Ok, this game has everything ive ever wanted! I have a feeling this will be the best fallout yet.--Radiated Raider 20:53, October 12, 2010 (UTC)
well obviously. Mary roc 18:16, October 14, 2010 (UTC) only a couple more days.
Cool, I wonder what it will be like in the game, time to go all leatherface on Caesar's legion!--Roflguy227 23:43, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

It appears that with the Jury Rigger perk, I can repair a chainsaw with any melee weapon. Pool cues into chainsaws!
Really? So far I can't use machetes, cleavers or knives, but I can use shovels. Are only larger melee weapons accepted?--220.127.116.11 15:47, November 29, 2010 (UTC)
A game that has a chainsaw and random encounters? Yet no Leatherface! Why the hell not?18.104.22.168 09:43, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Probably because it would be too obvious. Then again, I'd like to see a skinny guy with spiky, bright-colored hair, clad in bright purple and wielding the Bumper Sword :).--22.214.171.124 03:54, November 28, 2010 (UTC)
I suppose this applies to several melee weapons, but to get the special moves in VATS, do you have to meet the weapon's skill requirement? My melee is way too low, and i've gotten all the books, so I won't be able to meet it until possibly after Dead Money makes it to Ps3. Or, do you have to have a minimum skill of 50, like with the unarmed moves?--126.96.36.199 10:20, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
- You just need 50 skill, either permanently or temporarily (Buffout, magazine, Motor-Runner's helmet, etc). My courier isn't focused in melee weapons (beyond taking purifier, entomologist, psycho, etc and investing 50 points in it with a strength of 9 with remnants power armor and chems) and can kill giant radscorpions, deathclaws, etc in one V.A.T.S. special move. Mictlantecuhtli 12:52, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
Was this weapon really necessary? Because the ripper is already in the game, so I dont see the point in putting another chainsaw in.
- The chainsaw is more useful outside of V.A.T.S. than the ripper. Mictlantecuhtli 09:09, December 5, 2010 (UTC)
I personally found the ripper to be extremely lackluster and boring, it always left me wanting for a proper chainsaw.188.8.131.52 13:27, December 6, 2010 (UTC)
- They should have added the small energy cell powered Ripper-brand Ripper to FNV, instead of JUST keeping this generic military crap. They could have added a little energy bar nearby the durability bar, and made it to where you needed to click the reload button to activate the weapons ability(could have done that with the Shishkebab with flamer fuel too).
- But, you use what you can make work for you, and you better do it damn well. Or you just accept crap being shoved down your throat, and a legionary shoving his machete down your throat, or a NCR ranger popping your eyeball out with a 5.56. 184.108.40.206 20:57, April 6, 2014 (UTC)
Chainsaw vs Thermic Lance
I am confused as the differnce of these two weapons (speaking in reference to the game mechanics). The chainsaw and the thermic lance are listed as having the same DMG/DPS and the both weigh 20.00lbs. As far as I can tell the only mechanics difference is the chainsaw requires a slightly lower melee skill but uses 5 more AP.
So does the difference boil down to more aesthetics?
This might just be old, but the Lance does 20 more damage and has a higher durability. It's basically an "upgraded" chainsaw (as far as stats).
Latest patch effects
Listed on the patch page, Crit damage up from 0 to 8 and Crit multiplier up from 0 to 1, and finally, V.A.T.S. damage mult down from 1.25 to 0.5. I'm not sure how to edit to reflect this since the crit damage seems to be less than the basic damage of the weapon? Will someone explain this to me. Also not sure if there's a place in the table for the VATS damage multiplier data. Great Mara 19:45, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
on J.E Sawyers formspiring he said that the picture was of a modded chainsaw, not a unique one, so do you want me to change it?
I was messing around with a chainsaw one day and i chainsawed a barrel and it flew back at me.... and unfortunately i had low health and i was killed. Is it just me or is it like that for everyone?
Not sure how old the note above is as it was unsigned, but just to add that weapons like the chainsaw, ripper etc can have effects like that on world objects, can be handy if you can aim them right if you want to kill people with no repurcussionsMrSuperHappy (talk) 17:25, September 28, 2015 (UTC)
