101 06:13, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
When these guys go crazy in the presidential metro, I've found them to be nearly invincible. With 100 big guns, ive used 8 mini-nukes to kill just one, and on other occasionas as many as 13 bottlecap mines to kill again just one. I just cant see it being intentional. --99.184.21.230 15:50, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes these things are much too powerful for it to be intentional and it is VERY frustrating because they do so much damage and knock you back like 10 feet each time they strike you. Ridiculous. I actually threw my controller in frustration before I read this page >_> 68.205.81.87 05:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

  • sigh* After Beaking My Main Weapon In The AAFB Meto I Had To Kill 4 of 'em with a .32 pistol and police baton (good thing I have those bugged perks from PL) Teh New Guy 03:30, April 22, 2010 (UTC)

I've even had trouble with killing these things, and I use modded weaponry exclusively. Assault rifles doing about 150DPS, pistols up to 20, 2hand rifles up to 150 per hit, even have one weapon which does a staggering 1250DPS(An M2 browning, to be specific). Even that doesn't do any damage to a Reaver when it spazzes. I can check their health via console, using "getav health", shoot two complete magazines at them, check it again and note no change whatsoever. I think what happens is that the ragdoll itself goes bezerk, and with that the hitbox. Once in a while you'll get a lucky hit, usually with explosives, but it's moving around so fast and so randomly that you do very little damage to it if you even manage to hit it at all. Their invulnerability is tied to their spazzing in my experience as when they don't spaz my weapons chew through them like it's nothing. Child's play with the M2, I don't even have to try with that thing when they're not spazzing. Stupid reavers... TestECull 05:50, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Armor[]

SHould it be put on the page that the armor they were resembles broken metal armor?(Ironic considering the dlc's name is broken steel) Werewolfhell 14:45, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

What sucks is that I can kill a metal armor human with 3 laser rifle shots but this ghoul with DEGRADED metal armor can get stepped on by liberty prime without dieing.67.167.50.17 23:18, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

"Trivia"[]

I deleted it- the idea of a zombie like thing throwing projectiles is not exactly very unique. Especially the idea mentioned, I mean, if you're going to talk about shooting projectiles out of the body, what about a Glowing one?

THESE things killed Charon three times, so I had to leave him with Margot and kill the Reavers myself, infact I had to do that when i was at Adams Air base too! 74.170.163.209 15:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

That's nothing, I had Charon, Jerico, Clover, Butch, RL-3, and Fawkes with me, and only Fawkes survived, despite the fact that I was only on normal difficulty, and I was using the alien blaster, but I couldn't kill them quick enough, partially thanks to the stupid spaz glitch making them invincible. That aside, it took 3 hits or so each with the blaster to take them down, ridiculous, especially considering most tough enemies (talon mercs, super mutant masters, sentry bots) only take 1-2.Cavesloth 20:50, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

Pick Up?[]

When I was sweeping up a couple of reavers left in the metro line, one of them threw a radioactive gore at me and it gave me a button (like when you pick up something fired out of the Rock-It Launcher) that said Radioactive Gore, the damage number, and the value.

Moved from main page[]

*BOP writes on 16 May 2009: "I was at a level...20, I think, when I downloaded Broken Steel to my xbox 360. Charon and I ran across our first Reaver in one of the train yards. Bear in mind that Charon is wearing Outcast power armor and can take out a Death Claw with one or two shots from his magic shotgun. My PC can drop a Mutie or a Death Claw in one or two shots from her sniper rifle. That Reaver was RIDICULOUSLY difficult to kill. I was SCREAMING at the game as I watched my PC and Charon die at least 3 times. Finally, I loaded a previous save, made Charon wait while I went to deal with the Reaver. I hit hims with everything I had, including frag grenades. I jacked up on Buffout, Jet, Med-x, you name it, and still barely survived. I'd hate to see what it would take to kill one of those things on a difficult combat setting. Anyway, I ran into the one in the Taft tunnels (new game, level 14), on the way to the Citadel (being proactive, I went down after the ghouls rather than having them come up after my party). The first time, my PC died. The second time, I hit that thing with the gauss rifle (to little effect) and grenades, but somehow lost my gauss rifle. I was excited about that, and having to reload the game, but the third time around, I nailed him with 3 of the 4 nuka grenades (after getting all jacked up, and wearing winterized power armor), which made somewhat short work of him. Nuka grenades are your friend, but not in enclosed spaces."

