This talk page is only for discussing improvements to the page "Broken Steel."

Original game locations altered by the DLC[edit source]

Besides the current list of new locations, this page should also include a list of original game locations that have new content added by the DLC, such as Fort Bannister and Springvale. I'd add the list myself if the page wasn't locked to prevent editing.

Sarah Lyon[edit source]

I just watched the begining of Broken steel. What happend to Sarah. Elder Lyon said that she got sick to. But can someone who has the game give me a detailed raport on what who happend to Sarah.

Lyons tells you that there was some kind of energy spike when you activated the purifier (I went the good way) and that you were both rescued and brought back to the Citadel. He says that they didn't know if either of you would make it, but now they have hope for her to come out of it since you did. She's in the room with you, lying on a bed, and when you try to interact with her she is listed as unconscious. I've finished the first main quest and she has still not woken up. --Abbitha7 00:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

If you finished the main quest, you should have encountered her at Adams Air Force base (she tells you to get on board the copter right before the big event, then sticks around afterwords too).

Hank's Electrical Supply[edit source]

Under locations, can someone add "Hank's Electrical Supply". Its a new Area to enter in Jury Street Metro area. I edited the Jury Street Article to include it: [1]--AllTeam 19:36, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Surviving Past the End[edit source]

I'm very doubtful that they'll change anything before the activation of the purifier, as this would most like break saves that were done in the final stage, or the saves would break the scripting. Likely, all the DLC's "content" will begin after the player has passed out and replace the scripts that initiated the original ending(the new areas may show prior of course but be otherwise inaccessible until the "end"). I'm speaking from a point as I would think a programmer would do it, of course. I know FO3's scripting system tends to have issues operating mid-save so this would probably be the best method to do it to avoid game breaking bugs.

fubarmonkey 04:17, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I wish you didn't hve to side with the BoS, i hope that they'll include a BoS Outcast and Enclave route too. or maybe let you reunite the BoS and the outcasts?-- 23:14, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

According to the article Bethesda is going to CHANGE the ending. So there is no reason to discuss how the player would be able to survive the original self-sacrifice method. (Though Col. Autumn's method is a good candidate). --Clean Up 01:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know about you people, but has anyone considered the fact that something goes wrong with the purifier? I mean it wouldn't make sense for it to work, then most enemies will probably die off. maybe the enclave blows up the purifier out of desperation, and then u go after them, or they say it will take a long time for everything to go back to normal. But it's just speculation, i'm not trying to undermine other people's thoughts on this i'm just saying what would more believable for fallout. But if it does work I hope to see a little more color in the wasteland, and some new settlements.Septic101 20:49, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

  • I don't think so, think about what you just said. If they blow up the purifier, that means you were inside at the time meaning you die from the explosion 04:42, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
  • The purifier doesn't kill off mutants. The FEV virus caused those. Unless you used the modified FEV virus, then all the mutants are still going to be around. Just turning on the purifier will mean that water can now be used with no radiation penalty. But even then, you're assuming immediate effects. They could just say "The effects are ongoing".

Maybe u get away and go after them as revenge? i'm just saying. cause if the purifier works, then i would expect some enemies to die off, new settlements to arise, and some color to come to the capital wasteland. if that happens then Bethesda is gonna have to come up with a clever way to keep us entertained with new enemies and places, for it to make some sense. For example, a new enemy arises, like the commonwealth, could open up for the next DLC or Sequel. The Chinese begin to take over wasteland America, or hell u get to fight aliens.Septic101 15:53, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Maybe it's something like, PC wakes up and someone is like "Whoa, I don't know how you survived that much radiation! You are one lucky bastard!" Or something like that. Or maybe you just went comatose and it takes place later on.

"It is confirmed that the player character will still be the Lone Wanderer, even if the "sacrifice" option was taken at the end of Take it Back!." I've not read any confirmation that the player still can take the sacrifice option at the end, anyone have a source for that? If there isn't a source then I recommend that it be removed. UncannyGarlic 08:51, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm putting my money on Sarah Lyons automatically entering the control chamber with the players choice in the matter disabled. --Thq95 07:55, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

They're going to change the ending, so why does there have to be any radiation? For all we know, they might as well simply remove the radiation from the control room ... no mystery drug or miraculous survival necessary. If they don't simply remove the radiation, I agree with Thq95; Lyons or some other generic soldier will probably sacrfice him/herself with no player choice in the matter. --Sentinel 101 15:36, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
You could end up becoming a ghoul and thats how you survive the radation, then you could go on a mission to cure yourself - or not. anny 03:55, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
The purifier will probably not go radioactive at all. It seems to be the simplest solution, it was just an arbitrary "radiation ex machina" event to justify an 'ultimate endgame moral decision' anyways.

In many interviews they said that the PC would still have the same options but also to be able to send one of your radiation resistant followers in such as RL3, Charon, Fawkes possibly even clover with the whole "Love her Owner" thing. I don't see Jericho doing it, he'd say something like go F*** yourself.

THIS medicine.

I think the player will survive this way: after you insert the code, you fall down, after that, ÍF you killed Col. Autumn Sarah will run to his body, and take the little medicine Autumn used during The Waters of Life, which made him survive the radiaton, and insert it in you and pull you out of the purifier. And if the player left Autumn alive, he'll run into the purifier and pull your body out, inserting you with the medicine. After this, you'll survive. Else, if you choose that Sarah goes in, the player will do the same thing with the medicine. Also, I don't think the option to blow up the purifier will stay, ánd I think you can also send companions in. Tedjuh10 17:00, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

How 'bout sending the Colonel himself in after you told him out of attacking you? 17:13, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Mmm... Also possible, that he'll use The Medicine on himself... Yes... this is also highly possible Tedjuh10 17:54, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

The website "Gamesradar" have some new information, here's the link: They say you can send fawkes, charon or RL-3 in instead of you or sarah. Fat Man Spoon 18:02, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Didn't saw that before. But it's kinda' missing sources. And how about the people who have killed all companions? How will the game end for them (for the exception to let Sarah in). Tedjuh10 18:14, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
You can still enter the Control Room yourself, and you'll surivive. Please sign your comments. --Sentinel 101 18:06, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, forgot :). Anyway, I just posted my theory (Medicine thing), and I think thát will happen if you or Sarah will enter the controlroom, but that you can also send in companions. Tedjuh10 18:14, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree with the medicine thing, but will Karma affect anything at the end? Fat Man Spoon 18:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Mmm... Maybe a different ending movie. Tedjuh10 18:21, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Yea but stupid me decided to use a glitch fto kill autumn ahead of time due and his body already disapeared. unless it is a goo pile i cant remember.

He'll respawn automatically. Tedjuh10 - Didn't want to login

1.thanks but thats not the case 2.he wasnt there now that i downloaded it (wasnt a goo pile) 3. nope all u guyses are wrong it pulls one last TWO WEEKS LATER. lol good time good ttimes your guy is probably like

OMG NUUUU NOT AGAIN.... phew only two weeks

Join Ranks of Brotherhood of Steel[edit source]

its now clear that after activating the purifier you instead of dying, you wake up in the citadel 2 weeks later and discover that fighting continued after you passed out. now you will do some more official missions with the brotherhood and work up the ranks eventually to paladin? we'll find out!

I think that Bethesda will explain the characters survival somehow. Or maybe they will assume you didnt do it.

It would amuse me to no end if one of their Devs was sitting there, reading this page, going... -hmm, that's how we could do it, aha!- --Tisi 06:10, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I'll bet they just throw out general ideas, then just use whatever we deduce about them.Dragonjts

I don't think we get to play a new character, since they raise the lvl-cap (for the (probably) capped Lvl 20 Char activating the Purifier) .Kamuikaze

I'd honestly rather join the Outcasts, they have robots, cooler looking armour, and plus they only worry about the true goal of the Brotherhood instead of whining about how big bad mutants are hurting the poor, innocent little wastelanders. PlasmaFox 01:39, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, the Outcasts are cooler, but working for them would be boring. Their missions would be "Find advanced technology", whereas the CWBoS would actually have you fighting enclave. That being said, a DLC where you pick a side in a war between the Brotherhood and the Outcasts would be cool...

I wanna join the enclave..

I would really love to join the Enclave. I hope they give something like that for bad Karma players. I mean, a player who kills, steals, lies and cheats is suddenly offered a high place of honour in the Brotherhood?! In Lyon's Pride no less! Eden said: "If you are successful in our little mission, perhaps there is a place for you here in the Enclave." So I've got my hopes up, but somehow, I feel Bethesda won't let us join the Enclave. :< Five Dog 17:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

All I have to say is the clues in the name. Think about it

That doesn't mean much. It could mean you 'break' the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel as the Enclave or the Brotherhood is broken from the attack on the purifier and you need to help restore it. Who knows.....?

A note in the safe of Elder Lyons points out he is considering retirement and putting Sarah in charge so I believe if something may of happened to her... Hail Elder Vault Dweller!

And Eden says if you succeed in putting the FEV into project purity, you could exceed Colonel Autumn as his confidant. AKA Colonel Lone Wanderer!

The Enclave were studying creatures of the wasteland right. And there were all kinds of creatues in tanks at Raven rock, this could account for the high level mutants & ghouls. But if you destroyed Raven rock the remnant Enclave could have a new base. --Brandon.367 13:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Brandon.367

While I completely understand your point, wouldn't the increased level cap be wasted if a new playable character was introduced?--ASL93ratjar 23:40, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Since your now officialy joining the BoS I wonder if they cleared out a room for you in the Citadel, Because the Citadel is awsome and my house is kinda running out of shelfs and lockers to use... I need an armoury. And so comes to mind my warriors fortress in Oblivion, kick ass house, with just about everything, including of course a foom just FULL of beer wine and asorted drinks... good times.

Level cap[edit source]

Official word for the level cap is now given on fallout official website, that the level cap will be raised to 30 and new perks will be added also. One interesting one is called 'puppies' which will let dogmeat respawn if hes killed at any time as a puppie and will later after hopefully a short period of time become the same old dogmeat(he will respawn at vault 101). a good perk if dogmeat already died, and now you won't have to woory about losing him forever. Dogs rule! Shamrock28 05:33, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes. It was mentioned recently here, as well as in another previous interview/article.--Niksilp 07:51, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Release date[edit source]

IT will be released on may 5th 2009 for 800 microsoft points on xbox live, and games for windows! this is a good price for all the new content but bethesda was tempted to raise it up, but its only right to be for 800 because of the prior download mayhem of the pitt

Bethesda originally announced it for March but in the latest interview they said the DLCs will be 5-6 weeks apart, making the date for The Pitt early March and Broken Steel mid-April. // Porter21 U | T 20:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Its LATE April already! When is this thing coming out? I hope it's worth it.--ASL93ratjar 23:37, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

It'll be released May 5th for 800 MSFT Points. -- 01:32, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Join The Enclave[edit source]

Alright, I just want to make a list or check how many players would rather join the Enclave instead of the Brotherhood. Please place your signature below if you would rather join the Enclave.

I for one, would like to. - Five Dog 18:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Hell Yeah!

Yes, please. U-S-A! U-S-A! --Solbur 21:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Sounds kick ass for an evil character, be like Autumn

me too! RG (xbox)

I would, so I could destroy them from within, like I did in Paradise Falls. I mean come on, the Enclave killed my dad! I'm not letting that go! TunnelSnake 15:38, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

The Enclave didn't kill him. He killed himself in Project Purity's main chamber by venting in radiation. He could have co-operated and then they *MIGHT* have killed him, but really, he killed himself. - Five Dog 20:33, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it's pretty clear that he was a dead man if he cooperated. Have you ever cooperated with Colonel Autumn when he asks you for the code? You give him the code, and he kills you.

I routinely wipe out Lyons Pride Patrols out of sheer hatred so yes, I would side with the Enclave.

For the good " 'ol USA" as Nathen would say. Just kidding, the Enclave is corrupt.PitifulKnight99.135.162.165 03:17, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

The enclave thought for the good of humanity as a whole, like Outcasts and the original BoS. I would side with them 100%. I think a lot of the choices in this game aren't as clear as the karma system makes it out to be.

When I think good karma, I always think corruption, fascism, and genocide. Duncanxxxx 01:04, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Genocide based on race/religion/nationality, etc. = bad, no argument there. Genocide for the sake of preventing generations of further devolution of the human gene pool = difficult, but ultimately rational choice.
Genocide in any form is irrational. What would be the standards to define devolution of the gene pool? IQ, income class, undeveloped countries, etc. And would you really want to make the choice? What if you fell under the definition that described "devolution'? Genocide is never good.Kingclyde 21:05, 8 April 2009 (UTC)kingclyde
Don't forget that, upon the death of all "Tainted" humans, only the Enclave and BoS will remain, so in other words the only truly organized groups will be left. That has to count for something.
Yes, it means it is possible that the survivors will be even more genetically similar, thus further reducing the chances that humanity will survive. I won't even get into how crazy it is to try to use eugenics as a rationalization for genocide. Duncanxxxx 22:32, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
But Genocide in this case is absolutely necessary. The only way to re-unite the United States would be to get rid of the innumerable autonomous villages, raider camps, Super Mutants, etc. Only then can the country be re-united under one (Organized and technologically advanced) Government.
What good is uniting under a corrupt oppressive government? It'd be like uniting under communism, ultimately it will be overthrown by another government, just as happens in many 3rd world countries: One oppressive tyrant is overthrown by another.

