He's Male

"Later entries on the same computer indicate that all test subjects were destroyed after failure, so Fawkes was put in the cell some time afterwards."

I’m pretty sure when you first meet Fawkes he says the other Super Mutants put him in the cell. If I’m right all this talk about Fawkes originally being female are completely unfounded and it should be removed from the article XD

It is unfounded. It comes from people reading that test subject D624 was female and that the terminal at Fawkes' cell says it contains test subject D624. They however love to ignore that another terminal entry says:
Template:Notebox
This terminal entry refers to all test subjects in the group which includes D624. Plus the terminal entries are roughly 200 years old; Fawkes would be a Behemoth if he was that old since Vault 87 mutants grow bigger with age. -- Porter21 (talk) 16:13, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
The terminal of Isolation Room 01 states that one of the specimens, B164, is in there, but when you examine it there are two dead Wastelanders and one dead Raider in it. The corpses are rather "fresh" unless you want to speculate about FEV and/or radiation preserving them.

That is another clue that the specimen information might not be accurate.

Well,if he was a behemoth,at least you wouldn't be scared of albino radscorpions anymore.or the weird HickDicks. Blackhole Dawn 16:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

He's male, there are holotapes of Fawkes' old personality; he was a security officer named Shelton Delacroix who was really one of the last to be turned into a Super Mutant. While inside the Vault, he was one of the first to realize what was going on, as he saw an unconscious guy being dragged from the dorms to the labs by two Vault Scientists. He even described the FEV test subjects, who all were grossly deformed. When the scientists came for Shelton after finding one of his old recordings, A friend in the security team told him to run before they found him. Eventually, they found him in the reactor room, and he became a test subject, Fawkes, who later attempted to record another holotape in vain, throwing the machine in anger. At least, according to the GECK. --Vladimir Lem 02:00, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to call shennanigans on that claim unless you can produce the FormIDs of the notes to which you refer. --MadCat221 04:18, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Quest ID: AudioHolotapes. Editor IDs of the topics: MQ08SheltonTape01-MQ08SheltonTape05. It does appear that the tapes never appear in game, because no note labeled MQ08 refers to that note, but this seems to be the only information that refers to Fawkes' true identity. --Vladimir Lem 00:57, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

Where is he?

After completing the last quest before starting broken steel (the 2 weeks after thing) I went to underworld to see if fawkes was there but he wasnt! WHERE IS HE!?

Some people have found him wandering around the Citadel.Ripvanwinkle111 02:59, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

After completing Broken Steel...Fawkes will show up at the citidel and you can pick him up as a companion again....~Kerplowned

i have had the same problem after compleateing the broken steel dlc i went on to do rillys ragers but inside the hotel i had to tell fawkes as he could not get past a door but the later i got the messege that he had returned but he was not there? (iv looked in the citadel but he not there)

I had this problem. Try fast traveling to Jefferson Memorial. Outside, on the large, raised circular platform is where i found him. Getting up there is kind of a chore- you have to go on the catwalk with the yellow bars, jump atop of the barrels and onto the railing, and make your way across them until you can leap onto the circular platform.

can fawkes equip other weapons the you give to him
Yes; however, his default weapons' stats are much higher than most weapons you can give him. This makes it difficult to get him to use other weapons.--Ripvanwinkle111 04:03, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Fawkes in Little Lamplight

(PC, fully patched)Fawkes has difficulty entering Little Lamplight.

In my first instance it took me about 2 minuste to get him out the first time, I guided his direction along the length of the steel gate of Little Lamplight (a pain, if you have a line of follower).

The Pitt bug?

I played through the mission wherein you retrieved the G.E.C.K. from Vault 87. I was playing as an evil character, so I did it myself and then killed Fawkes using the option on the terminal outside his room (Terminate Test Subject or something like that.) Flames shot out of the walls and Fawkes died (netting me negative karma in the process). I then went to the Pitt, and as soon as I got there, a message popped up that said that Fawkes had returned to the Museum of History (where he goes when you usually dismiss him). Upon returning to the Capital Wasteland, I traveled to the Museum of History and sure enough, there was Fawkes' corpse lying in the middle.