Yup, they are dang tough, and I love it. My level 29 character was able to kill one (game setting at hard) down in the hazmat tunnels by the mall by sneaking near it with the Chinese stealth armor, placing two bottlecap mines (500+ damage each) between it and me, and hitting it in the head with a sneak attack critical from Lincoln's repeater. The second bottlecap mine took it down as it was coming after me. Just watch out when you get to the Presidential tunnels, there's a place where you run into about 5-6 of them along with a bunch of glowing ones and lesser feral ghouls. --173.18.255.101 01:25, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Combat Tactics[]

  • Be careful when fighting these variants of Ghouls. Even one is capable of killing the Lone Wanderer if he/she is not careful.
  • It is also best to use drugs such as (Psycho, Med-X and Jet) to increase the damage of your attacks on the Feral Ghoul Reaver.
  • Reavers can be easily destroyed if you are on a ledge. Just make sure you shoot their radioactive gore they throw at you, as it does a surprising amount of damage.
  • Like with the Deathclaw, crippling the Reaver with the Dart gun will give you a much easier time with them, but beware: their radioactive gore attack is just as if not more deadly than their melee attacks.
  • One effective way to take down the Feral Ghoul Reaver's is to use the Alien blaster, however it can take a number of headshots and wastes valuable ammo (The Alien power cell)
  • A Feral Ghoul Reaver can survive a direct shot from a Fat Man.
  • Using a combination of the Victory Rifle to knock him over, then A3-21's Plasma rifle to finish him off
  • A quick and effective way to take him out: equip the Ghoul mask, then throw a couple Bottlecap mine, three will surely kill him, at his feet (DO NOT throw it straight to the ghoul, since the mine impact will turn him hostile). Then, get clear to avoid any possible damage from the blast and take the Ghoul mask off: this will make the ghoul become immediately hostile, thus triggering the mines.

Kingclyde 17:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

  • Crippling their arm could be effective to decrease aim and stability of their throws.
  • Forget the Gauss Rifle (not that good) and the Fat Man (with its rare ammo). For those on the GOTY, or who have the other DLC's apart from Broken Steel, the most effective weapons against Feral Ghoul Reavers (which I am surprised haven't been mentioned) are without a doubt the Metal Blaster (acquired from Everett in The Pitt) and the MPLX Novasurge (acquired in Mothership Zeta). Either one can take down a Reaver in under seven headshots (assuming Energy Weapons 100), with the MPLX working particularly well for high critical chance players (it has a x3 crit. multiplier) who also have the Better Criticals perk. Also, for those lucky enough to have the Chinese stealth armor, the absolute BEST way to guarantee a kill is to get right in their face and get point-blank sneak attack critical with The Terrible Shotgun. At maximum Small Guns skill, and with the right damage-multiplying perks, this will always result in a one-hit kill. If you need to take down multiple Reavers then the best strategy (which I think may have been mentioned) is to hit them with the Dart gun, and then just make sure you keep some distance between you and them as you repeatedly hit them with the Metal Blaster or MPLX Novasurge. Hope this helps. ~~ BlindHorse; 30th November 2012; 12:29 PM GMT

Encountering at Mid Levels[]

I was at Level 14 and if you goto Grayditch and travel towards Red Racer factory, there is an outpost there. Opposite there I found a reaver and 2 roamers. I also had clover, that thing made mincemeat of Clover at least 3 times before killing me, i mean bloody hell this makes mirelurks look like a picnic. I didnt even have the dart gun so crippling took ages. I can tell you that this was the first time an enemy became really frustrating and when you kill one you get <10 caps, I mustve used 10 stimpaks-thats already 300 caps + ammo + repair costs. Not only are they hard but theyre freaking expensive too. There should be a more clearer way to dispatch these, eg. some sort of weakness you can exploit. Cripple and kill is not bad but id prefer something stronger. Heck, even eugene couldnt get this freak. I dont know how im gonna survive in the metros or the Dunwich building for that.

