Breed? Edit

Looks like a German Shepard to me. Anyone else have a different breed in mind? DRAEVAN13 15:47, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

Yup, definitely German Shepard/Alsatian. 18:56, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

Agreed, German Shepard (Digital21 (talk) 19:00, June 3, 2015 (UTC))

Dogs in FO4 or The Dog in the trailer? Edit

Is this article going to be about the player's companion or just dogs in general? --1337Anon (talk) 21:30, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

The Creature in general I believe. IF/When the dog has a name it will get its own page Agent c (talk) 21:32, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

Agreed. Just wanted to clear that up before editing away, thanks. --1337Anon (talk) 21:35, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

Is it a possibility that this page would be merged with the existing page about dogs from other fallout series and just add on to it as more is found out. Also Currently I feel that the information it describes is useless and rather see concrete information like what is occurring when it is seen in trailer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs). Confirmed as "Dogmeat" Edit

From Bethesda's Twitter: DRAEVAN13 14:31, June 15, 2015 (UTC)

it's not dogmeat though because he's a german shepherd and dog meat was a blue heeler, Aswell when you first encounter the dog he does not have a name, maybe and this isn't to big of a long shot considering what we have seen of the game so far, you can name the dog whatever you want.--Corporal grif (talk) 12:59, June 16, 2015 (UTC)

In the Show More text for this E3 video, Todd Howard Talks Fallout 4 Details of an (private/radio?) interview with Todd Howard, Howard is quoted as saying At first, he is just called dog but later on, you meet someone who tells you his name. This would explain why, in the initial stages he is labelled as Dog but why Todd Howard/ Bethesda have referred to the dog as Dogmeat specifically on several occasions now.

As the poster speculation perhaps it infers some contact with someone who knew one of the previous protagonists and Dogmeat companions.

Given that there were dogs called Dogmeat in more than one game already, this seems to be an appropriate name choice for the dog companion in Fallout 4 too. Suggest that reference to this dog companion is moved to the Dogmeat (Fallout) page for Fallout 4. Lunamoonraker (talk) 15:41, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

Hard to say, but it was seen, briefly, in the video, that they named it as Dogmeat. ☢ Energy X ☣ 15:58, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

well i'm just letting you know right now that this is not dog meat from any of the previous games because those were all blue heelers, this is a german shepherd and from what it looks its a pure bread german shepherd.--Corporal grif (talk) 17:23, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

In that I agree. This must be his cousin or something. ☢ Energy X ☣ 18:38, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

Junkyard dog Edit

Added details for this dog obtained via a random encounter. [Here] is a screenshot showing the 5 Defense stat buff to the designated settlement (sufficient to fufill the Sanctuary Hills settlement quest defense requirements on its' own) and confirmation of the name. More details on page.

guard dog Edit

not sure if my translation is proper or if it's watchdog in English, BUT I somehow stumbled on a guard dog (Rottweiler skin) at my red rocket close to sanctuary, that's not targetable/commandable in settlement-mode, has relatively low health in "Q" (vats) and is behaving strange in regards, that he rises to his hind legs supporting itself on the wall right at the service hatch. any clues? sometimes it just roams some meters below the roof of the red rocket station but would not roam away. AND moreover, I already have a dog assigned to red rocket, that is peacefully sleeping within its hut at the back of the station.

I also have a guard dog at my Starlight Drive In. I think it gets left there by the Minutemen, as 2 of them show up every now and then, and I don't remember seeing the dog before they first arrived. I think this variant should be added to the page. -- 22:27, December 11, 2015 (UTC)

There is a guy named Evan O'Dood who owns 3 named dogs - west of Neponset park on the overpass, the dogs are called Allisa (rottweiler skin), Kate and Kyle (both normal brown mutts). The dogs were still alive and hostile when I found them, but the owner was dead.

Dog versus mongrel Edit

The game data race for the dogs/mongrels is ViciousDogRace or RaiderDogRace (Dogmeat is special and has his own race). They will drop mongrel dog meat upon death (Dogmeat would do that too). So what is the criterium to describe their race? --Alfwyn (talk) 14:15, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
