*I seem to have my partners holding their weapons as if it were stapled to their hands and posed as if they were unarmed whenever they exit/enter a new cell. sometimes it corrects itself, but in a fix I sometimes find that disable/enable trick works well. Although I am running mods on my computer, I've disabled the likely canidates (Community Gear Compliation mod and F03 Phalanx) and it still does this. plus this was never a problem before the 1.1 patch so it has to be the patch. --[[User:Rylasasin2008|Rylasasin2008]] 06:22, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

*Confirmed on XBox 360 with Charon. Sydney used to do this routinely, but now it's fairly regular to turn around and see Charon standing there wih a a shot gun dangling a few inches from his hand.

*I had started a new game and went to do the Mothership Zeta dlc and as I was being pulled up into the ship my x button stuck and once in the ship it froze but I was still alowd to pause so I loaded it and now it does that every time I try the dlc and my pip boy now glows a bright blueish white. (the color it glows as you are abducted.)

::::::I think it must be semi-automatic weapons only, as I have many of the same Perks, and regularly get 95% head on Raiders at more than 50m with Lincoln's Repeater. I tried your test with almost all of the weapons I had on hand (10mm, .32, Chinese Pistols, Hunting Rifle, Shotgun), and got 95% with all, but usuall 74%, sometimes 67% with SMG, and usually in the mid to high 80% range or so with all the Assault Rifles, including Xuanlong (83% to 88% with all of them, changing as he gestured during his sermon). As far as sneaking goes, I actually thought they tweaked it to make it easier, as I'm getting much closer routinely in bright light that I ever remember (or maybe I'm just getting luckier). I have however noticed more crashes on zone change and more frame skipping/jitter in the video, but both are relatively rare still and only after a full play session. Oh, and I forgot to add, I'm on the 360, so it's not the platform, it's specific weapon subtype: semi-automatic firing. ::::::Ok, I just tried the test with the Gatling Laser and Minigun, and it seems the Laser has no trouble getting 95%, but the Minigun is even lower than the SMG (but barely). I had an additional thought, though. Maybe it's not a change in the actual effectiveness of V.A.T.S., but a change in what the percentage means. With a single round, the percentage is always clear, but with multiple rounds perhaps before the patch the percentage reflected the chance that at least one round would hit, and after it reflects the chance that ''all rounds'' will hit. This would explain Assault rifles with 3 rounds being lower than one round guns, and the SMG with 4 rounds would be lower still (still should by raw math be about 81% for .95^4), and the Minigun with 8 rounds suffers most of all. Leaving out the Gatling seems to be an error, and the math isn't perfect, but it is possible that you're just getting a more honest percentage that you'll do max damage, without them changing what actually happens in combat. Which reminds me of the thing that allways makes me mad in V.A.T.S., queueing up 5 shots after seeing a 95% hit chance, then seeing all you bullets hit an obstruction like a railing in slow motion with no way to stop it. In essence V.A.T.S. lies in that case by ignoring the obstruction; maybe earlier V.A.T.S. was misleading you into thinking you were doing a full 4 shots damage, when you really weren't. As I said before, without Concentrated Fire, I can only get a max 94% for limbs and 89% for head in point blank distance with sniper rifle or Lincoln's repeater. Fallout has to be like that because of the Germans. The EU versions of the old fallouts had the kids invisible (so you couldnt kill them) for this reason. Its the law.

The worst offender is the first one. Since right and left strafe (as mapped by the user) are used to cycle targets in VATS, but E is also used to accept and exit VATS, if (as in my case) E happens to be one of your strafing keys, you can't cycle targets in that direction, and have to resort to either clicking or cycling the opposite direction.

It seems like a pretty big oversight (read: "consolititis") to mix remappable and non-remappable keys, particularly in the same interface mode. They seem to have realised this and "fixed" it in patch 1.1, but as of patch 1.6, their fix is either nonexistant or hidden away somewhere. I'm the first to have this problem. I've checked on a second profile now, and the same thing has happened

(360) Follower Exploit

I have the Brotherhood Pally as a follower and tried to get Charon using the guide on the followers page but it failed and told me "You can only have one follower".