(on Xbox 360) If you attack Fawkes enough for him to become hostile you can make him revert back to being friendly by using a stealth boy and hiding out of sight or even just using the stealth boy right in front of him.--213.104.213.137 00:04, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Remove "Fawkes cannot jump" note.

NPCs cannot jump. Period. There is no reason to have a note that says this on a character page. 70.190.158.11 19:34, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

Bug fix for Jefferson Memorial issue

I dismissed Fawkes before finishing the game. I then found him on top of the Memorial. You cant get up to talk to him. I shot him in the head about 3 times with the 44. When he started firing back I went in the memorial. The people with books were running scared. After a few minutes everyone inside calmed down. I went back out side and Fawkes was not longer red and he was off the memorial (360)

does fawkes randomly kill people?

when he says something about his instinct pulling him away, does this relate to anything? i went to the nuka cola challenge lady and after handing her 3 quantums fawkes wacked out his gatling laser and mowed her down in two shots. I also encoutered this in rivet city with pinkerton, and after him remodelling my face fawkes shot him, why does fawkes randomly do this? and is pinkerton that key? i already completed the replicated man and the wasteland survival guide, im also happy with the way my character looks, is there anything else i need him for?

No Fawkes after Raven Rock?

I'm having a pretty bad bug. I just finished The American Dream, got outside of Raven Rock... and there was no Fawkes to be found. He is not around the Citadel either and I'm kind of hostile in the Underworld, after shooting Mr. Crowley. Any clue where he is or if it's a bug?

I encountered this bug as well. After escaping Raven Rock he never showed up. Used the moveto command in the console and found him standing a short ways off from the entrance to Raven Rock, with no weapon. He's pretty much useless now since he won't use most weapons, and I can't give him his gattling laser.

Fawkes invicible 360?

I had fawkes as a follower at level 26 only broken steel installed. In megaton (undestroyed) he took 20+ vats mini nukes via fatman.

My Fawkes is invincible. I tried to kill him because I was bored and health just wouldn't deplete, this is actually very useful as I just let him fight most of the time to conserve my health and ammo but for some reason he never had the super sledge in his inventory. Has anyone else had this?

I too have had this at level 29 I got two of his health bars, level 30 I cant get one even after 30 min of play and 100 stims. also no super sledge at any point.

I thought fawks just had a normal sledg hammer but when i told him to switch to melee he just used his fist.--Radraider 21:00, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

I just picked up Broken Steel for the PS3. I made it to level 21, and then decided to test my followers, Dogmeat and Fawkes. I started with Jack, which took out Dogmeat in a matter of seconds, before he could even launch an attack. Feeling pretty cocky, I took Jack to Fawkes. After ~15 seconds of whiring blades of death, Fawkes had only lost 2 bars off of his health. Thinking this was a weakness in the weapon and Dogmeat, and having been killed by Fawkes, I decided to even the score with the Experimental MIRV. I shot him at pointblank range in a small room using VATS to target his head; he lost two bars of health. While this should mean that it is technically possible to kill him, practically Fawkes is invincible; I cannot fathom the creature that could stand against him in a fight. Keemonto 02:36, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

So he is still invincible on PS3? Does Bethesda even give a shit about these glitches anymore? Surely they must have stumbled across them on some forms or something, I know this site pops up as the 1st result in google for many fallout 3 related terms. 68.192.9.90 02:18, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

Further testing has shown that, even at level 30, it is indeed possible to kill Fawkes, though it is very difficult. At level 30, with 100% in Big Weapons, Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Energy Weapons, and Small Weapons, and with Finesse, 10 Luck, Snide Guru, Iron Fist Rank 3, Ninja, Pyromaniac, Better Criticals, Bloody Mess, and 10 Strength, I managed to kill Fawkes with three shots of the Experimental MIRV, attacking him with Jack until it broke, attacking him with the Terrible Shotgun until it broke, attacking him with the Firelance until it broke, and then slashing at him with the Deathclaw Gauntlet until it was down to ~50% condition; all weapons began at 100% condition. In addition, it cost me ~100 stimpacks and broke my armor, even though I dodged most of his fire by pinning him in a corner and standing as close as possible (post MIRV shots). I think it's safe to say that he's tough, though not actually invincible. Keemonto 21:31, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