The only way to restore America would be with a democratic government, and that's not going to happen with any of the powerful groups in the Fallout world. Humanity doesn't need genetic cleansing to survive, it needs things like Project Purity to reduce the radiation exposure and the super mutants wiped out so civilization has a chance to re-establish itself. That's all ignoring the fact that the America before 2077 in the FO world is not the one we know and love.

That's not necessarily true. The New California Republic has a democratic government. Furthermore the Brotherhood is headquartered in the town of Maxson, a state in the NCR. Granted, the Brotherhood seems to work independently of the NCR government but the fact that they operate inside NCR borders would suggest they are at least unofficially a partner in the state.

Didn't know that. But it still supports my main point that Enclave isn't what's best for restoring order, society, the American way and all that good shit.

I pwn noobs, civilians, enclave, or BoS. lol--ASL93ratjar 23:42, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm... Stay loyal to the Brotherhood and do the right thing, or join the Enclave and do the cool thing. Clear buildings with a rusty old 10mm SMG, or send in a kill team and raze the place to the ground. Constantly deal with those pesky Super Mutants and Deathclaws, or get killed by Liberty Prime. It's a tough choice. I pick Enclave! 18:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Way I see it: the Enclave are decended from the shadow government that so many consperacy theorists have been looking for all these years, they are responsible for sacrificing the lives of billions in hopes of eradicating communism in the great war (they then failed to leave the planet (for mars?)) before the war they may also have had say in the creation of the New Plaug, the Anexxation of Canada (my country) and disbanding of the United Nations. After the war they tried to kill nearly everyone on the west coast, failing that they moved to the east and are trying again. They cirtainly place no value on the "citizens" of the capital waistland or anywere elce, as their reactions with anyone non Enclave seems to always be hostile in some way; shooting on sight, making them slaves, capturing them for research, "reposesing" any useful technology from them under the athourity of a government that was erredicated 200 years ago. I would say kill them all, but not all of them are bad, some are just doing their jobs and some have simply never learned that non Enclave are not always evil and mutated - this can be seen in an enclave terminal from a soldier's audio log. So: kill the leaders and recondition the followers to not kill everyone elce

James (father) is alive?[edit source]

It is a possibility. Autumn was revived by that advanced radaway and he considered James a valuable scientific asset. A friend of mine told me he saw a leaked video of the player talking to sarah lyons but all she said was: "We found him. He's alive." and it is NOT the vault dweller.

Surely not. You can see autumn breathing into his jacket as he's being irradiated (using the radaway). James meanwhile does nothing, and you watch him die. Spending that much time in an irradiated tank without any treatment would, no doubt, own you (and kill you).-- 00:17, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Didn't autumn have an anti rad injection?

Maybe they rushed James and Col. Autumn back to Raven Rock, restored them then and then demanding informtion from James just like they did to you? But would he tell them? I mean James would be worth alot to restore him because of the information he knows about Project Purity and his body is gone in Take It Back! When the purifier is activated or not....

I bet, enclave turned him in to a uber-mutant ;).

Frank horrigan MK II perhaps? That would be AWESOMESAUCE! Werewolfhell 13:20, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I'd say the chance of James being alive is roughly a large number to a small number. What the game really needs is a liam neeson follower. Dragonjts 22:40, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I bet when Sarah Lyons says "We found him. He's alive." she actualy IS talking about the lone wanderer. Unless you have any evidence to suggest otherwise, im just going to assume that. It makes sense after all.--Greig91 19:10, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Why it might be called Broken Steel[edit source]

During the end of the game when the Brotherhood does an all out assualt on the Jefferson Memorial some Enclave went to the Cidetal and drove the Brotherhood out. The Brotherhood have no one to turn to except the Outcast. The Brotherhood and Outcast make an unlikely alliance to drive the Enclave out of the Cidetal and Wasteland. Just my theory.I also believ you are able to join the Enclave. it would also be cool if they released a co-op DLC for the players that completely finished the game. Like I have completed every quest and Play on the save before Take it Back!. I have all the items from the Pitt and Anchorage. I want to show off all my stuff to people online. It would also be awesome to play co-op with people on Windows Live.PitifulKnight 21:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

What is it with all the stupid theories? Multiplayer in Fallout 3 would be impossible to implement. I mean, come ON.TunnelSnake 20:42, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Speaking of stupid theories, I wonder if the game will include the western main branch of the brotherhood of steel. The Outcasts at Fort Independence do clearly state that should the original brotherhood return contact with the D.C Brotherhood, Elder Lyons would be put in his place. Perhaps the game will include a Brotherhood of Steel civil war. The plot at the moment seems kind of weak; the Enclave where pretty much destroyed on vanilla Fallout- the remainder of the Enclave would probably take around 10 minutes of gameplay to crush. Bethesda will have to come up with something new and exciting to give this game more meaning.--Drifter 20:50, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

It states that you round up and destroy the enclave in the description, and this dlc has been announced to be as long as the Pitt and O;A, which were short, i think the entire time youll being dealing with the enclave, for an expansion that lasts roughly 4 hours if you dont rush through, they just couldnt include an multi-outcome quest dealing with the outcasts when the differences in them are so important to the atmosphere of the game in a dlc thats only 4 hours when your also dealing with whats left of the enclave, which could be alot of people, not all of em followed autumn to the purifier.

So I guess the Outcasts or possibly the western Brotherhood will have a major role in this DLC? And hey, none of us have good hard facts on what this DLC will have other than the Brotherhood and Enclave fighting each other and it will be part o fthe main quest. All we can do guess, right?PitifulKnight 03:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

They're adding 10 levels to the game, right? 10 out of 30 is 33%. They should add in enough game play to accommodate for this. It would make more sense. 01:55, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Not really, there's already enough content in the Vanilla game to accomodate that many levels. I know my character, at least, is still running around completing quests at max level. -- 15:16, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
This is just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if the main quest brought you back to Vault 87 at some point -- since the player does have a dialogue option with Elder Lyons to alert him about its role in creating the mutants. Remember the BoS only had two objectives when they arrived in DC: Acquire technology and investigate the Super Mutant sightings. Although, the presence of upgraded Ghouls and Super Mutants doesn't necessarily mean they will be tied into the main quest. They could simply "appear" in random places based on the player's level, the same way the current system works. As it is a level 20 player has a higher chance of running into Super Mutant Masters than a level 10. The trend will probably continue so that a level 30 player will be running into these upgraded enemies.

Maxed out[edit source]

I have all my skills maxed. I fear, that when this is released, I will be stuck in the level up screen, unable to progress... I ask you, people of the wasteland, what would happen?Jetholt (Jetty) 21:23, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it would be impossible to max out all your skills(tel me how) maybe they will add new skills or when you level up ot will skip this section. DO you use PC or 360PitifulKnight 21:25, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

The only way to max out all skills would be skill books.

All that would probably happen is you skip the skill improvement screen and go straight to perks, no way Bethesda would ignore that possibility and just let the game freeze. Also, my memory may be faulty, but I seem to recall an interview about Broken Steel where one of the devs said skills would be able to be increased above 100; just don't take my word for it. -- Commdor /{Talk} 00:09, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Sadly that patch broke vats

Now THAT is an off-topic comment if I've ever seen one. -- 09:46, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Co-op play would be cool i guess, but then you wouldn't be "the lone wanderer". you'd be "the lone duo". WOMP!--ASL93ratjar 23:45, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Personaly i think its called "Broken Steel" because the BOS and the Outcasts will have to unite in order to defeat the enclave, thats just my take on it. But like you said it could also mean joining the enclave. Your idea would make much more sense, and it would definitly be the best way to go. But i honestly don't think joining the enclave is going to be an option. I just really doubt Bethesda would put that much time into it.--Greig91 18:39, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

The Enclave and choosing the FEV Virus[edit source]

Wouldn't this make the whole point of fighting on the side of the BoS moot? I mean if you were to let Eden live and actually use the FEV Virus, wouldn't that mean most of the BoS at the Citadel (after all, they are mostly wasteland initiates) would die, along with every non-pure human? So it would essentially be the Lone Wanderer, The Enclave, Vault 101 Dwellers, Outcasts, and a few Citadel BoS running around?

Furthermore, I have a feeling the name of this has a double meaning to imply that you could side with the Enclave, thus making the name "Broken Steel" just that; that you destroy the Lyons Pride at the Citadel (hated them anyway.)

The lone Wanderer would die too from the FEV

Maybe,he was born OUTSIDE a vault in project purity, and its never specified if james or catherine are PURE humans.however, being in a vault for so long might have turned the LW pure..............Lets jsut wait and see what bethsoft say.........

Werewolfhell 13:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, coming to think of it, the Lone Wanderer WAS born outside a Vault, and James and Catherine AREN'T pure humans. Alex 0:12, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

So it'd be like this..........

Lw:eh ill eb safe from this (Inserts FEV virus into the water) Lw:im thirsty (Lone wanderer walks over to the water under the purifier, ignoring sarah lyons corpse and drinks the water) Lw:Hey this tastes funny

  • Dies*

Werewolfhell 15:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

That was the most retarded thing I've ever read, Werewolfhell. Abbitha7 00:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Ummm. No. Alex 21:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Well given you are tasked with delivering water to Megaton, I'd say the only people that would be immediately effected by the FEV are those who drink from the Potomac near Project Purity. So the only people that would really die from it would be Rivet City and any super mutants/ghouls in the immediate area. 16:46, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

Hey don't forget you can recive several mutations through the course of the game, the ones from survival guide, those and oasis so even if you were pure to start with you proabably aren't when you get to the purifier the second time. 08:51, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Can't wait to see this addon[edit source]

Damn, maybe there will be some stuff I expecting to see. 1. The good old enclave armor from F2. 2. Explanation on where the hell super mutants took their armors and weapons, who leading them and what happens to them after the visit to Vault 87. 3. A nice ending to the main quest which includes a boss fight... Hey, bethesda said that there will be new enemies, including ghouls and super mutants... does this mean the new quest will be somehow binded to them? Maybe, the purifier will be broken and will only lead to new mutations? Remember the cancelled FOBOS2 and Tactics 2? Maybe something is very wrong with the Geck and after it's implementation some unforseen consequences will unfold. Master Mold 17:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Bethesda isn't using other companies plans for games. FOBOS2 and Tactics 2 were developed by other companies and are not a canon for the Fallout 3.

is it me or are the developers a bit silent about this one? i mean, only a week after OP:A came out, the page for the pitt was filled with screenshots and info, but we don't even have proper info about what BS is going to give us.The great molerat. 12:46, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I noticed this as well. Maybe they're watching out before they leak anything out, due to the problems with The Pitt. Once information is released people will demand Broken Steel more, possibly causing them to rush and create something less than Fallout quality. --The Incendiary (talk) 02:59, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I just hope when finally the first shots and info will arise, there will be something to IMPRESS us and make as expect it even more. Another thought about the 3rd DLC: maybe they will bring back ("resurrect") The MASTER? :)

What're ya gonna say next, resurrect the orignal vault dweller as a final battle companion and make him invincible casuse of the radiation shit he has..................hey.............. Werewolfhell 13:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Why not?? The Dogmeet is already here! :) Just kidding... It was my long-time idea that the master could survive the cathedral blowing up... he is a goo, you know, so... anyway, we all know he is dead and won't appear in the Broken Steel. Master Mold 20:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

What about something like the cafe of broken dreams,or............A lost souls palace! everytime you kill a named character, you can go there if a random encounter happens, pay a fine and get that person back alive (Heck id be able to finish blood ties cause i sorta exterminated arefu and the family.......hehe oops) Werewolfhell 13:16, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

"Hunt down enclave supporters in the capital wasteland?"[edit source]

this dlc was argued at bethesda on what price on xbox live would be, but they are releasing it for the usual 800 mircosoft points. only fair because of all the mishap opn the first 2.

this caught my eye on the page, could it mean you have to kill people like nathan? HOT DAMN!!!!!

Heh, when I read that line the only thought that visited me was something like seeing tough Lone Wanderer talking to some children and telling them "Enclave is bad". What kind of supporters the Enclave could have other than their own members?Master Mold 20:53, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Nathan?Unless you fed him a bullet to the brains,oh wait,he must be a boss character, you cant shoot him in the brains................Oh an..............were fucked......were fucked Werewolfhell 10:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Well that means that the Lone Wanderer will have kill himself if he has chosen to use the FEV in order to get a position in the Enclave. Alex 16:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually its never said whether the lone wanderer does that to get a position in the enclave, only dialogue options are " Ok ill do it mr.president" or some shit,i dunno, also, who knows?Maybe the lone wanderer was genocidal (if he used the FEV virus) and wanted only "Pure humans" to live, but thats sound like a load of shit (like mikael grizzlys fallout 3 bitching.) Werewolfhell 13:14, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Eden said that the Lone Wanderer may get a position as his second in command (so instead of Colonel Autumn it will be Colonel Lone Wanderer I guess). It could be possible that he accepted it because he wanted a position in the Enclave. Besides, it doesn't sound like a laod of shit to me. The Lone Wanderer's personality won't be known until we hear of him from another perspective (possibly his memoirs in FO4). Basically we'll never know if he was good or bad. He could be described as a guy who was actually a Super Mutant fan, and never hurt any Super Mutant. Unlikely? Yes. Possible? Yes. Alex 16:20, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

If FO4 pulled a mass effect 2 and uploaded moral choices from fallout 3 into "Lone wanderers memoirs" mine would be:

"Ok memoirs............................Fuck you lot im going home.