Reaver[]

What are historical reavers? --70.142.41.253 18:37, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

A reaver is basically a pirate; one who pillages, loots, and steals.

Tactics[]

It shall be noted that the Dart gun is essential when battling a Ghoul Reaver, especially since it is their melee attacks that hits the hardest. Their Radioactive Gore attack can be ceased by shooting the it when it is in their hand. An effective way to deal with them is using the Dart gun to cripple their legs, followed by a Jingwei's shocksword or Tesla cannon due to its damage over time effect. A Fat Man (Fallout 3) would do fine too, if you dont't mind wasting precious Mini nukes.

Most importantly, it can also easily kill most followers if you're not careful; so either leave them at a safe distance or constantly watch them. If you thought that was the worst, reavers can be encountered as low as level 13, which can be highly dangerous to an improperly equipped character.

I always carry something huge for times like these, my first one was killed with a Gauss rifle,Psycho, and Med-X, plus 3 Bottlecap mines. that said, these things killed me my first time i saw one, and the second time those robots in the presidential metro did nothing. leave partners somewhere else, except fawkes.--Valoopy

Video?[]

Can somebody with PC version take a vid of the Reaver freakouts? They are crazy jiggedy. Do the regular Ghouls move hella fast like that? No other Ghoul has ever survived long enough for me to really se their movements. V.A.T.S. addict 21:53, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Microwave emitter in Lookout Point usage.[]

I have found that the Microwave emitter to be able to take down reavers in one nearly a whole usage of AP or maybe just a few follow up shots afterwards when I've snuck up on them.

I'm not sure if this is specific to the Microwave emitter in general or maybe mesmeretrons are a good way of taking them on? (was around level 18 and had sneak and energy weapons near maxed..)

Some scary stuff[]

Ok i don't know if it glitched or not but on point lookout I have a reaver by the Trapers Shack attack me right? Shoot it with the double barrel and....It lives and launches like 100ft in the AIR for no reason and still throws radiation until it hit the ground and died but did I find super reaver or a scratch in my disc?\

Dont worry about it too much, It's a pretty common glitch that happens mainly with deathclaws, but has been known to happen with other creatures too. WouldYouKindly 05:21, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

ADDED by Point Lookout?[]

If one did not have Broken Steel, but had Point Lookout, would the Reavers still be in Point Lookout? And would Reavers be added to the Capital Wasteland if you do not have BS but do have PL? I have both, but I noticed two Base IDs. //--TehK 03:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Reavers will be present in PL even if you don't have BS. And for all intents and purposes, they are exactly the same. And no, they will not be added to the Capital Wasteland, because they are not added to any leveled encounter lists for the Capital Wasteland. However, a mod could easily fix that. --Macros 07:14, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Eh, I was just asking, I have both add-ons anyway lol. They should have at least retextured the Reavers for PL :( //--TehK 16:53, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

So think about it, if you download both Broken Steel and Point Lookout, you're getting less for your money right? Because if you download one of these packs, you're getting Reavers in your game. If you download the other pack, then you're just getting what you already had, but for an extra few pence/cents.

There's also a Reaver in the Cryo Lab on Mothership Zeta. I don't know how to add this to the main article so I'll leave that for someone else.