I did an interesting test on fawks once at level 15. I brought him to the top of a satcom array Told him to wait, And laid all bottle cap, frag, plasma, and pulse mine I had in my inventory at his feet. (witch added up to about 30-40) I then tossed a plazma grenade on the mines. This made the equivilent of A meteor strikeing him. Only took half his helth and blew him back a few feet. Since I tecnicly only hit him once he was still friendly so I wasted the most of my grenades on him in vats and when the smoke setteld... no more fawks! after about 3 secondes the mesage poped up and i looked of the sattelite and saw his boddy roleing down a hill. It turns out i did about 75% of the damage and the fall from the dish did the rest. So there you have it! Fawks can be killed, at least on level 15 that is.--Radraider 20:47, October 3, 2009 (UTC) After observing where the HIGH WATER TROUSERS nukes fall from orbit from the top of the SAT DISH I stationed Fawkes at an exact location of a stike and hit him with one of the HWT nukes. It moved him a few feet but he did not show any health bars lost.In a fight and using a Gatling Laser, Fawkes against 3 Albino Rad scorps at once shows no observable loss of health .I use the Vengeance Gat laser at damage 255 and the Chinese Stealth Armour. Level 30 360.

The easiest way to kill him I found is to get a critical shot with a gauss rifle of a victory rifle then crouch and reverse pickpocket a grenage onto him, killed him instantly but when I try to attack him normally his health just will not deplete 1 bit and he never had his super sledge in his inventory in the 1st place :S--195.93.21.72 13:26, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Ok Fawkes is not invincible but he is weirdly and insanely durable for some reason (which is a good thing to be honest)it took me the Firelance until it broke (BD: 156) several hundred rounds from the Destabilizer (BD: 198) and a couple hundred rounds from Vengeance (BD: 336)and maybe a tiny little bit of help from some Megaton citizens.

The reason is because Fawkes is categorized as a creature. This causes him to level up multiplicatively with the player. In other words, by the time you're level 30 Fawkes has 30 times as much health as he was "supposed" to have. Dogmeat in Broken Steel has this same problem. They become all but invincible and remove much of the challenge (and thus fun) from the game.--Ocdscale 18:21, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

3 INT and 5 CH? Really?

The only articulate super mutant (minus Uncle Leo) has an intelligence of 3? And 5 charisma? Does Fawkes look charismatic to you??? 68.192.9.90

Yes,he does have an INT of 3 and a CHA of 5.Deal with it. The Daddy Banhammer.gif 13:17, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

That is disappointing, since in the Fallout universe Having an INT of 3 or below essentially is what makes one mentally retarded. Fawkes is no retard, in fact, he appears more intelligent then most humans.--216.220.115.175 23:51, October 8, 2009 (UTC)