Back Alive?[edit source]

I heard that the Lone Wanderer might be cloned or injected with the mysterious Rad-X medicine Ozzie 1 13:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Where did you hear that?George bush?A friend? Some arsehole on the internet?Until bethsoft confirms anything, believe nothing! Werewolfhell 13:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

You heard? From who, Aliens? Bigfoot? Wait, wait, it was that goddamn Lochness monster? I AIN'T GIVEN' HIM NO TRREEE FIDY!

But seriously, every troll on the net claims to know a developer or have an inside source when honestly leaks like that are about as rare a snow-thunderstorm. Sadly there are plenty of people stupid of enough to believe them, even in this the information age. So like the Werewolf said, until Bethsoft says something, believe nothing.Cavesloth 05:12, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

Mudkip will be in the next DLC...Or so i herd...Also, the Lone Wanderer grows some wings and turns out to be a hermaphrodite. Hessen 14:49, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Im guessing that was sarcasm......................... Werewolfhell 15:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

It all makes sense now... wings are how the LW fast-travels, being a hermaphrodite is how the story remains canon regardless of gender, and Mudkip... well, I'm not sure about that one. 18:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Release Date[edit source]

Wiki says late april/beginning of may, and links to an interview. IGN says Q3 2009, or 30. September 2009. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Any evidence on what IGN claims? -=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 08:03, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

They also said 01.01.09 for OA and 01.02.09 for Pitt and 01.03.09 for BS. I woulden't trust them. Gabriel77cortez 08:41, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
IGN said that or Bethesda said that? I don't want to trust them, but it's a shocker. -=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 16:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Bethesda first said that it would release DlC's in the first three months of 2009 (the dates Gabriel77cortez posted), but later they moved The Pitt to march and Broken Steel to April-May. Since it's nearly late April now, and we still don't know anything (release date, screenshot, ...) we might as well assume it's going to be May (if not later). --Sentinel 101 17:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Achievements!!![edit source]

Look at the picture at the achievements! I bet the new story will be about a new weapon (probably a tesla-thing or mind-controling), aquired or already had by the Enclave. What do you think?Master Mold 13:43, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

It could just mean a twist in the plotline, I wouldn't get to excited till they release pics. 17:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

They can be seen under the achievements list of the PC version at LeMans 20:39, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Release date is May 5th.

First Broken Steel screenshots[edit source]

I take it these new screens and yesterday's update mean Broken Steel's release is near. I'm thinking it might hit around May 5 or so. Anyway, the latest pics from Gamespot (the Bethesda site hasn't been updated as of this posting), featuring an unknown military base, some sinister-looking new power armor, and Liberty Prime's return:;thumb;1 -- Commdor /{Talk} 00:39, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Reminds me of 'Countdown'. PositronicSpleen 00:52, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
And a general note: I'll re-upload the new images with unmarked ones from the official site whenever Bethesda puts them out (don't wait on me though, I tend to procrastinate). The Gamespot logo ruins the aura of "Fallout-ness" and awesomicity. I wonder how GS got the images before anyone else anyway... -- Commdor /{Talk} 01:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Who knows, it's just great to finally have some news, even if it only comes with 3 screenshots. Interesting to hear about a new flamethrower, guess those who took that perk that ups your flame damage will love that. I like the fact that they are mentioning BS will affect the wasteland, instead of being just a separate map (even though apparently it's both). I'm also glad they took some serious consideration into the perks, I've already got max skill points, so anything with that would be worthless for me, and just about anybody since adding 10 levels would make easier than falling off a log to max out your skills. I'm also glad they are looking into harder enemies, instead of just more of the same. All in all it sounds like it'll be great.

Those PS3 fanboys over at Gamespot are vindictive bastards though, daaaaamn. 06:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

Death From Above[edit source]

The achievements lead me to believe you play as a brotherhood character. Probably a airborne thing, as Death from Above leads me to believe. --Cerebral plague 00:51, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

No, Bethesda is changing the ending of the game with Broken Steel so you will play as the Lone Wanderer --MaulYoda 01:37, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe, the Death from Above simply means a threat of Vertibird bombings... Master Mold 05:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Death from above might refer to Liberty Prime. The player may be able to take control of the robot and reak havoc across the wasteland in one of the missions--ponchmasta

New Power Armor[edit source]

Does anybody besides me think that the new power armour looks somewhat like a possible re-make of the Advanced Power Armor from Fallout 2? (dont look at the picture of the helmet, look at the sprite instead, especially the shoulders, and you might see it) CarlOnFire

The sprite yeah, but otherwise no

The Name has been given to the power armour now, so i MASSIVELY doubt that it will be now. CarlOnFire

Yeh, but we dont know what that name is yet do we? Although i agree, i dont think it is the MK II armour. It will be something totaly new no doubt..-- 00:57, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Now I think about it, probably wont be, as its supposed to be a better armour, and the MKI isnt going to be better then the MKII, oh well, find out tomorrow CarlOnFire

Broken Steel gameplay[edit source]

Someone on the fallout forums said that XPLAY is featuring gameplay from Broken Steel tomorrow 8:00 et now im not sure if this is true, but keep an eye out for any videos or stuff like that on tv and the internet if you have the time! 02:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Gah. Videos can either ruin the experience or add to the anticipation. If they do as well as the Pitt video, I'll be happy to watch it.--Ecksplisit 03:36, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

There probably will be some game footage and I'm pretty sure they mentioned that there was going to be an interview with Pete Hines. Mr. Sully 22:33, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

There was gameplay videos. Adam Sessler interviewed Todd Howard for it. He said you (the player) will work with the Brotherhood of Steel more directly to finish off the Enclave/ User:Cris773 6:38, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat reincarnation[edit source]

Will the dogmeat puppy be like this?

Gabriel77cortez 11:36, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I doubt it. It's probably going to be the same race as before, only a puppy instead of an adult. Alex 13:46, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Challenge[edit source]

I think the challenge of the addon isnt just gonna be the new enemies, but just imagine how hard it will be fighting tons of Enclave troops, I mean inside of Olney Powerworks, you might not have any teamates inside of the building, I fought a camp of Enclave soldiers in close combat with all of my new tech and I died two times even with Charon! Spoiler Alert!! STOP READING IF YOU HAVE NOT BEAT THE GAME YET!

Do you think you will lose your tech temporarily after you wake up from being asleep for two weeks? 18:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

No way. What purpose would it serve? In Operation: Anchorage, you couldn't use real-life weapons in a simulation, and in The Pitt, it wouldn't make sense for you to become a slave and still keep an arsenal capable of nuking the whole town. Here, you've merely been out cold for a while, but it's not like the Enclave recaptured you. Even if your weapons were taken for no reason, the Brotherhood couldn't plausibly prevent you from leaving and fast traveling to wherever the rest of your weapons are stashed. 22:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'm sure that Bethesda will find an answer. The weapons would have been blown and you somehow magically survived or something. Alex 13:48, 23 April 2009

I see no reason why you'd need to lose your gear anyway. Besides, it doesn't sound like your being kept in one area until you finish your job, as opposed to the pitt or anchorage. DragonJTS 18:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

I doubt you will lose your gear - Broken Steel will likely just have gear that will be vastly better than the 1 to 20 gear that you can get, so you will probably end up replacing it.

I personally hope the damn thing IS challenging - my level capped characters can easily kill large squads of Enclave troops (Thanks Grim Reapers Sprint!) so I need something worth fighting.

OOOOOHHHH trust me it will be tougher.....damn reavers

Altered Ending[edit source]

Any idea as to what, exactly, this is going to do to a save file that has Liberty Prime waiting outside of Project Purity already? Because I've played about 20 more hours since then and I'd hate to find out that I have to load a save BEFORE I activated Liberty Prime and done all of that crap.

So any idea how it's going to work when you download it?

Also noticed Broken Steel footage during today's X-Play special that had Liberty Prime in it, so they obviously didn't just scratch him from the story.

  • As long as you haven't gone into Project Purity, it should be fine. The DLC will upload into the game, with the only immediate changes being the raised level cap and possibly new, harder enemies if you're past level 18. You won't get to do the actual Broken Steel quests until you finally enter Purity and activate it; after the final cinematic and credits roll, you wake up two weeks later, ready to tackle the new quests. 21:03, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Do you have to play the ending again, before you start Broken Steel quest? That means that whole long drawn out fight again?

Who's leading the Enclave now?[edit source]

If both Eden and Autumn are dead when you activate the Purifier, I wonder who takes charge of what's left of the Enclave in Broken Steel? I'd think there would have to be someone, a general or whatever that Eden kept in reserve for just such an emergency. From the videos, the Enclave looks too organized to not have an interim leader, and there has to be some new boss or final bad guy to cap off the DLC, like Jingwei in Anchorage and Ashur or Wehrner in The Pitt. All speculation, but I don't want to fight a faceless Enclave army; I need an antagonistic figurehead to channel my righteous fury on. 23:57, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Also keep in mind President Eden can still be alive and kicking (figuratively) depending on how the player handles the encounter. If Eden survives and the player lets Autumn escape Project Purity we then have three potential Enclave leaders in play: Eden, Autumn, and whoever Autumn's replacement would be. I'm interested to see how Bethesda handles that. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it also possible for Raven Rock to not be destroyed? ~Unsigned 24 April 2009
Well yeah, I think there's a way you can just leave and there's no self-destruct, but you can't re-enter it. I think Raven Rock's old hat, and all of the Enclave retreated to Adams Air Force Base. Anyway, as in my file, if both Eden and Autumn are dead (or will be when I play through again), then who is left to keep things in order? Autumn, if spared, could conceivably return in the DLC, but that would push any new character out of the limelight; Eden is a stationary supercomputer and Raven Rock is locked out, so I don't see another face-to-face with him happening, unless Bethesda got extravagant and made him a remotely-controlled robot body or something. I think we've seen the last of those two, but Bethesda could surprise us (if the voice actors return). I really just want to see someone new. 02:00, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
President Eden takes over an innocent body of Liberty Prime... ouch... Well, I want to see a new bad guy too. Hope he will be more that "just human", maybe secretly a mutant. And hope he will be integrated into storyline not only by a character who say something like: "Oh, and one more thing, there is a one last commander of Enclave forces". Damn, I want boss battle. And hey, both Eden and Autumn, if survived, could be wiped out by this new Enclave leader... Master Mold 04:26, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
We've seen the President, and the Colonel is the leader of the Enclave Armed Forces. The only other thing that makes sense is... The Secret Service. There's no doubt that some of their personnel survived the defeat back in Fallout 2, and they would have likely gone with the Colonel when President Richardson died, if only to protect Eden. Therefore, I'm very sure we haven't seen the last of Frank Horrigan. Eden has files on every president, including Richardson. It's no stretch to say that he has files on the rest of the Enclave. And, Eden's personality is an amalgam of that of the previous presidents, so he likely has their memories on file. Upload Horrigan's personality into Liberty Prime's CPU, and you've got yourself a final boss. 18:55, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Good/Evil Choices?[edit source]

Any good DLC by Bethesda would allow you to have the decision to make either a good choice, or an evil choice (such as in the DLC The Pitt) What would be the good or evil choices in this? I have a feeling the "Evil" choice would be to let The Enclave live by allowing them to escape to some undisclosed location (why they are probably at Adams Air Force Base.)

1) First time i play this i'll do it on my good character. I've "killed" Eden and blown up Ravenrock, and i also plan to kill Autumn.

2) But for my second go at it, i have another character saved before entering Little Lamplight. So i've still to do all of the parts at Ravenrock e.t.c. that shape the games current ending. On this save im going to agree to help Eden, and also allow Autumn to live.

I can only hope they've figured out a way to account for both of these possibilities, otherwise anyone who has used "option two" are probably going to have their saves corrupted judging by the previous DLC. I hope im wrong about that though.--Greig91 18:33, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, in interview on XPlay Bethesda said something about different endings meaning different state of Wasteland, and progress of BS...we'll see soon. (Just thinking...if FEV was supposed to kill pretty much everything living, why would Scribe give us quest to give it to people at Megaton?...) --D4rkSh4d0w 20:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Clean water...uhm, around purifier[edit source]

Well, I hope Bethesda will actually do some parts of the water around Purifier clean aswell (0 rad when drinking)... It'd be stupid not to do so, but you know, lazy Game Developers... --D4rkSh4d0w 20:01, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm hoping to see some development with the water beggers. DragonJTS 17:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Good point about those beggars...atleast remove them from around the Purifier (the bridge to Rivet City for example). D4rkSh4d0w 18:51, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

This whole purifier thing is going to make the Lead Belly perk even more But i think the water around the purifier will be clean, its kinda the whole point. Also i read theres a sub quest where you need to clear the way so that purified water can reach megaton, so they have thought about it.--Greig91 18:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yea they said something about multiple deliver water type side quests, so the player will actually revisit some old zones or discover new...->more side quests he didn't done yet. D4rkSh4d0w 18:51, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

But what if you blew up Megaton? Would you just skip that and move on. My thoughts are maybe rewards for so many deliveries of fresh water, and missing Megaton, you might miss out on some gear. Although I don't want that to happen because I blew up Megaton....Remember theroies not facts, wont know until the 5th.