Reavers in other add-ons are a result of Broken Steel being installed. Point Lookout is the only other add-on that actually adds reavers. --Kris User Hola 00:31, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Sneak detection?[]

The article states that Reavers can detect the Sneaking character in the Chinese Stealth Suit. I have found this NOT to be the case. I hit one in the cemetary near Ark and Dove probably 10-15 times with the shock sword (in and out of vats) with the stealth suit on and alert never went above caution. Same thing at the Detention Center. My alert went to danger against 1 reaver, probably because I did something dumb like bump into him. V.A.T.S. addict 23:35, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

In reply to the above: Not all Feral Ghoul Reavers have this, but it definitely happens to some of them, namely a few lurking in the metro stations under the DC area in Capital Wasteland. Specifically, they don't "detect" you in the sense that your status goes to "DANGER", but they seem to have some kind of proximity alarm that makes them go into "CAUTION", even if using a Stealth Boy and/or Chinese Stealth Armor. This is exactly the same bug (if that's what it is) that affects the Talon Company random encounters. - BlindHorse; 30th November 2012; 15:09 GMT

Yeah, I actually find them pretty easy to sneak up on, even without the CSA (which I don't use because it's cheap, imo). I removed it from the article but feel free to put it back in if this isn't the case with all versions of the game. HBS75.69.104.65 02:00, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Reaver doin the matrix?!?[]

When i was going through the presidential subway to get to the airbase. Then i come to a chamber where robots and zombies are fighting. Everything was killed exept one reaver. I must have been spazzing out because its upper body was moving very fast randomly. Fawks could barly hit it with hit galting laser. When i FINALLY killed it its body was flying all over the place.I find it body in air the air motionless. Is this a common glitch for The 360.

Same thing happened to me but with multiple reavers. It sure looked like a bug. 85.226.157.90 21:32, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Sign the posts! Same thing happened to me. They have these spasms and only their legs will take damage, unless you use a nade. I found this VERY annoying on very hard with 6 followers in the metro tunnels. And by that time i didnt know the reavers spas up. MPLX Fantasurge 00:27, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah this happens to me alot. it usually happens when you shoot its torso with a rapid fire weapon, like a gatling laser or minigun. P.S. shouldn't this be added to the bugs section? Badbadger 19:43, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Radioactive Gore[]

Iv'e read through the entire article and discussion page. Alot of people say that it says you can pick up RG, but for me it told me HP and RADS like I was drinking it. Or at least I think so.

Incredibly tough[]

Like a idiot i fought the reaver in the Presidential metro with the unique chinese assault rifle and combat armor on hard with Star Paladin Cross equipping the plasma rifle/hellfire armor at lv22. Dumbest idea ever, it took 200+ rounds to the head to kill, but fortunately Cross does make a pretty good tank lol, nearly as good as fawkes.

I... must be crazy. Playing on Normal, these things are hard, yes, but I've never, ever been in danger of dying from one. I don't take followers around because, well, I'm the Lone Wanderer. And I wear Armored Vault 101 suit because I like how it looks, but it offers practically nothing in the way of DR. Even in the Presidential Metros, with two spazzing, I still took them down pretty easily with Dart gun -> Lincoln's Repeater -> Metal Blaster. My Luck and Perception are both 10, so maybe I just get a lot of criticals? But I don't see what all the hype is. Albino Radscorpions were the bullshit enemies, before I took Entomology.

First, wouldnt it suck if you had to face 1 in The Hole in The Pitt. Second, if you encounter 1, no groups of ghoulettes or glowing ones, if you have the MIRV, SAVE, equip it, and fire away! Third, this is an acctual story that happened to me. P.S., My name is Ark on the game(after Ark Thompson on a different game): I was walking around in point lookout, trying to find some thing to do. so, as i was walking, i just happened to be passing a gang of ghoulies. i got out my chinesse sneak armor, along with my lucky shades, combined with a hotkey of the trench knife, backwater rifle, a double barreled shottie, and a set of frag grenades(about 50-60.) i took aim with my backwater rifle and dispached all but the reaver. then, with a combo of 4 frag grenades, exactly 2 trench knife slashes, 7 shots of my backwater rifle, and finished it with 5-8 double barelled blasts . keep in mind i had critical sneak attacks going off like crazy, and my guns were mostly in good condition. i only used 3 stimpacks, with a combo of running backwards , jumping and firing. it only took me about 2-5 minitues to kill it. ( the reaver fits are helarious LAWL!!!!!)