unconfirmed bugs

  • If the player does not release Fawkes from Isolation Room 05 and retrieves the G.E.C.K. on his/her own, Fawkes will still be in that cell if the player ever decides to return. Later, if you talk to Fawkes through the intercom, it will cause a dialogue conversation that was meant to happen when you escaped Raven Rock. Despite being locked up (and in fact, even if you insulted him pledged not to release him), he thanks you for rescuing him and, the player's karma permitting, Fawkes can glitch out of the cell and then follow you normally through the course of the game. This is handy for players who couldn't find a way to release Fawkes to begin with. However, in some cases Fawkes will not be carrying a Gatling laser, and will use only a super sledge in combat.
  • During the Vault 87 encounter, if you take Fawkes' Super Sledge from him, he will continue to hold his hands as if holding an invisible sledge. He will also stop heading towards the G.E.C.K., instead standing in place. (Observed on PC, although with numerous addons)
  • It is also possible that in Vault 87, if you do not release Fawkes and get the G.E.C.K. yourself but open the doors as Fawkes instructs that after completing the main storyline (And having the Broken Steel DLC) that Fawkes can be seen in the Citadel walking around. If you speak to him he will act like he is following you but when you respond with "Let's go" he will continue to walk around aimlessly and not follow the player. (Happened with a "Very Evil" karma rating)
  • It is possible that even after rescue, Fawkes will remain in Vault 87 somewhere either outside Isolation Room 05, near the G.E.C.K. room, or somewhere in between, and not meet you outside Raven Rock. If you go back to the Vault and find Fawkes your dialog options will be the same as they are right outside Raven Rock.
  • If Fawkes is fired in the presence of Liberty Prime the robot will start attacking him and almost always kill him as Fawkes will fire back. He will apparently not respawn after words.
  • It is also possible for Fawkes to glitch outside of Raven Rock. If the player had a companion and they were not dismissed before being taken to Raven Rock, Fawkes will accept an invitation (Karma permitting) but remain rooted to the ground inside the Raven Rock gates.
NOTE: It is possible for him to glitch similarly outside of raven rock. He will be unarmed (as opposed to carrying a gatling laser) but will otherwise function as normal. Upon reaching the end of the normal campaign, however, he will not move into the airlock and you will not be able to activate the airlock controls, which will prevent you from proceeding to the Broken Steel DLC.
  • Fawkes may sometimes keep his Gatling Gun out, and just hold it in his hand, instead of putting it away after combat.
  • When you first meet Fawkes, he may have two copies of 'Fawkes' Super Sledge' for you to take (if you're feeling particularly greedy).
  • Sometimes when you are fighting something and Fawkes is shooting it and you walk through a door at the same time and then go back you will hear the gatling laser firing, but Fawkes will not be shooting.
  • The gatling laser floats at the side of Fawkes but will not be holding it (this is a common bug that can affect any NPC).
  • When you leave your Megaton House and go directly down the hill to the Megaton Clinic, Fawkes may sometimes get stuck at the bottom and when you try to push him out, or you leave him there for a few moments, he will become hostile or even die.
  • After being fired, Fawkes can be found at the Project Purity (just outside the force field) instead of the Museum of History (bad pathfinding?).
  • If Fawkes is fired right after entering the Jefferson Memorial during Take It Back!, he might appear standing on top of the entrance and will be unable to re-hire. (Possibly occurs if Broken Steel is installed)

xbxo360 possible bug: 2 followers

(in this case, Charon and Fawkes)

  • Not sure which DLCs you may/ may not need. When I went through vault 87, I had no DLCs, and at the time I got 2 followers, I had Broken Steel, and Operation Anchorage.
  • Have Charon as a follower when you go through Vault 87, and instead of freeing Fawkes, take a few Rad-X and get the GECK yourself. Charon is unaffected by Radiation, as he is a ghoul.
  • After I finished all the DLCs listed above, I returned to Room 05 and talked to him. He had the same dialogue as if I had freed him, and the option to get him as a follower was given.
  • He ignores the fact that Charon was already with me and followed me.

Fawkes Stuck in Raven Rock

When i fast travel to the raven rock with Fawkes after starting Broken Steel, we respawn to the front of the collapsed building i was in front of the rocks but Fawkes was under some grating on the left wher i was standing, he get out of there by himself allmost immediately and start fireing 2 enclave soldiers who didn't attack us just go hide. After i killed those two cowards Fawkes was running toward a fence and didn't stop running. Well i think that it was just a little bug but when i go and speak with him, he speaked with me like normaly but when i stop speaking (saying lets go and not stay here)and start moving he dont follow, just stands there with hes gun holding down. Disable, enable dont work killin resurecting dont work, fast traveling wont work, same with quiq saving and loading, leaving there coming back, fireing him dont work, change place and console moveto player dont work, so what i am gouing to do?

by: Räisänen

often fawkes just randomly runs away. plz explain

p

Really surprised this hasn't been noted...

Edited, should have checked archives

I Reverse pick pocketed perfect condition hellfire armor and gatling lasers onto everyody in that first area of the citadel so thats about 14 brotherhood members. I then equiped a Jericho, clover, butch, cross, charon, and sticky with the best equipment in the game, and then there is dog meat and the robot, so thats about 20 ish allies. I then brought fawkes there, fired him, and then attacked him, making all my followers and the citadel hostile towards fawkes. It was definitely quite the light show when everybody blasted him at ounce. however, to my surprise fawkes killed them all, even while I was unloading everything I had into his head while he was fighting them. He didn't atack me because I used a stealth boy after he went hostile. fawkes is the most broken uneven character in the game.

With BS, he has 500 health per level rather than 500 health total (dev error) so he is so goddam hard to kill 68.192.9.90 01:31, November 12, 2009 (UTC)