Perks?[edit source]

Are Nerves of Steel and Puppies! the only 2 perks for the expansion or the only two announced so far? Has this been mentioned in any interviews?

They are the only announced ones.. Why would there only be TWO when your getting 10 more levels..? //--Teh Krush 01:09, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe they changed it so you only get one perk every 5 levels?-- 02:43, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I seriously doubt it. Look at the Pitt. Before it was released, they announced 2 new weapons and no new armor (though 1 was shown in screenshots). We got several new weapons, and a bunch of new armor.

So I'd say they are just telling us about the two to get us excited, while leaving some for us to discover once we get it. 03:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

I'm hoping for a couple level 30 perks, now that the choice aspect of the level 20 perks is negated. DragonJTS 18:08, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind at all if those were the only new perks, it would just mean i could go back and get some of the good ones i missed out on before. If they do add new perks its just a bonus for me.

But i agree it would be cool to see some new ones for reaching level 30.-- 18:06, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

A few more would be nice, but honestly I'm probably going to use several of my levels after 20 to bump up my SPECIAL stats a bit higher. 18:33, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

Same here. After applying a mess of equipment bonuses some of my better specials have gotten pretty low. DragonJTS 18:38, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I can't see Nerves of Steel being all that useful if you have Grim Reaper's Sprint unless you're fighting extremely tough characters or creatures that take more than one session in VATS to kill. I guess it's useful if your total AP is low or your weapon uses a lot of it. If I hadn't killed Commander Jabsco on both my characters, I would wait to test it out on him :p. fubarmonkey 17:30, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Im going to use the new levels to get my last 3 Intense Training perks and bump my PER up to six so i can get the Better Criticals and Sniper perks. Then i'll be getting Puppies. That leaves me with four more perk slots, so if there aren't any new ones i'll just get some that i missed out on before reaching level 20.--Greig91 18:51, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Just use almost perfect if your desperate to get your special up high in one perk as it raises all skills below 9 to exactly nine, skills at 10 are unaffected Werewolfhell 16:15, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Confrontation[edit source]

Some sort of Enclave version of Liberty Prime that you need the Telsa Cannon for (called the "Vice President")? No idea... --Captain192 21:53, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Captain192

Hehehe, "Vice President"! That's some funny stuff. I can see it now...

Eden - And now my beautiful America, let's chat shall we? Let's talk about government shall we? Or more specifically, your government, dear America, the Enclave. Every President needs a successor or a right hand man, if you will. I have one, America. I give you... Vice President Prime!
"Vice President" Liberty Prime - Thank you Mr. President. Embrace Enclave rule or you will be terminated. The Brotherhood of Steel fails! Elder Lyons will fall! Embrace democracy, better democratic than problematic!
Eden - Very good, Prime. Very Good. So there you have it, my darling America. The Enclave is gaining in strength and America... is gaining in confidence. Till we meet again, this is President Eden - and our beloved Vice President Prime - signing off.

What about if you blew up Megaton?[edit source]

What I'm wondering is what choices evil characters will get as far as water delivery. I don't want my evil chick to have to be a delivery person. It's degrading. Also, she blew up Megaton, so who would be receiving it? Or what if you didn't so much blow up Megaton as just kill all of it's citizens (although it seems the generic Megaton Residents respawn even after you've killed all it's residents of note).

I think this quest just don't turn up for you. The game is...intelligent enough...I think... --D4rkSh4d0w 17:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm surprised they did not add a similar quest for Tenpenny Tower just in case you did blow up Megaton. It's... not really complete that way I believe. On the other hand, Megaton in involved in main quests, Tenpenny Tower is not. But still, doesnt feel right. --Radnus 15:08, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

finishing broken steel[edit source]

So what if you finish broken steel? Is it still possible to roam the Capital Wasteland with Project Purity activated or is the game going to end? Anyone have ideas? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fallout-dude 206 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I'd imagine so, since broken steel was partially made to address the complaint you couldn't explore after the ending. DragonJTS 11:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I think they already said they're removing ending and Broken Steel will not end the game. D4rkSh4d0w 11:40, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Conjecture on what will be accessible...[edit source]

...Before the purifier is activated. Granted, we would have to activate the final quest to "access all that Broken Steel has to offer", but what do you think will be available to us immedeately? Overlords, Reavers, and maybe the fabled Albino Scorpion, or maybe the Enclave camps backed by a Hellfire Trooper or two? Wanderer Lao 01:25, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Also, as a tangental question, doesnt anyone think that this DLC is cloming out somewhat soon? The Pitt was already released not too long ago, and though they say they've been working on Broken Steel for a while, they had ample time for The Pitt, and that came out not too well opening day. I don't want to take down anyone's hopes or anything, but we ARE talking about Bethesda...Wanderer Lao 01:32, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

It's coming out on the 5th if that is what you mean.. //--Teh Krush 01:44, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Are we talking about Bethesda? The Pitt DLC met my expectations, it was apparently Microsoft's fault for distributing the original corrupted version without checking it. The clean version of The Pitt turned out fine, completely glitch-free for me. I'm sure Broken Steel will also turn out well. -- Commdor /{Talk} 01:56, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Any idea if the confirmed new enemies are the only ones added with Broken Steel? I hope there's more than just some ghouls, muties, and scorpions. 15:46, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Ach, it's TunnelSnake, I can't sign in for some reason.

I'm sure there will be new raiders even though as you know they're all just named raiders.. I don't think we need a higher lvl deathclaw or a yao guai so what is there to add? Maybe a new Mirelurk or a mid-level buffed up molerat. My guess are that the Overlord, Reaver, Albino, Hellfire are about it. But I'm hoping on new versions on everything even a buffed up cockroach. 19:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

YEA, a radroach hopped up on buffout!

Lol, my ideas: Nukaroach, Jet-o-rat, Deathfingernail, Raider Beerbearer, Polar Yao Guai, Trihmin (3 headed brahmin), Super Mutant Overjerk, Enclave Buffout Trooper, etc D4rkSh4d0w 19:09, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

But im being seroius here, Buffroach or something like that, a radroach who got into a bottle of buffout and was permanently mutated, like it is a bit bigger, it is a bit green, and it's bites are stronger, feel free to improve if you want. 19:29, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Orbital strike imminent?[edit source]

During the trailer you can hear liberty prime (or some robotic thing) Say, Warning: Orbital strike imminent, though others might have came up with this theory already, i think "death from above" may involve the use of the B.O.M.B space station,(read through the van buren page) launching missiles against the brotherhood or capital wasteland. -- 02:05, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I thought of that as well MaulYoda

You've seen the Old Olney Radar dishes , maybe that's why the enclave controls them. To bomb the Brotherhood of steel

Maybe there trying to kill liberty prime because he's is too powerful but by the looks of the video it doesn't look like a normal missle.Mikill 12:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I think the vertibird in the video (I saw the cockpit, it was the shape of the cockpit on the outside of the vertibirds) I think after liberty prime tells you to get your ass out of there, you get in the vertibird to escape, but if you dont then the orbital strike comes down and kills you, giving you the achievment! 16:08, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

The 3:16 Vertibird to Olney Powerworks?[edit source]

Yes, the title's an attempt at humor. But watching the trailer again, it's clear you're transported somewhere on a Vertibird captured from the Enclave; I think the destination is Olney Powerworks. Here's my idea: the Capital Wasteland is essentially unchangeable. The devs can change small things with the DLC, like NPCs or creating "doorways" to new areas (like the Train Tunnel to The Pitt and that collapsed metro tunnel to the previously nonexistent Bailey's Crossroads on O:A). They can't however, add in large areas, since that would distort the original Wasteland and upset the suspension of disbelief (you don't walk over a patch of land one day and come back the next to find a skyscraper). Therefore, Olney Powerworks won't be just outside Old Olney, but rather north of it, far enough to be outside the map. To get there, you ride with a Brotherhood assault force on Vertibirds. Hopefully in a matter of hours someone can confirm or disprove this. Unfortunately for me, my brother purposely deleted my Fallout 3 files, so I have to start from scratch just to get to the new stuff. -- Commdor /{Talk} 01:57, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds like a pretty solid theory actualy, i guess we'll have to wait and see. Oh and kick your brothers arse for deleting your save games. I would never stand for that lol.-- 02:33, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Confidentially, I already went and messed with his GTA IV games. Revenge is sweet. And I forgot to mention, if the rest of my theory is correct, then it's also likely that Olney Powerworks is a one-time location; i.e. you visit it, beat it, leave, and can never go back. It makes sense if the Brotherhood only needs to raid it for Tesla Cannon parts, there would be no real reason to go back, and I doubt they would have a fueled-up Vertibird waiting in front of the Purifier just to shuttle you back and forth on a whim. -- Commdor /{Talk} 02:54, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Not to mention the fact that at one point in the trailer it appears as though liberty prime lands from a large fall, possibly after being flown out to olney powerworks, and dropped on site?

Perks[edit source]

Who else thinks the new perks kinda suck? //--TehK 11:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I read ya. Many are seriously ridiculous, and overpowered. Or otherwise useless, as they undo many limitations that otherwise make the game more challeging and fun. --Radnus 13:20 April 5 2009 CET (and BS PC download is corrupted at this moment)

The Karma ones are USELESS! And, the No Weaknesses is useless if you get Almost Perfect (which nobody will), and Nuclear Anomaly sounds kindof fun, aslong as the boom in kinda big and you don't die from it. //--TehK 11:22, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

The only ones that seem useful are puppies, nuclear anomaly and the rad reducing ones.. others are just..meh-- 12:30, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Overpowered? That word doesn't make sense in this context. What could possibly be overpowered about any of this garbage? The only perks that are even worth considering are Nerves of Steel, Almost Perfect, and maybe Rad Absorption. The others are next to worthless. PositronicSpleen 13:44, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Actually Nerves of Steel is useless since grim reapers sprint pretty much beats it. And Almost Perfect is just plain unfair, it completely breaks several other perks (Intense Training and No Weaknesses).-- 14:01, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Nerves of Steel is useful for things that can't be killed in one round of VATS or those wonderful times when the Mysterious Stranger shows up and kill steals.

Actually, I can't see that any of them are useless for everybody. Rather, many of them seem to be circumstance-specific. How does Almost Perfect "break" anything? You have to be LEVEL 30 to take it. You can take Intense Training at level 2. All this makes you do is decide how many perk slots you invest for early vs. late benefits. If you start using plasma rifles late in the game, does that make the Small Guns skill "broken?" The Karma ones are certainly not useless if you figure out how to use them properly. I can see them being very useful if you want to, say, nuke Megaton without having everybody think you're evil. Given the fact that the DLC has been out LESS THAN A DAY, maybe we should play around with them before passing judgement?

Only about 4 of them would serve any real purpose with a power gamer. The rest are things that would have been nice in the early level but serve no real purpose at this point in the game, or just flat out unnecessary. It really seems like they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with them.

They are completely useless. I spent a lot of time crack headin my character out so all his skills hit 100 and the SPECIAL were mostly at ten. Now i find out that they just threw you a perk so the 9 intense trainings i took became completly obsolete. I thought, "Hey I can just make a new character and recompensate so i dont waste so much on intense training." Thatd be fine if i hadnt put 70 hours into my current game. I feel lost.

What I'm wondering is if you use almost perfect and then wait to find all the SPECIAL bobbleheads, can you effectively max out all of them? I already collected all the bobbleheads so I'd feel jipped if they didn't count at all and all my skills just go to 9

The almost perfect perk reads "All main SPECIAL stats are raised to 9.". What are the main stats? Is it all of them, or just some? I'm starting over and saving the bobble heads for the end. Is this all for not?-- 01:30, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

wanna know what i think? i think that many people bought this game(i had) because it looks realistic and i also can go with plasma rifles(because its the future(AND IT LOOKS AWESOME!!)) but the perk ""nuclear atonamy"" is just plain fucking stupid because there is no ******* reason for it, it doesn't make sense, if you're low on health you'll explode without harming you with the power of a mini nuke? forget it(thats just like waking a perk were you have pshycic powers and you can control people and make there heads explodeHalfgod 19:23, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe you could be a superhero with that power, yea, ever think of that before writing this? Oh btw, the master from fallout 1 had psychic powers, which I think he could kill with.

so that is the game in the fallout 3 ultimately becoming a superhero? i thought it was about survival. and those perks don't have a logical reason, nuclear anomaly? whats the story just because you have a perk explains it all? and it doesn't even fit in the fallout genre(having superpowers (and its useless if you have followers and most enemies that can drop you're hp to that point arent melee) so chose your perks wisely Bethesda because: THIS IS SPARTA!!!!! Halfgod 17:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

The perks are pathetic. Almost Pefect makes several quests irrelevant (No reason to do those or big trouble in big town now since the stat increases don't matter) and is pretty weak for a level 30 perk - compared to Grim Reaper's it should be called "Almost Useless." Party Boy / Girl is useless (how often do you really use alcohol?), Puppies is useless (Dogmeat is extremely tough even at high levels - if he is dying, you shouldn't be bringing him with you), Nerves of Steel sucks (Grim Reaper's is better and you now get to choose 2 level 20 perks, so you can have both Grim Reaper's and Ninja if you want it), Nuclear Anomoly is retarded (at level 30 how many times are you really going to get dropped to 20 health? At that level your character should be functionally invincible). The Karma perks are beyond retar4ded because there are already ways to achieve what they do in the game without perks very easily (donate to the church to gain karma, kill / enslave people for karma loss). The ONLY, and i mean ONLY perk worth taking from Broken Steel is Quantum Chemist, and even that perk isn't all that great - it just lets you use more Nuka Grenades, which should one shot anything you fight since you can easily skill cap in every skill well before level 30.