on a note[]

for incredibly tough, i was the one who wrote that, my name is fn6000, and i didnt sign in by accident

aghhh![]

i meant that i only wrote the bottom half! the one part about point lookout! SORRY fn6000

Half Life Gonome?[]

This seems reminiscent of the Gonome from Half Life: Opposing Force. Heres the page off of the half life wiki http://half-life.fandom.com/wiki/Gonome --Atlas Lied! 15:00, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Only to the degree that all zombies are reminiscent of each other.--Gothemasticator 20:21, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
A super mutated version of an already mutated one that throws deadly gore? Yeah you're right nothing alike.--Atlas Lied! 21:31, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
You're a game designer (or a movie producer). You've already got some version of zombies (created by a virus, by radiation, by black magic, whatever). You're trying to ramp up the action for the later portion of your game/movie. How to make your zombies scarier/tougher? Give them a ranged attack. What do deranged mutated zombies use for a ranged attack? How about gross bodily stuff? Yeah, that's a good idea.
My point being, neither one is a reference to the other. Sure they are similar, but in the same way that all zombies are similar to each other. It's parallel development of ideas in a pretty narrow corridor of possibilities.--Gothemasticator 21:44, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
No, they're obviously a reference to 28 Days Later because of the projectile bloody vomit spewing zombies in that movie, amirite? Just messin', but seriously: Gothemasticator is right. You can only have so many types of enemy that slowly amble their way toward you. If you already have a melee enemy (Feral Ghoul), you'll need a tougher melee enemy (Roamers), then a short-range enemy (Glowing Ones), and finally a long-range enemy (Reavers). It's not like you can give a zombie a gun, either. Have you ever seen the undead wielding AK-47s? ...I thought not. (not to beat a dead horse or anything) ~Iridia talk | contrib 00:57, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
I have seen undead wielding guns. In Siren, the shibito wield various weapons including small arms. I don't know if they're really "undead" per se, but shibito (屍人) means "dead person" or "corpse person" and they're certainly zombie-like. So there. Flash's gun is awesome 15:50, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

It is possible to pick up and radioactive gore in the PC version. It doesn't have a pip icon and looks is thrown like a grenade, despite not having an ingame model. Can kill a reaver with 4-5 shots with max skills.

The easiest effective tactic against one reaver[]

Use melee weapon like shishkebab or fine katana. Let it attack. Block. Then chop. Block again. It won't throw stuff, and when you block even if you loose some HP it will be way less than without blocking. You should leave your followers waiting far enough, because it's almost impossible to protect them, since it attack them first completely ignoring your attacks.

My tactic is cool because it requires no ammo and it's pretty easy to perform. If you ever played "Elvira Mistress of The Dark" on Amiga, you know that kind of combat. Here it works exactly the same. Melee weapons rule. I have 70% on melee weapons and play on very hard skill.

Tough stuff[]

These things are a nightmare to deal with. On the Very Hard difficulty I found that a sneak attack critical from a moderate condition Fat Man (around 70%) while using Psycho and with 100 points of Big Guns skill still left the bugger with around a fourth of his health left. That being said it is still the most effective way to kill them I've found yet, especially if there is more than one present. The Gatling Laser also seems to stumble them pretty well, but be prepared to use up a lot of ammo unless it is being used to finish a weakened one off.

Yea they're pretty goddamn ridiculous. They also hit for far too much damage on VH: I had the full 85%DR (full T-51b, Tough Survival Guru, Toughness, etc.) and it still only took six attacks from a reaver to kill me. Sov68n 11:44, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

Reaver Kill Method[]

The reavers can be a pain in the neck and really tough to beat (I play on the hardest difficulty setting). Personally I choose to cripple one of their legs by throwing one or two frag grenades at them and then in case of their legs isnt crippled shoot lets say with a plasma rifle at it, once its crippled they are slowed down and cannot perform those fast attacks which will buy you time and comfort, it takes a while to take them down but at least your safe and sound along the way, Thats how it works for me

The Reaver Tactic is usually charging right at you, however at medium distance they will throw gore, if this happens you have no choice but to rush it because that gore can cripple you easily. If you have a melee weapon, use it in Vats first too see its effect, if it has little effect abandon it and switch.