PC patching problem

This had to be, by far, the worst patching experience I have ever encountered in all my years of playing PC games. At first, I tried letting the game update itself, but the updater kept freezing, and when it finally did finish, the game closed and nothing else happened. I then downloaded the patch from Bethesda's website to apply it manually. After the patch finished downloading, I tried to run it. I kept getting the error "this patch is not compatible with the current version." I tried downloading the other versions they had, but I kept getting this same error. It's probably because the game thought it was already updated from the auto updater.

I decided to give the auto updater one more chance, so I started up the game and let it patch. Again, after the patch was done the game shut down and nothing happened. Usually the best way to fix something like this is to restart your computer, so I did. I ran the auto updater again, and this time it worked. I forgot to save my modified .ini file, and of course the patch over-wrote it, so now my game crashes every 10 minutes again. --MadDawg2552 16:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)


Must be something wrong with your PC, update went smoothly for me, and I've never had any crashes except for that crash on exit problem and the rare ALchemy lock-up. I AM having a different problem though. My hit percentages in V.A.T.S. have gone down. I have Sniper, Commando, and Wired Reflexes, and was getting 95% on headshots before the patch. Now I get 71% on headshots. I'm guessing either they tweaked it or maybe the new version does not like my save file. Guess I'll work on a nice build and start over, lol. I had an issue with standalone updater crashing, 2nd attempt went somewhat smoothly. I had no issues prior to the patch, now I've experienced numerous freezes (tabbing out/in from Fallout, or just trying to start the game itself, all this worked fine pre-patch) and a few crashes (especially mid-combat) after 1.1 patch. Looking at Beth forums, the alt-tab issue the patch causes is relatively common problem, also, many others whose game ran technically fine prior to the update now suffer from CTDs and other problems, including memory leaks and VATS sluggishness. --71.17.208.155 09:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

PS3 Patch Question

The method that the main article gives on fixing the patch, does that fix all the problems, or just the inability to use a save from before the patch was installed? I guess it wouldn't return items that the game had randomly deleted from your inventory, too? I really want Ol' Painless back.

Another question I have is that I thought Bethesda wasn't going to do anything for online add-ons to the PS3. Is that just going to be for the expansions and the patches are an acception?

Glitches

Has anyone found that their 360 game has more glitches than before it was patched? Now in my game, everyone holds the sub-machinegun upside down, there are black geometric shapes in the sky, once to the point where I couldn't see anything, and it will occasionally freeze up.   • I can. The method I use for testing "1.1 patch make VATS harder":
  1. Test character: with all SPECIAL 10, all skills 100%, and all VATS related perks (Gunslinger, Commando, Sniper, Weired Reflaxes, and Concentrated Fire).
  2. Place: The Brass Lantern (outside) in Megaton.
  3. First sit on the stool then get off. Type "tai" in console to toggle AI off, so that NPCs will stand still to minimize the effect on VATS.
  4. Stand still and take off my gun to use Confessor Cromwell as VATS target. Check the hit percentage of body parts.
Before 1.1 patch, even with 10mm SMG (min. spread 1.5. Since my skills are high enough to make the gun spread formula only take min spread value into VATS calculation), I can still score approximately 90% for Cromwell's head. But now with 1.1 patch, even in point blank distance with 0 min spread weapons, the highest hit percentage of human target is 89% for head and 94% for other body parts. Unless with Concentrated Fire you can get hit percentage up to 95%.

Also, the effect of spread value to VATS is more seriously. In the example above, now I can only score about 67% for Cromwell's right leg with 1.5 min spread guns (SMG & assault rifles), before I can score 95% with no problem.

About the sneaking, sorry I don't have a systematical test method, but from my experience of new round of game, I can tell that enemies now have much better detection ability. Even they only have 5 or 6 PE in low brightness building, like those Chinese Remnants in Mama Dolce's, they can still easily detect my sneaking movement (with the "cheating" character mentioned above). Before 1.1 patch, I can sneak up to the back of raiders during bright day. Now it's almost impossible to reach their back in short distance unless I use stealth boy. Plus it's also much harder to stay undetected when you try to sneak attack multiple enemies without using silent weapons, they now have better hearing too.

I think Bethesda nerfed VATS for game balance (before high to-hit % with Grim Reaper's Sprint it's almost like I turn on the god mode), but IMHO with making sneaking much harder now it's just like to force the "thief" type character to go into real-time FPS gunfights (because with much lower VATS hit chance, your AP can be easily used up and the opponent is still alive).