Maybe the perks are inconsistent because they weren't planned for during development. Raising the level cap by 10 involves more than code if you're going to keep balanced gameplay. I'd have liked a perk that allows multiple followers (Cult Leader?) but having the GAME OVER ending replaced is good enough for me.

Named Brothers of Steel Missing[edit source]

What happened to most of the named Brothers of Steel that used to be around? Paladin Bael is missing, as are my Lyon's Pride survivors, Glade, Kodiak, and Vargas. As well as the Initiates of the Citadel. Where are all of them? Anyone know? --- Fireman0504

All Clear Signal for xbox 360 players?[edit source]

I am waiting for the all clear signal to download Broken Steel for the 360, IS IT SAFE!??!

There's believed to be isolated cases of bugs but it's generally ok.

I have gotten 60 achievement point from the DLC, yet my gamerscore still only displays 1200/1200 and the 60 have not been added to my total gamescore. Anyone else have this happen? ~TinyPenguininja

Yup... but I don't really care about gamerscore... the expansion is SWWWEEEEETTT!!! --- Fireman0504

To TinyPenguininja: Bethesda has stated that the achievement matter has already been reported and will be solved (patched?) ASAP. Lurking around, i found a BS employee interview stating that "No one will lose his/her points". Still, they have probably have more urgent matters to take care of, like the PC version failboat. Maybe it wouldn't be all that bad to start the game all over to try and get them again... ~Mister C.

I have yet to run into any type of bug so far after a couple hours of game play. I'd go ahead and buy it. ~McRad

I hope they release a patch soon. Many of the scripts and speeches are off in the Citadel. The Initiates who usually do pushups are stuck sleeping, and there are a bunch of characters missing. They aren't major issues... just annoying little glitches.

Off topic question: where are the overlords, they are a bitch to find!

yeah its safe finished main quests and side quests without any problems--rtxh

I dont have the script clitch, everything is fine. GREAAAAAAAAAAAAT ADD-ON!

I beat it in three hours, didn't get any glitches at all, and the gamerscore is working fine for me.

Well, my fails to work, during Take IT Back, Liberty Prime just stands still and won't move for anything. Also, half of the Enclave soldiers are swimming in the river.

I haven't had any problems after playing for 4 hours, besides the fact that I can't find a few people at the Citadel. I'd download it. It's great! Abbitha7 00:47, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

After downloading my game crashed several times. Let's face it though, Fallout likes to crash if you're standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. The only new bug I ran into was inside project purity towards the end of the main quest. After talking to doctor Li on the intercom Sarah Lyons just stood there and kept saying "lets secure the area before doing anything else." After plugging in my ethernet cable and restarting the console, however, an add-on popped up. After downloading the game progressed normally. And props to Bethesda for totally unscrewing the ending! I was able to use Fawkes to start Project Purity! The add-on began normally with Elder Lyons stating that I'd been knocked out when the energy spiked. The only down-side is Ron Perlman made me sound like an asshole during the end-clip following Project Purities startup. He said I allowed a true hero to make the sacrifice (even though Fawkes survives). It was worth watching Fawkes kick the console in frustration though!

I'm running into the same issues as the above player stated... After the download (even w/ connection to internet) Lions just keeps saying, "lets make sure the area is locked down"/ "lets make sure the area is sucure before we do anything else" and I cannot advance past killing the people inside the purifier... 20:18, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Neospyd3r

To fix the Setinal Lyons "Let's make sure the area is secured" glitch; just download the 1.5 patch.

FEV[edit source]

Sorry I was the guy who asked about the connection. Why do you have to pay for supplies and repairs after you buy broken steel? I just bought it and lyons makes you a knight and durga keeps making me pay for supplies- bearfeymous

Has anyone spiked the water yet?

See Aqua Pura. Apparently one of the consequences is near-lethal water. -- Commdor /{Talk} 00:18, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Kind of a random question but do you need a internet connection to play broken steel after you buy it on xbox live?

No siree. Fat Man Spoon 19:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
but you do for Operation Anchorage.

For Fat Man Spoon, You dont need internet for Operation Anchorage..... For the 360, you just need to register it to your console by going to the xbox website...

I never said you did... that was someone else. Fat Man Spoon 23:03, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Myself and at least one other player have experienced a glitch with the FEV. At random intervals the game tallies a drink of modified FEV water against the player, despite the fact none was consumed. Eventually, the player will just start dropping dead (because the limit has been reached) for no reason. This is a real glitch, it was not "accidentally" consuming FEV spiked water (drinking Holy Water, etc), the message ("Continued consumption of etc etc") comes up out of nowhere for seemingly no reason. Initial testing seems to indicate that completing / starting the quest Holy Water is the culprit, but I plan on play testing it much more extensively to be sure. As this is a save file breaking glitch, precautions should be taken. Esker 16:59, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Reflect Current GFWL Unavailability[edit source]

I'd like to add a notice to the Broken Steel page that it is currently unavailable for download on GFWL for PC users, and to see the Bugs section. It's sort of like smoking a cigarette to make public transportation appear. As soon as I post this, BS will become available.--Brian ranzoni 00:33, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

P.S. I am aware that it was initially available for PC users as well as Xbox 360. But the PC version has since been removed from Microsoft's marketplace. So saying that it was released for GFWL could be confusing for people coming to this page (it was for me; I had to go to the seperate bug page just to find out that the download is borked). Once Broken Steel goes live again, the page can always be updated or reverted.--Brian ranzoni 00:39, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Achievements[edit source]

The achievements have finally been added to the Fallout 3 list of Achievements on the 360, but anyone who got the achievements before they fixed the list is pretty much f'd because mine still says 58/64 and 1200 out of 1350 even though I did the three Quest achievements. Why can't Bethesda release anything that isn't bugged to hell? Is that going to be their staple from now on? So has anyone heard of what they plan on doing about people who already had the achievements?

I'm sure it'll be fixed in time. My achievments were messed up too...

Same here, do you think if they fix them that we'll have to re-do them?

Im still in the Pitt so i forgot everything i did in the capital wasteland

The Enclave Mini-comp[edit source]

When I was heading towards the Enclave camp to test my deathclaw mind control scrambler, I saw a mini-computer sitting on a desk, it was 3 times smaller than a normal comp. LOL

I've seen some cool miniatures aswell, one of those big boats shrunk down to the size of a teddybear lying in the bath-tub where you find Wint in Olney, and two of those UFO-jungle-gyms next to the stationary MARK turrets near the Tesla Coil. Gabriel77cortez 15:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Lol, ok

Actually, my memory isnt good enough to do so.

- I've seen it, it's on the Seward Sq. Northeast. It's in the fortified Talon company area, on a desk. There's about two mercs there. The note says:

"It's been confirmed. The purifier has been activated. We've been ordered to fortify our current position and wait for orders. With a lull in the fighting, we set up our fortified position outside the Capitol Building, near Seward square. Things have been relatively quiet around here lately. That'll all change when word spreads of the purifier. Anyone and everyone will do whatever they can to get their hands on some of that water. For life or profit, it makes no difference. Same old killing, just a different ingredient. Katface

I've found that too. The fact that it's numbered suggests there's more. Should this be mentioned somewhere yet? -- 01:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Random Encounters and Such[edit source]

I know it's still kinda early, but any info on the new random encounters added with BS? I heard something about a Talon Co. datalog, and that's about it.

On an unrelated note, I just beat BS yesterday, after taking the good karmic path and blowing up Raven Rock, self-destructing Eden, and allowing Autumn to leave peacefully, I gotta ask: Who the HELL was leading the Enclave during the events of Broken Steel? I half-expected at least a boss character, but all I ran into was those Sigma Squad fools. Cannon fodder for me, anyway.TunnelSnake 21:57, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

What the hell happens to autumn if you let him go? I don't want to miss his outfit. Fat Man Spoon 22:00, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Nothing happens. You never see him again.

Oh, and I found this little tidbit on the forums, discussing new encounters. The BoS take over Fort Bannister? Sweeeeet. TunnelSnake 22:11, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I've also heard about a raider group ambushing a water caravan near Tenpenny Tower. I'm away from my Xbox. Somebody want to confirm this? TunnelSnake 22:45, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

LOL THEY did! And they got pwnt.

There is another encounter west of Kaelyns Bed and Breakfast that involves a group of non-hostile female wasters either "using their looks" or ambushing a water caravan. I waited around but one never showed up though. --- Fireman0504

In the encounter west of Kaelyn's B&B, if you didn't escort the kid from little lamplight, his party hat will appear on the table. Given the position of the encounter is directly between Little Lamplight and Big Town, it is obvious the women stole it from the kid.

Maybe not, cause i escorted him (chatty little bastard) and hat was still there.

The loser leading the enclave was none other than the leader of the cobra in GI JOE!!!!!!!!

What happened to the Violator?[edit source]

Wasn't there more content on the Violator article? The history says it was made today, but I thought that it had existed before and had more info about the weapon; at least before it wasn't a stub. 00:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, so I'm not insane, I noticed that too. Anyone know what happened to the original article? --Captain192 00:41, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The Water Caravans[edit source]

Has anyone guarded the water caravan that leaves from Jefferson Memorial, i tried for like a two hours we just traveled through the wasteland getting shot at though. 06:23, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I have not followed them around to much but I have noticed they show up places pretty randomly. Needs to be confirmed, but for 360 I killed all the guards, brahmin, and scavengers in front of the brotherhood and no one attacked me. Maybe because of a faction type thing now that the dweller is in BoS? - Bot

I followed them all the way. It took me almost a day (real time). I equipped them at Jeffersons and was clearing a way in front of them with my team (Dogmeat, Fawkes, Cross, Charon), but guards still managed to get killed like 2 times each (resurrected, reequipped). Scavenger never died, Brahmin once. This is their path :
Jefferson Memorial - Irradiated metro - Citadel - Arlington Library - Flooded Metro - Nuka-Cola plant - Andale - Overlook Drive-In - Tenpenny Tower - RobCo facility - Jocko's Pop & Gas Stop - Smith Casey's Garage - they stay on the road between Little Lamplight and Charnel House until Five Axles Rest Stop - MDPL Mass Relay Station - A wanderer Camp - Paradise Falls - Reclining Groves Resort Homes - MDPL-13 power station - road between Greener Pastures Disposal Site and Alien Crash Site - Old Olney - Republic of Dave, where they turn and go back the same way they came.
This doesn't look very random to me, please verify. Same team (id-s, equipped gear) is now almost always (once i saw some other team) leaving Jefferson Memorial when i walk in from Citadel

Here are theirs form ID-s :
Scavenger xx00372C
Brahmin xx00372B
Guard 1 xx003731
Guard 2 xx003732

--ThorX 19:11, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I followed the caravan all the way. It followed this route: Jefferson Memorial, Irradiated metro, Citadel, Arlington Library, Citadel, Irradiated metro, Jefferson Memorial. Along the way I was attacked by enclave troops, two super mutant overlords (on two separate occasions), raiders, and talon company thugs. The scavenger died by charging head first into a crowd of talon company mercs... but the caravan kept going without him. All in all, it must have taken around 2hrs real time to complete the entire journey. If you're going to follow these guys, I suggest you bring anything you need for repairs because the journey can be very extensive and the scavenger's repair skill is terrible. Also, make sure your pack mule... er companion is ready to carry lots of crap because it's likely you'll accumulate more than you can carry of stuff to sell. EDIT: After a few days in game, I went back to the Jefferson Memorial and the scavenger was still dead. This means the caravans likely don't reset until everyone gets killed. Also, the guards and brahman had the same health, so keep that in mind if you intend to follow the caravan for more than one trip... it'll become increasingly more difficult to keep them alive for each trip. 10:12, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I got close to 40 fingers on the route to Old Olney and humans were not that common. Worst are Albino radscorpions which get very abundant at lvl 25. Oh, yea, and got from fresh lvl 25 to 26 before i came back. I was taking only non-weight stuff on the way back, we were all rather full even though i kept repairing stuff to stack it and repairing my own gear. Should ve taken a couple of snipers with me for parts, though.--ThorX 14:42, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Giving (pickpocketing or additem 15169 5) guards and driver stimpaks will keep them a bit healthier. I also gave guards Chinese assault rifles, Railway rifle to driver and Enclave power armor to all. Railway Rifle proved very effective in drivers hands, but guards are not really tough, more fast (to duck and cover, ehm, run like a wind ).--ThorX 18:30, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I still don t know who is delivering water to Megaton. There were BoS guards with driver and brahmin once, very trigger happy, thank you auto save, but apart from that, no one i know of. Those BoS-es clashed with a 2-men + sentry bot Outcast patrol near Vault 101, made some mince meat without a sweat. 'Teach you to mess with me' after a couple seconds of heavy weapons music. Scary --ThorX 19:11, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Some caravan screenshots. I gave them gear, so they are not vanilla. --ThorX 08:38, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
It turns out they don't follow the same route in reverse when they leave the Republic of Dave. I escorted them there and back (yes, I was bored) and they took a different route after passing the alien crash site. They went East of Paradise Falls into Germantown and followed the old highway into Big Town, where I met another caravan going the other way (see below). They went toward Jury St and turned East at the Enclave camp near Dot's Diner. From there they went into Fairfax, down the old freeway a bit and cut toward Andale past the concrete treehouse. They got back on the road that leads North out of Andale and it was a reverse of the trip from there to the Jefferson Memorial. At the end of the bridge to the memorial, they promptly turned around and started walking back across it.
The caravan coming the other way through Big Town might have been a random encounter or something. I heard a battle on the way into town but didn't see anything. Both the guards were dead and the bodies of 4 slavers were nearby. The refids of all of them were very similar.