Thats all i can recommend but you can make your own decisions.

um one question. Why would I use like 15 guns on a Reaver? I find my Man Opener/Backwater Rifle/MPLX Novasurge/Tesla Cannon/Railway Rifle combos are effective enough, although i HATE the fact that in this game, you NEED power armor to survive.MPLX Fantasurge 00:32, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

The strangest bug[]

While fighting a ghoul reaver in Bethesda ruins (after luring it out of the underground) I tried to fist fight it. The result was 'spaghettification' as the ghoul flew around the sky, occasionally getting stuck in buildings. I tried this several times, on the forth attempt my character suddenly died. Although I was fairly low on health I did have 85% damage resistance. Anyone else experienced this?

Toilet Seat?[]

Um why does it say they look like they're wearing toilet seats around thier neck?MagnumUser 14:18, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

Point Lookout to The Capital Wasteland[]

I've only got Point Lookout, no other DLC, I know you can meet Feral Ghoul reavers in Point Lookout then, but is it possible to encounter Reavers in the Capital Wasteland with only Point Lookout installed? Deidara93 19:14, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Nope, you won't see any Reavers outside of Point Lookout without Broken Steel. This includes on Mothership Zeta; only Broken Steel unlocks the high-level monsters there (reavers, overlords, and albino radscorpions). --Kris mailbox 17:23, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Killing Reavers[]

The following is all about ways to effectively kill Reavers. This simply means that shooting them in the face with a gun doesn't really count!

Knock Down Effect[]

Retrieve a weapon that has a knock-down effect and a good critical hit rate. (The Gauss Rifle is one of the best choices for this method because it crits A LOT as well as having a knock-down effect, plus it has long range). Shoot the Reaver repeatedly with your weapon, hoping to score a critical hit when the Reaver is charging at you. This should eventually kill the Reaver without it coming even near you, ofcourse dispensing some ammo in the process.

Guardians[]

Get a strong companion to tag along with you (Fawkes, Sergeant RL-3 or Dogmeat preferably) and have them attack the Reaver while you hide behind them. They will take all the damage the Reaver deals while attacking them, and the Lone Wanderer can keep a safe distance while also attacking the Reaver. Take note that the three 'creature' followers would most likely be the only ones capable enough to take on multiple Reavers and live to tell the tale.

Cripple[]

A well known method, this requires the player to have a weapon that cripples limbs really quickly, or simply to have the Dart gun in one's possession. Once the Reaver's legs are crippled and it can no longer lunge at you like a deathclaw, the only thing you would have to do is dodge the balls of radiation it will throw at you.

Ghoul Mask[]

While wearing the Ghoul mask every hostile ghoul you encounter will be friendly. Why start a fight with a Reaver when you can simply avoid it?

Note: If you do want to fight a Reaver and have the Ghoul Mask equipped, staying hidden and attacking it (PS3 Version) will not make it hostile as it acts like a friendly NPC. Theoratically this means you can sneak attack it 3 times in a row before the Reaver becomes hostile.

Your Input?[]

If any one has more theories in killing these Feral Creatures please help contribute :)

Fix For Pres Metro Glitch[]

The ones that glitch in the presidential metro can be "fixed" in the PC version. Open the command console (tilde ~ key on US keyboards), select the glitching ghoul by clicking on it (may need to try several times if explosions or debris is in the way) and type DISABLE. It will disappear. Type ENABLE to bring it back and it will no longer be glitching. Kill it as normal. --97.73.64.142 19:58, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

Toned Down :)[]

Is it just me or do the Reavers in New Vegas not nearly as tough as they were in Fallout 3? Gheart 21:09, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

Mi Breda[]

Once again I GUESS!! I wasn't high enought level when I was in the lincoln memorial on BS very hard. I just said screw it and killed the Ghoul Reaver on easy..