DLC has encountered difficulties[edit source]

  • NOTE- The initial PC download of this DLC has encountered difficulties. The DLC pack was offered for sale on May 5th, but was quickly withdrawn after reports of the Pack refusing to install. The problem seems to be a Windows Live miscalculation of the game volume. (I speak under correction here). The Game Pack is back up on Window's Live Marketplace today, May 7, so the problem may have been remedied. (The game downloaded for me but did not install. I am attempting a new install as I write. I may need to delete my download and try afresh) The game is sold without warranty.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Still potentially broken on pc[edit source]

enen though the download is out, don't forget that this needs 1.5 to run, and 1.5 can crash when you try to save with a mod that adds new content. This adds new content. -DragonJTSLeave me a message 22:45, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

PC release date changes[edit source]

As it keeps getting changed in the article: The DLC was released on May 5th for PC and for some localized versions (like mine) there were never any difficulties. So please stop changing the PC release date just because the English version was apparently broken, thanks. -- Porter21 (talk) 22:49, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Level 30 XP[edit source]

I have tested with Broken Steel, and you need 66,700 xp total to get to level 30. The progression has not changed between levels 1-20 and 21-30.

  • Yeah, I was worried it would take insane amounts of xp to get that high so I made a character with all three levels of swift learner and I played through on Very Hard. I ranked up to thirty in as many hours of gameplay.

Encounters[edit source]

Whoever said so, don't worry about the poor editing, there's plenty of people who'll gradually fix it. --Captain192 16:44, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

West of Arlington Library, there is a new building in front of the Talon Company outpost.[edit source]

Is this a new house which you can enter like "Hank's Electronic Supply" next to Jury Street Metro Station? If so, where is it? Cuz I can't find it, need a more detailed description, cuz, that Talon Company Outpost is directly to the south of Arlington Library, and first it says to the west of Arlington, then in front of Talon's Camp, which is north. So which is it? Southwest? And no I found the water barrel, I'm interested in this "new house". 23:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

It's just a new building, no way to enter it.

Perhaps a setup into the new expansion or perhaps something that was supposed to go into Broken Steel before it was forced out the door at Bethesda. fubarmonkey 16:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

New monsters - totally overpowered[edit source]

Including the new monsters in the main storyline quests is a bad move. During the assault of the GNR Building, Broken Steel replaces few Super Mutant Masters with the new breed of Overlords. Actually the total number is 4 or 5 Super Mutant Overlords in one place. You cant expect a newbie character to overcome those monstrosities. Overlord's HP is much greater even than the Behemoth's, not to mention that the Tri-Beam Laser Rifles that just tear you apart. Thank god Lyon's squad members can't be killed (they just go unconscious). To pass those Overlords your char has to be really well equipped or leveled, or edited. I tried it with a 40th lvl shooter character with SPECIAL stats all to 10 and I had to hide most of the time and wait for the BOS soldiers to kill the Overlords, becoming unconscious ever 5 seconds. The ordinary Super Mutant becomes a joke.

Of course you can't expect a lower level to fight them, THEY ARE LEVELED! They will only show up abundantly after level twenty, you idiot. They will show up RARELY at level 15. And you can't get to level 40. The cap is 30. Learn to play. And you can't have all your SPECIAL be ten. For this to happen, you would need 70 SPECIAL points. It's only possible to get 53. Again, learn to play and stop lying. and overlords aren't very hard. Use a damned Metal Blaster or the Fat Man if you are really afraid of dying. 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Feral Ghoul Reavers are also totally overpowered. Their HP is also just too much. Powerful attack that kills you in 2-3 hits ... I tried blowing up one of those with 3 plasma mines and the result was ~ -20% HP

Giant Albino Radscorpion - also totally messed but compared to the other new monsters he is the weakest, mainly because he is slow and has no ranged attack.

The only thing I accept are the tough Enclave Hell-something Soldiers. Ive read that during the great war, power armor is created to replace the tanks and other armored vehicles, because of the lack of fuel. So it fair enough for the power armor to be really something when it comes to resisting damage.

I also read someone saying that the Tesla Cannon is overpowered ... well .. its not! True - it causes a lot of damage and it is very ammo friendly since it requires just one EC to fire, but it has to reload after each shot, you cant use it in short range, and half of the time the beam just passes through the enemy (its kinda bugged in my opinion). So - no, its not overpowered.

Bottom line - new monsters are totally overpowered, they totally ruin the game, making non-top weapons 100% useless Deathclaws are supposed to be the toughest creatures in the wasteland, not some rotting corpse-reaver or some albino punks 19:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I totally agree with the Reaver being overpowered,They killed me twice in the presidential metro, It was the only time I had ever been killed apart from falling. The Terrible Shotgun hardly dented its health. Thank God for the Sentry Bots. Fat Man Spoon 19:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

  • From what I understand, the Overlords don't show up until the player reaches level 15 and up. So if you're seeing Overlords at GNR, you're hardly a newbie by that point. By level 10, you should already have a good strategy for taking out tough enemies. I will agree that the reavers seem overpowered, but this may have more to do with the "spazing" bug than their actual health, as most bullets seem to go right through them. The Albino Radscorpions are also a bit tough. They're like slighty weaker versions of Behemoths, but unlike the Giant Radscorpions, they are usually loners and easier to manage given the open space they usually appear in. So yes, the new enemies are tough, but it's a given that with the new level cap, they would be. fubarmonkey 19:27, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
  • I still think its not balanced at all. You new level cap gives you some advantage yes, but the new monsters are way way too tough. And as far as the Sentry Bots in the presidential tunnel - they hardly save the battle, the key point is the new Mark VII Turret that seems to be immune to the Reaver's ranged attack. And I cant imagine a lvl 15 char killing 5 Overlords.
  • Overlords aren't tough. They are weaker than the behemoth that you find there. And a level fifteen character CAN kill them with the right strategy or use of vats. Ya mind signing you posts? 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

The main problem remains the fact that non-top weapons are useless against the new monsters, no matter what tactic one uses. (I don't consider a weapon useful if you waste 30 stimpacks and 10 cartridges to survive against an opponent) 19:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I can't honestly say I've had particular problems. My character is mostly stealth which has helped considerable with most encounters. Maybe when I go through with my heavy weapon guy, the problems will be more noticeable. fubarmonkey 21:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
  • I was stealthing through with 100 sneak, and the chinese stealth armour, and everytime I fired a shot(even from the dart gun} I was detected instantly and got swamped. Fat Man Spoon 20:11, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
    • Same here and yet no problem.

i would say they are overpowerd but once you hit 20+, the enemies arent that hard. you just need to make a new stargey other than stand and also depends on what diffculity ur playing it on and im playing at hard, so you shouldnt have a hard time if u play on easy or very easy--That70sdude 21:10, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I've been playing on medium with little difficulty. My followers do seem to have a hard time with some of the newer enemies, but this was a problem even before the DLC with anything bigger than a breadbox. fubarmonkey 21:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree totally with this assessment. I think that the Overlords should be somewhere between the Behemoth and Master. Not above them both. And the Feral Ghoul Reavers are the worst, though. The Terrible shotgun does barely anything against them, even against a head shot. As far as I can tell they're just ghouls in the remnants of metal armor. The Albino Radscorpions seem to be just like the Giant Radscorpions, so that's not bad, but they really did overdo it with the Overlords and Reavers. As was noted above, the Hellfire Troopers are just fine as is too. --- Fireman0504

They are between a behemoth and a master. 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

For a stealthy small guns character on very hard those reavers make presidential metro absolute hell. There is just no way you can destroy so many reavers you just have to sneak through so that means no companions for next stage. The only effective way to get rid of Overlords is Shady Sands Shuffle which isnt always possible. Total BS that even with all those perks like ninja, better criticals, bloody mess you cant sneak attack headshot an overlord and kill it not even with Terrible shotgun. And one more thing... 75 XP for such a fight.. COME ON i take down Master for such XP in two shots, Overlords just eat half of my ammo.

I don't think they are over powered (even though fawkes saved my a-s-s several times reavers are a pain and overlords are just.... well meh overlords are kinda easy (well maybe cause im kinda a major fallout nerd and i have all the unique weps) the most effective wep is the tri-beam laser rifle. AND they all drop pretty amazing things (cept the scorpians) overall i think its fair....noobs

Of cousre they die faster on easy. And don't call people noobs if you don't sign your damned posts. 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

I said small guns so Tri beam laser isnt really an option is it? But of course they drop quickly on easy difficulty, try playing on very hard. Please explain what unique weapons you have in mind cause i tried Lincolns Repeater, Blackhawk, Xualong Assault, Terrible Shotgun and i always ended up wasting tons of ammo. And stop calling other people noobs when you obviously arent that good, wish there was multiplayer but oh well...

Xuanlong can do over 120 damage per shot with right perks, and if overlords have even one thousand health, it only takes 9 shots :P 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

I'm at level 23 and I don't find them that deadly. Reavers have only been a problem because they spax. A few shots from a .44 down overlrods with ease, and even albinos are easy to take out if you just backpedal. -DragonJTSLeave me a message 04:14, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

On very hard its definetly not few shots my Lincoln Repeater goes down like 40% and majority of shots are headshots, first being sneak attack critical. My level doesnt really matter cause my SPECIAL and stats i need are maxed since like lvl 15. IN presidential metro there are how many... 9 reavers on VH and few sentry bots that go down real fast hardly killing one reaver or glowing one. I'm actually ok with strong foes but at least XP reward could be higher a LOT.

if you have unique weapons, good charatcer and your good player, u shouldnt have trouble. for albiono scropions and reavers, hit em with dart gun or cripple thier legs and they shouldnt be any proplem(i hope, i know it works for the scrpions but nor sure about the reavers). for overlords, i like using sneak attacks but if u cant then get the weapon out of thier hands(with vats)take it and then just shoot with the most poweful gun you have .that should work.

Easiest way to deal with the new critters is to use paralyzing palms and/or reverse pickpocket a grenade on enclaves. Also sticking your followers on them helps a great deal, its a bug i think that can make your followers near invincible, giving them far more hp than that of a mutant overlord. I had this happen with dogmeat and fawkes, later on I killed fawkes and it took about 10 minutes on very easy, using about 300 shotgun shells and 30-40 nuclear anomoly blasts.

I'd agree that the new enemies are very difficult, but honestly I think it's somewhat welcomed because before the game was just too easy, even on very hard. The Reavers imo are the worst because of how many you can run into at once. That presidential metro must've had around 6 in there and let me tell you, it was no picnic. Yet, with a dart gun and a good NPC companion tank, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Just make sure you bring lots of ammo and or a fatman :) 10:20, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

The tougher monsters are a result of people (including me) complaing about how easiy the pitt and operation anchorage were. If you really have that much of a problem with them just change the difficulty. Falloutmasta 04:05, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

I find that stealth is the best way to take on the new monsters. If you have 100% stealth and you're using Chinese Stealth Armor, not many opponents will notice you. When I went into Vault 87 for Finding the Garden of Eden, there were five Overlords in the living quarters. I found that opening up into any of them with the Perforator (Infiltrator) did not reveal my location. It took time, but they didn't get a single shot off (I took out a Broken Steel enemy with a Pitt weapon thanks to Operation Anchorage armor). Also, if you need to take out an enemy one on one or a group spots you, the Gauss Rifle can really bail you out. The Tesla Cannon also seems to stun what you hit, so if you use it to Sneak Attack Critical say an Albino Radscorpion, your sneak only goes to Caution and it doesn't figure out where you are. It is also convenient if you wait for any opponent to give up so you go back to Hidden.

  • The new monsters are challenging but the game needed them as it was way too easy before. If you feel that they are 'totally overpowered' then perhaps you need to drop down a difficulty level because for some of us these new monsters even on very hard are still too easy. You have save/load and you are still complaining about the enemies being overpowered? I just think that is a bit silly.
  • Wow THIS IS WHY YOU GET THE GHOUL MASK. dam I'm glad I got it. Why does it seem like no one has it? I mean come on, nothing bad happens if you let roy phillips in. you don't need the humans there anyway. why does no one have the ghoul mask dammit?!?!? 19:18, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Probably because the ghoul mask only helps against ghouls whereas Ledoux's Hockey Mask helps against everything. Besides it is more fun to kill the ghouls than to avoid them.