Reavers in New Vegas[]

I have encountered a few Reavers in New Vegas (at the nuclear test site, for example), but have yet to see one hurl radioactive gore at me like they did in F3. Then again, I'm usually dealing with them at sniper distances, so I might be out of range. Can anyone confirm that they throw gore in FNV?

--FritzCat66 17:53, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

I too have not noticed them hurl anything at me, and I play close-combat style. --Chuckalakala 11:12, March 7, 2011 (UTC)

Stuck Gore?[]

I was playing through Point Lookout, and encountered a number of Reavers in the graveyard near Ark and Dove Cathedral. After slaughtering them with Vengeance, I explored the immediate area a bit. I took a few steps, and got the little 'grenade indicator arrow' around my cross-hair. I looked around, but there were no Reavers around to throw more. Cautiously, I followed the arrow and found a chunk of radioactive gore stuck to one of the tombstones! It was just floating, and I couldn't pick it up or interact with it in any way. I don't know if this is a bug with the gore, or with the graveyard, but I just thought I'd write this down. RolandVH 18:46, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

Spilt[]

I belive splitting them for each game would be best, they act diffrent in each game and are only found in Broken steel for F03. Spraynpray9932 19:42, April 27, 2011 (UTC)

Why is this article named "Ghoul Roamer" instead of "Feral Ghoul Roamer", seeing as the latter is the in-game name? Elanorea 13:16, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Intelligence[]

With the Chinese stealth suit I have been able to sneak up into groups of Ghouls many times and from what I seem that look to be slightly intelligent I have before seen a Feral Ghoul Roamer praying at a makeshift cross constructed from Bones and sticks. (Or at least it looked like a cross to me) They also seem to care about each other, In these colonies I've seen the Ghouls form a sort of perimeter around some form of radiation and the damaged ones go in to heal themselves.--Anzoon 19:56, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

That would make sense as Feral Ghouls are only Feral because their mind is completely gone, but their intelligence shouldn't be. They should still retain some intelligence but their brains have reverted to a more primitve existance.--KnightNapier 17:18, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Feral Ghoul Reaver Mineproof[]

For some reason I've already come across a few of these in my current game and they just walk over mines like nothing. I laid down about 15 inside of a long hallway and none of them went off. I don't know if this is a bug or what but I think it should be noted since it's happened multiple times that I've faced them in different places. 71.103.182.71 10:27, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, those things definitely don't set off mines. I've tried a few more times and they just run right over them. 71.103.182.71 23:31, May 20, 2011 (UTC)

An error in the article[]

In the article there are 2 feral ghoul roamers : Feral ghoul roamer 00072b79 and Feral ghoul roamer 0009fafb I spent a moment searching why I never met the weak ghoul roamer described in the article but only the strongest one.

and finally I found :There is a mistake in the article, the feral ghoul mentionned is NOT a roamer. The feral ghoul roamers are 0009Fafb and 0001cf77 and they are exactly the same, same model and same statistics.

The feral ghoul 00072b9 is one of Roy philips ghouls attacking Tenpenny tower, they are never met elsewhere in game, only the regular ghoul roamers, CrFeralGhoul2A and CrFeralGhoul2B, level 6 with 80 HP.

The second one listed as a feral ghoul roamer (0072b79) is a regular feral ghoul based one the feral ghoul 1A, not the feral ghoul 2A and it doesn't even wear the armor. The armored feral ghoul seen during the tenpenny attack is the MS12FeralGhoul2B with ID 00072B8A or the MS12FeralGhoulAttack2B with the base ID 00072B7F, and the same stats than the CrFeralGhoul2A : 80 HP, level 6 --Croquignol (talk) 12:32, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

Me again. The article says (still about ghoul roamers) their armor offers some protection...No, the armor is only a design, it doesn't offer any protection. The ghoul roamer has the exact same DR as the regular ghoul, only more HP. their armor is only part of the model, it is not real and doesn't offer any additional protection. DR is not used for any creature in Fallout 3, except Fawkes and possibly the dog (don't remember the name).--Croquignol (talk) 12:48, February 7, 2013 (UTC)