Im looking forward to the new enemies in broken steel, I havent got any DLC yet but I have surplus supplies and an exellent character build with all skills 100, about 5000 rounds in most ammo types. So I would cherish harder enemies because I pretty much laugh at deathclaws.Brandon.367 09:12, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Brandon.367

Okay most of you are saying the new monsters are overpowered, but you must cters have consider that the monsters have disa vantiges. The Overlords most often have tri-beam rifles or gatling lasers, both are inaccurate especially the tri-beam even with 100 energy weapons on full condition. the gatling has a long reload time so just take cover then they will have to reload which makes them defenceless for a time. And they give a good payoff with their weapon and they most often have a mini-nuke on them. Now onto the Reavers. You can shoot their ranged weapon and hurt them i dont know by how much since i kill them too fast by using the lincon repeater and Fawkes is also with me useing his gatling laser. simce they do have a ranged attack its better for you let them notice you at a distice and they will most often use their dodge-able attack. Plus if your having so much troble just put on the Ghoul mask and if you dont have it then too bad you shouldnt of sided with mr. tenpenny. Oh and i play on hard and am lvl 30 witch i was before i even did anything in the new DLC by exploiting a glitch(Xbox360) i had never had more than 3 overlords and 2 reavers at the same time. If you dont like it if you have the 360 then delete it and if you want it back there is a "Download Again" option witch does not require you to buy it again. (If you want to contact me about this my gamertag(360) is leap1964Italic text)

I have to agree, although the only mob that seems to cause me serious problems is that Ghoul Reaver. I came up with a tactic at the end which was to blow their legs off but... I was useing rockets at them!. For a mob that is supposed to randomly fall apart and is held apart by mutatuions cause by radiation. They seem to be able to take an aweful lot of flak. No Mob should survive a rocket to the head. No mob. (xplosives and big gus are at 100 btw) On medium. Oh and the enclave are easy with that new flamethrower although I did find my self running the last leg to the mobile base rather then killing them one by one. To much fire comming down on me, although in the base, they got merked^^. Mc Scarlett 27 July

The new enemies are harder then all hell even on normal i can usually 1 shot a master with my Lincoln's repeater but hell the overlords are just impossible to kill! My 1st encounter with one was when i just left the tepid sewers to get to Georgetown i was in my stealth armor and was sneaking past talon company mercs and i was looking infront of me goin backwards to see if they were following me and i bumped into the overlord and that freaking tri beam lazer rifle freaking almost got me,and after that i was thinking the tesla cannon could probably one hit them with a sneak attack crit but hell no i was mistaken took another 5 shots from the repeater to kill it and the master that was next to it which, was no problem one headshot and the master was down Salty Demon 16:25, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

Because you suck. 4sostrander 23:58, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

With the right perks and tactics the new monsters can be defeated easily. Use the dart gun to cripple reavers' legs, use the paralyzing palm perk to completely disable the fast speed and strong attack of Albino scorpions, and be sure to dissarm the overlords of their devastating weaponry. A good unarmed character can make short work of all three with the DC gauntlet, Iron fist (x3) and paralyzing palm. Get high agility and VATS improving items/perks fore a good chance to activate the godly paralyzing palm. Oh and be sure to get some sneak attacks in.--Grandmaster Chen 17:23, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

The enimies being really tough is

no effect[edit source]

this has been my faviorate dlc so far but i hate the fact that whatever your choices are in the end, it really dosnet have that much of an effect on the rest of world or DC itslef. other than a few caravans here and couple of BOS there, it really dosent seem to effect any1 or thing. you would think that the rest of the water would get clean but that dosent even happen. they said that ur choices would effect the world your in, but i just thought it would have more of an effect, a lot more. what do u think?

  • I don't like the fact that it seems to punish the evil choices, such as choosing to blow up the Citadel. As soon as you do that, it's all over. There are no more little side quests and it just throws you out like so much garbage. Would have been nice to be given the choice to join the Enclave or at least work in tandem with them and equally collect stuff for them. The good choices at least give you some reason to run through some dungeons and Metro to pick up junk. fubarmonkey 22:03, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

you make a good point. i dont see why the enclave shoud still be hoistale towards. you basiclly ended the brotherhood! dosent that count for something? at least some sidequest like fubarmonkey said. all you get is an awesome magnum.

Become a BoS knight[edit source]

I think it should be noted that after Take it Back! you become a BoS Knight, and that you then be allowed to pick up any BoS items (i.e. the small bunker near Washington Monument and Hotel) - Tedjuh10

actually i tested this out today and had no problems taking what i pleased at the hotel. -mat mod

New Location?[edit source]

Hazmat Desposal Site L5. It's a ghoul-infested tunnel that connects L'Enfant South to the Mall Southwest, just outside the Lincolm Memorial. It's full of dead raiders, those damn reavers, some loot, and gas traps. I didn't have a chance to fully explore. Since I couldn't find any other mention of it on the wiki, I assumed (correctly, I hope) that it was added with Broken Steel. Any thoughts? TunnelSnake 23:31, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

nope its always been there you just missed it til broken steel came out

completely off topic theres most likely going to be a new expansion, you know THE COMMONWEALTH!!11! they hint at it a couple of times. and that A guy (in teh game) said Madison Lee went to the commonwealth and that confirmed my beliefs.

Can someone PLEASE fix the grammar error in the main article! It's not the wastelanders' ROLL in ambushing caravans.. they don't have a piece of bread they ambush with. It's their ROLE. 20:34, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

yea i think im just gonna call this the misc forrum page so yeeahhh everyones off topic...soo KAY!

also microsoft can make better better and bigger bids because they make alot more monmey from their consoles cos they charge for Live. its proably cause sony is making another game an excluisve. beliave it or not, for a decent game it takes lots of money. im thinking that Sony wants to use its money for what they think is a better choice. Sony had spent a lot of money for those upcoming exclusives. btw Microsoft is freakin loaded. They can buy their counatry or couantries if they wanted to and getting these DLC excluisve is kind of smart choice if your comparing online services.--That70sdude 22:39, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

stupid bugs be fixed![edit source]

Anyone have any clue when these stupid bugs for Broken Steel will be fixed? I want to play it so bad! The only reason why I didnt download it on its release is because i feared of major bugs and now look at all of em! grr

You can avoid most of them, just save often.
The funny thing is that Fallout 3 itself had to be at least half as buggy as Broken Steel is unpatched, so you've probably dodged more bugs than you would know. Go ahead and download Broken Steel, I played through the whole thing and only had to deal with a buggy Gauss Rifle.. I mean Tesla Cannon. -- 15:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

New Heavy Outcast patrols[edit source]

They have BS id-s, heavier than anyone else and i walk around with them a lot.

New Unmarked Quest[edit source]

Please Confirm Details.

Having completed the main story line and all the side quests, I just met a group of three BoS Paladins crouching behind a log just northeast of Fort Bannister. I entered dialogue with one and he said his team was preparing to attack and decimate Talon Company because they had been ambushing water caravans. A member of their team had scouted around the other side of the base. I told the Paladin I would try to find this team member.

After circling the fort to the southeast, I found nothing but a sentry bot. I then neutralized all Talon Company personnel on the surface on my way back to the team. When I entered dialogue with the paladin, he asked (not to me) what was taking his team member so long, indicating to me that they might be dead.

I suggested we attack immediately and we were off. One of the team members disappeared on the way to the base (50 yds). We met no resistance because I had all ready removed it, and the three of us entered to hatch in the tent. I stealthed and tried to help as a Mk VII turret quickly dispatched the first paladin, then a Talon Company Merc hit the other paladin with a rocket launcher.

The assault was over before it began and this had nothing to do with what I had been doing, so I left as the mercs had never seen me. I would qualify this as an unmarked quest, and I didn't get the full story. Someone please investigate.

  • Update: the scout is Paladin Jenson. I found him in a tent in the middle of Fort Bannister. Apparently he had been captured intentionally so he could gather intel. I also circled entirely around the fort and found a second team of three Bos Paladins near the rock ledge southwest of the fort. I think it was the same three and they had been "teleported" by faulty code. This time I helped Jenson escape, and without a weapon he was quickly killed by mercs and a sentry bot. Meanwhile the team launched their attack on their own without any influence from me, and again, one of them disappeared. This time I had not killed the mercs on the surface and they destroyed the two Paladins.

I think this is just a classic fubar mission. I'm going to try multiple permutations, including killing all mercs in the whole base and then telling them to attack.

It's an encounter and is listed here --ThorX 07:44, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

what if i delete broken steel?[edit source]

im not sure what might happen if i do this , or where it will go back to, considering the levels higher, not just item removal, is it safe to?

It will proberly screw up your game. Fat Man Spoon 21:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
who knows you might go into no mans land like what happened in oblivion when you deleted the wizards tower havoc131
Oblivion wizards tower glitch probably the best glitch in a game.

i thought as much , if it wasent a level cap add on, i know i could, i wish i saved before i started it :P -matmod

I just tested this out. You keep the level you were at, but can't gain xp. Your skills stay at what they were in broken steel. If you finished broken steel, everyone reverts to 'Take it back!' dialogue, all followers can be asked to enter the purifier, even in the middle of no-where, the door to the Jefferson Memorial disappears, and you can walk through the hole in the wall. All perks you took after level 20 dissappear. Any items you had from broken steel go away. Fat Man Spoon 15:16, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Perks are crap?[edit source]

Anyone else think Broken Steel's Perks are pretty crappy? Out of all of them, only Puppies, Almost Perfect, Nuclear Anatomy, and Quantum Chemist seem to be at all useful, everything else is easily done without wasting a perk. But I guess there wasn't much more to add... But still, they seem like they were intentionally crappy. ZanderArch 08:37, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Nah, I actually found the new perks to be interesting, although they seemed late in coming. It's for whoever wants them, really; probably a decent amount of people have found them to be useful in some way. However, my Puppies! perk has caused my game on the 360 to freeze whenever I get close to Vault 101, so we should take it all with a grain of salt sort-of-thing. Installing after "Take It Back!"[edit source]

If you get Broken Steel after you finished the original game can you still install and continue or do you have to revert to an earlier save before finishing the final quest? Just curious, because from all information available here and on Bethesda's site seems to indicate that you have to have it installed before you reach that point... --Jellyb0nes 04:08, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

No you can install it, the game auto saves before you speak to Autum (sp?) then you just activate the puritfier (sp XD) the you start broken steel.

playable after beating main game story???[edit source]

i want to know if this DLC is playable after beating the main game story like, i go into the thing, save the water, die, do i like come back to life and play this DLC or do i have to keep the main story line on hold and just play this DLC BEFORE beating the main story line???

P.S. some of the new perks seem WAY overpowered i mean nuclear ananomy and almost perfect like wholy shit 9 to all S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (does it make 10's 9 or only numbers lower than 9) and becoming a nuclear blast at low HP wouldnt that make you damn near invincible (if it doesnt kill you to) or wouldnt almost perfect deafeat the point of using Power armour or outcast power armour for the +2 STR, or any other quip with a + to special stat, and with 10 more lvls you can get ALL your skills to 100 no?, do they upgrade that 100 to 120 or 150 or something? and then rad absorbtion will defeat the purpose of having my first infirmary, and then the nuka cola quatum one defeats the purpose of searching the game for all 91+ of them (+ for the random ones you find in machines)and warmonger...for searching for all 3 parts of each schematic to get all v3, nerves of steel is pretty much useless with Grim Reaper's Sprint unless those 3-4 hits dont kill the enimy in which use FPS instead, and the 3 karma ones!! i been giving away 50+ purified water to get my karma and 150+ scrap metal to megaton guy to for free to keep my karma high, then intense training is now waisted because of the 2 new SPECIAL modifying perks, some of the perks are absolutely useless (deep sleep, rad tolerance) and some absolutely overpowered (almost perfect, 3 karma ones) like WTF talk about screwed up balancing

  • You can DL Broken Steel and continue the FO 3 main questline or just roam the Wasteland wreaking havoc and chaos up to Level 30. Broken Steel's perks, critters and perks will be available at any stage in the game from exiting Vault 101, though most of the locations will not. The BS storyline, which continues after you go into the reactor chamber in Take it Back! ONLY becomes playable AFTER you've completed the Fallout 3 main storyline. So, you can benefit from the level cap increase and meet new enemies, but not access the BS quests until after you 'finish' the game. Nuclear Anomaly? Meh. Getting down to 20% health doesn't happen that often (I guess it -might- be handy if you wait for 30 to go into the Presidential Metro what with all those Feral Ghoul Reavers).'ve been giving away Purified Water for Karma? Why? I've never felt the need to deliberately up my Karma, even with mezing and enslaving people and stealing things, the game keeps your Karma pretty high anyway. As for Almost DO have to wait til Lvl 30 for it. And you can get SPECIAL stats at 10 way before that. Its a choice between having everything at 9 at the end, or having a more mixed character on the way. And no, skills still don't go above 100. 21:20, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

UNending???[edit source]

hi, i finally got this DLC its my 1st DLC, and sum1 told me that i should get it 1st "because it gives +10 lvl cap and makes the game unending" is it true, if i beat the main quests for Broken steel add-on does the game not end?

It's true. There is no ending if you finish the Broken Steel quests. Duncanxxxx 09:10, 19 July 2009 (UTC) a good thing tho. in my first play thru without broken steel, i was shocked that i couldn't play anymore. And anyway, ITS AN RPG!(Fatmouth7 21:34, September 2, 2009 (UTC))

Time[edit source]

anyone else think that 5 hours was a bit much for how long it would take to complete the main quest to this dlc? It took me under 2 hours.--LoneMerc101 19:34, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to guess that Bethesda used the additional content in Broken Steel toto for their "extra playtime added" stats. Well, hopefully. 21:09, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Five hours was the time it takes to kill a ghoul reaver. Duncanxxxx 09:10, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Friendly Enclave Bug[edit source]

I've run into three different groups of Enclave (after BS quests) which have a missile launcher Enclave soldier who is marked as "friendly" and won't shoot you. You can go up and talk to him. He doesn't even seem to care if you blow up his friends. He only turns hostile if you hurt him. Duncanxxxx 09:10, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Happened to me too. It was in some ruins NE of Springvale School. --TheFrogger 22:27, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

playing w/o xbox live and downloading other add-ons[edit source]

Just a quick question from a newb. Right now, I have Fallout 3 on the 360 with no add-ons, and I don't have X-Box Live (really don't care to get it. Don't feel like creating profiles and signing up and worrying about Internet connections and having those "___ is now online" messages pop up every 10 seconds). However, I really want Broken Steel. I know that at one point you could ONLY download it off X-Box Live. However, I also know that some of the add-ons are being sold on discs at stores, just like regular video games. What I want to know is do I still need X-Box Live to play, or can simply buy the disc, pop it in, go through some installation process (just like when you try to play an original X-Box game), and from there just play the additional content using my regular Fallout 3 game disc?

Also, along with Broken Steel, I'm also interested in some of the other content (notably the Pitt and possibly Operation: Anchorage). Since those take place during the main game and BS takes place afterwards, would I still be able play the Pitt or O:A during BS (not during a BS mission, of course. I mean between missions or something).

Last question, really quick. All 3 add-ons star the Lone Wanderer, right?

Add-on Packs[edit source]

Is it possible to reuse Add-on pack discs on other consoles ? If so, once someone gets the 2nd Game add-on Pack, would somebody be interested in selling after they've used it ? I'm Stuck at Level 20, I've beat Operation:Anchorage, I've collected all the ingots from the Pitt and completed all possible quests there, I've Completed every quest in the game except Take it Back, I've Given the Modified FEV virus to Elder lyons, I've done my own Scourge of the Capital Wasteland killing every Feral Ghoul, talon company merc., raider, and radscorpion I saw. I have 5 skills at 100. I don't have Xbox live so I'm bored death. I need more DLC !!!!!NukaColaClear 21:19, 30 July 2009 (UTC)NukaColaClear

Instead of buying a used one, why don't you just find out where they got it from?--TheFrogger 22:31, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

Not-so-easy mission[edit source]

So I got ready for Who Dares, Wins. Loaded up on alien ammo, heavy incinerators, stimpaks and more, and I brought along SPC (star palidan cross) I came out with 5 stimpaks, 20 alien energy cells left and no SPC. I know it wasn't gnna be a picnic, but come on,really. The game is ment to be challenging. challenging is fun. if you have a problem with the difficulty, just set it to very easy.(Fatmouth7 21:41, September 2, 2009 (UTC))

Raiders Wearing Enclave Armor[edit source]

I just wanted to note the location near betheseda, sort of near the Raid shack...AFTER YOU blow up Andrews, RAIDERS can be found wearing ENCLAVE armor and using their weapons at an enclave wears enclave power armor with an eyebot helmet while the other one wears the power helmet and some raider armor....ENCLAVE is OVERRUN! -Raelik

Well, that actually happens when you complete The Waters of Life.--Master of cheeZ 21:41, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

When is it gonna come out for the PS3?[edit source]

plz if anyone knows when it is gonna be released for PS3 pls tell me plz plz and also point lookout

BS is sept 24, PL is oct 8 I think.--Radraider 21:43, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

Downloaded it for PS3 yesterday evening. It took 25 Minutes and cost £7.99. I stayed up until 02:00 playing it, it's the nuts. But it is true what they say about the Reavers, they're a real pain in the batty. Another thing I noticed was that the screen loading times take a lot longer than they did prior and there is a higher tendency for the game to freeze particularly when you are fast travelling or leaving your megaton house.--Pulpraider 12:42, September 25, 2009

Amazingly horrible PS3 bug[edit source]

I dug around a little bit to see if this question had already been asked and haven't found anything, so I apologize if I'm repeating something. I've encountered a really nasty bug after installing Broken Steel on my PS3. Once I've attained level 21 (which I've waited a year for) I can distribute my points, but it won't allow me to pick a perk. As in, any perk whatsoever, not even the ones that are available to me. I can scroll through them and see all the new ones as well, but it will not allow me to choose anything. The "Done" button is darkened, which essentially means that I can no longer play the game, because I can't proceed past that page in order to continue. Has anyone else had this happen? It is complete and total lock. Bad bad bad. Tried it multiple times with the same result, thinking it might just be a little glitch--not so.

The only notable thing I can think of is that I haven't actually "ended" the game yet, IE haven't spoken to Elder Lyons to complete the final mission of the original game.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Also, an interesting note, and not-so-horrible: in another save, I encountered a lone Enclave soldier at level 5, and another around level 10 or so. At this level a single Enclave dude can nearly wax you, and they appear behind cars and debris out of nowhere to ambush. There are no vertibirds and no camps. It seems bizarre as I haven't even completed the GNR quest yet, so there isn't an established Enclave presence. They are not buggy, they behave exactly like the regular soldiers, and you can take their armor and weapons (both so far have been non-Tesla soldiers and have had laser rifles rather than plasma--darn). So here I am at level 11 with two sets of Enclave power armor in my closet. Ha! Broken Steel residue, perhaps?

Thanks again, and I hope that if anyone else is having the level 21 issue we can at least figure something out or bring it to Sony's attention. Truly disappointing. Ihugmutants 20:24, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

  • A lone Enclave soldier will always appear at Rockbreaker's Last Gas and outside of Dukov's Place with Broken Steel installed before completing The American Dream. There may also be other 100% spawn locations too, these are just the ones I always run into. It's certainly a good source of EXP and the Enclave variants of Power Armor. They will also sometimes spawn by the farmhouse near Super-Duper Mart and on the cliffs above deathclaw sanctuary.

As for the bug you're experiencing, it happens when you don't have the latest patch is installed. Go into Settings and Display to see what the number is on the bottom-left of the screen. It needs to be 1.5 or above (maybe 1.6 on PS3) for Broken Steel to work properly. If you installed Broken Steel before getting the patch, try deleting the add-on and re-downloading to see if that fixes it. You can reach level 21+ at any time during the game; you don't have to complete the main storyline before leveling that far. --ArmeniusLOD 21:42, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a ton! Works perfectly now. Not sure what was wrong, as I had v1.6 of the patch, but deleting everything and reinstalling fixed me up. Must've been corrupted or something. I really appreciate your help. Ihugmutants 20:31, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

OVERLORD'S at level 6?!?[edit source]

seriously, why?? no character at that level is equipped to handle an overlord... i was on my way to the outcast outpost to play operation anchorage and i ran into 3 overlords on my way there... one was south of the citadel and two of them were after i navigated through bailey's crossroads and met defender morrill... seiously, i thought they weren't suppose to show up until later in my leveling... why do i have to try to take them out so early in the game?

i'm lucky that the BoS helped out with the one by the citadel but, the overlord killed all of the BoS members... thankfully they took almost all of his HP... but, the ones after bailey's crossroads were not easy to deal with... i ended up heading back to my hotel room at rivet city to collect my fatman... i had to use two nukes per overlord... if i didn't, i would of surely died like i did a hundred times before i picked up the fatman...

i just don't get it... no level 1-10 character is equipped to handle this... i mean yea, you can use a fatman but, now i have no mini-nukes thanks to them, and they aren't cheap to purchase form vendors either... now i am scared that i will run into overlords at every stinking super mutant camp across the wasteland... what's next? albino radscorpions spawning instead of mole rats?? what happened to saving these enemies for the later levels, when you could use a good challenge? it's hard enough starting out, let alone having to battle an overlord so damn early in the leveling... no one has the tools to take them out that early in the game...

anyone else having this problem when they start a new game with broken steel installed?? - artistadam 00:19, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

On a similar note when my brother was doing Tennpenny Tower he came across a Reaver at level 8.

Same here, I met Overlord at the Georgetown on the balcony with missle launcher!! I'm just level 7. SO seriosly WTF? Then Those ghouls Reavers too, annoying. I always lost all fucking stimpacks because of them. Albino Radscropion and deathclaw are fucking easy to compared to them. Won't begin[edit source]

I killed Colonel Autumn, had Sergeant RL-3 activate the purifier and then I got a short ending that didn't mention RL-3 (and I think I read it was supposed to) and then went back to the main title screen. Did I do something wrong? I am at level 21 and have encountered Mutant Overlords and Hellfire troopers but after the purifier was activated the game just ended.

Any help would be appreciated. 10:31, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Have you tried un-installing the add-on reloading a previous save before the content, then installing it again and loading your latest save? Also I think (correct me if I'm wrong!) that RL-3 appears if your karma is neutral and activating the purifier adds a lot of positive karma to your player, so it might sway you to good without telling you. Orbital Strike Animation[edit source]

Should it be noted that Skyrim's Space Core does the same animation when entering the atmosphere as the orbital strike animation when it passes through the atmosphere? (Both turn the sky blue and emit a shockwave out in the same pattern, only skyrim's is much smaller, and due to the sky already being blue, you can't see the actual color change as well as the one in Fallout 3.) If I can, I will provide the two side-by-side. It would be a nice addition to the article in notes / trivia. 04:51, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Nah, it shouldn't. It would be another case if it was another Fallout game. In this case it's Skyrim, and Skyrim is a whole other game in a whole different series. Thanks though. Detroit lions.jpg Hawk da Barber 2012 05:23, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
As a note, they also have the same crash land animation as well. However, skyrim's engine is Creation, while Fallout / New Vegas use Gamebyro. 04:26, June 20, 2012 (UTC)

Broken Steel Will Not Work On the PS3[edit source]

I paid ten goddamn dollars for this stupid add on and it absolutely refuses to work. I already uninstalled the DLC and the base game like 5 times, I know my game has the latest patch, 1.61, I checked the regions for the base game and DLC, they match up, I waited 3 in game days, it just wont go. I get to the purifier, activate it, die, credits, main menu. Every fucking time. What the hell is going on, did Sony and Bethesda just rob me? Please for the love of fucking GOD dont just sit there and tell me to uninstall or to check the region because I've already done all the 5 times. 01:04, December 2, 2012 (UTC)some guy

Also, I purchased the game in fucking Canada, Downloaded the DLC in California, but the DLC and the game have the exact same Region Serial code whatever the fuck. People say to download the fucking french version of the DLC, but how the hell would I even find that? There's only one Broken Steel displayed on the PSN store.

Okay the issue was because I purchased the American DLC, but I had a French Canadian disc, resolved it by uninstalling and then using an American copy of the game to reinstall. Have to start the whole game over though, but whatever -_- 06:04, December 2, 2012 (UTC)some guy

Antagonist(s)[edit source]

This fragment discussion was move from here

This leads to a separate, but still interesting question... who should be considered an antagonist in Broken Steel? And it got me to thinking... should the PC decide to destroy the Citadel, then they are pitted against Lyons after landing at the now-destroyed waypoint. Should Lyons be considered an antagonist by technicality? She most certainly is unique, and would be the leader of the CWBoS after her father's death. 01:33, May 19, 2015 (UTC)

And as an extra thought... Fallout 3 is clearly biased towards the CWBoS as the "Good Guys." Should the LW also be considered an antagonist, by technicality, since the option is there to destroy the "Good Guys?" 01:34, May 19, 2015 (UTC)
The Lone Wanderer can never be the antagonist, as Fallout 3 is their story. At worst, he/she could be a villain protagonist. The Brotherhood is debatable but I would personally lean no since they support you until the potential double cross and that's the end of the story. Paladin117>>iff bored; 03:44, May 20, 2015 (UTC)
It would be wrong to assume that all antagonists are not good guys. Especially in a setting that is supposed to be morally grey. An antagonist, by definition, is simply a person that stands in opposition towards another person. 05:15, May 20, 2015 (UTC)
I didn't say antagonists are good or bad. I just said that since Fallout 3 follows the Lone Wanderer, it is (s)he and their allies that are the protagonists and thei opposition that's the antagonists. If the story followed Autumn instead, it would be the other way around. Paladin117>>iff bored; 05:28, May 20, 2015 (UTC)
That does not make any sense. Just because someone originally had good interactions with a person and/or group/faction, does not mean that they are permanently immune from being labeled as antagonists should they later become hostile towards them.
I mean no disrespect by this observation... but I am not sure that you understand what an antagonist is, by actual definition - not by a simple familiarity with how linear-storied games typically portray antagonists. A cat, scratching my foot, could, by definition, be classified as an antagonist should the cat have done it on purpose. It seems lazy to dismiss a clear antagonistic action against the PC, simply because they are portrayed as the "Good guys," or because they used to work with the PC. That is simply not how the term works. 05:38, May 20, 2015 (UTC)
