Where is this "Weapon Information Database Research File" information from? Ausir 15:45, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

The Brotherhood of Steel's Citadel has a terminal with this information on it it, I believe. --Trithemius 08:48, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Is the bulk of this article anything other than speculation, up to and including the designation "R91"? It's just that if you want something that looks like a G3 but is chambered for 5.56x45mm, you need look no further than HK33. Note that by the time the Resource Wars started, the basic G3 design would have been almost a century old, which makes it highly unlikely a newly introduced weapon would simply be a close copy of this design. There are also a number of claims that jar with reality. "M," as in M9 pistol, M1 helmet, M997 ambulance, etc. stands for "model," and it's supremely unlikely the armed forces will ever discard that system. Moreover, there is no equipment that is specific to the National Guard alone. The Guard has to be capable of functioning under federal control as part of the overall armed forces, and accordingly, ARNG equipment is the same as that used (or previously used) by the regular Army. --Nick East 01:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps the discontinuation of the M-designation was a result of increased privatisation of the military (as seems to be implied elsewhere)? Divergence can account for a lot of differences! --Trithemius 08:51, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Scratch my last; the article text is copied verbatim from the Citadel weapons database in-game. While I stand by my earlier comments in the abstract, in-game information trumps my points. --Nick East 10:22, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
"Note that by the time the Resource Wars started, the basic G3 design would have been almost a century old, which makes it highly unlikely a newly introduced weapon would simply be a close copy of this design." Ah, but the world of Fallout 3 is retro-futuristic. Specifically 1940's and 50's retro when the AK-47, StG 44, and G3 were the latest and greatest. A newer, more "realistic" design of the Resource Wars would be less Fallout and more cyberpunk. Ah, is anyone here old enough to remember the glory days of Bullfrog Ltd and it's masterpiece, Syndicate? To this day, I still remember the mission to get the flamer early. Sorry, I seem to be straying from my original point here.--Brian ranzoni 20:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
But what about the G11 and its variants? They certainly don't look like retro-futuristic just plain futuristic. So why not have the standard assault rifle be something more modern looking like the FN SCAR yet can be considered futuristic since it hasn't (as of yet) reached wide scale deployment. Assault Rifles in general are not very "retro" weapons in general, i doubt that many people back in the 50's even knew what an assault rifle was and thus they might not be considered a retro concept, the M16 was fielded in the 1950's but does the M16 look retro? NO it looks futuristic! The Stg 44 was a relatively unheard of weapon until recently (we probably have Medal of Honor to thank for that)and in any cas it is and was a WWII weapon that was in the 40's not the 50's so it isn't retro. The Chinese Assault Rifle can be explained that AK style weapons would be too popular not to be implemented and like the denim jacket it would be considered a timeless classic (of the post WWII era in this case) that hasn't changed much since conception. Oh and by the way the G3 is a Battle Rifle not an Assault Rifle (check wikipedia for definition) and had plastic furniture that significantly changes its appearance from the R91 that Bethesda ended up making (the HK33 is a derivative of the G3 that uses the 5.56mm round). Also the R91 is far too inaccurate for an Assault Rifle that would chosen to be the primary service weapon of the US Military since the Army (and other services) has traditionally valued accuracy over raw power (see M16 vs AK-47 article on wikipedia for more details). The R91 should have superior accuracy to compensate for its lack of power and reduced reliability compared to the Chinese Assault Rifle from a gaming perspective.--BattleBen 05:56, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

Possible Designation M199 Edit

Once you enter the museum og Technology the 2nd plaq on the right States:

"Perhaps the most well-recognized weapon in the modern U.S. Military arsenal, the M199 earned its nickname "The Backtalker" from the unusual report the fiering mechanism makes as it ejects a spent shell. Firing standard 5.56mm rounds, the M199 is still the official infantry weapon of the U.S. Army.

On loan from the International Ordanance Museum, these cases display the carious types of weapons and ammunition used by the military in the past conflicts all over the globe."

Nope, that's another weapon that doesn't appear in the actual game. This one is clearly described as the R91 in a terminal in the Citadel. We have a separate article for the M199 assault rifle. Ausir 20:55, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
It's very likely that since M* denotes "model", R* could denote "revision". So while the traditional system was "Model 199 Assault Rifle", the new system refers to it as a "Revision 91 Assault Rifle". It's not canon, but lends itself to reasonable assumption.

Or, "R" may just mean rifle (As in "Rx4 Storm")

Pre-War R91 Edit

Does anyone have an image of the R91 that you see in the Operation: Anchorage simulation? 23:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Some General Clean Up and Revision Edit

Hello, ya'll:

I'm doing a bit of clean-up with this article, based on my experience with the R91 on the PC version. Specifically, I'm revising the characteristics section, which reads with a little too much hubris, and adding a bug section. By all means, dispute or augment my changes.--Brian ranzoni 18:42, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, in zee coming months, I plan to start a new character and to chart all the early game locations where the R91 can be found, up to the conclusion of the Galaxy News Radio quest. I figure after that point, Small Gunners ought to be using Chinese Assault Rifles or the Perforator (if not the Blackhawk or Lincoln's Repeater, mm-mm!).

Point Lookout Edit

Did anyone notice the attack of all weapons increase during the add-on? It think it happens after you get the first perk "Superior Defender" or whatever it's called. Anyway, I killed a Smuggler and then I got his rifle and it's attack was at 55 with the condition at about 2/3rds. At full power, its attack was 62. It was pretty weird as well as other items getting a power boost.Hammer Bro. Mike 16:04, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

They do...the damage is fucked...a chinese pistol can eb used to clear out the entire point lookout area because of it...and dont get me started on how much the gauss rifle does Butter 16:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Homana homana homana... I am so going to electro-magentically accelerate these inbred sonsabitches. Nitpicker of the Wastes 16:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
With the gauss rifle.....EVERYTHING can be one shotted....except from those tough-ass whaddya call them hillfolk mothers...they take 2 shots....i think the gauss rifle.....does like...oh what was it?oh yeah....212 damage......with bloody mess and superior defender Butter 16:11, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Hold on. I'm back in the Capital. My CAR is doing 59 damage. It's at 85% condition. My small guns is at 46. WHAT THE HELL?! Nitpicker of the Wastes 16:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Damn you bethesda...broke yet another add-on.....i almost saw that it was like operation anchorgae's release with the content of the pitt.....the content part is correct....but the release is WRONG.....also recent research shows that theirs some shitty script activated with superior defender Butter 16:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't have Superior Defender. Just Ghoul Ecology. Fuck. Just fuck. I'm going to stay far away from Olney now. Nitpicker of the Wastes 16:17, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh nononononono....i dunno if it's the amount of moonshine ive been drinking but deathclaws seem to die VERY quickly........with a chinese pistol and a vault jumpsuit....gee,thanks bethesda....turn the most feared creature sin the wastes into target practise.....NOW they have destroyed fallout....wheres my beretta?Im gonna end this shit Butter 16:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Shit. Mothership Zeta's Alien weapons will fuck the entire Vault. Bethesda has ended any hope of Fallout 4 being good. Patch, I beg of you! Nitpicker of the Wastes 16:27, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I had hoped the weapons would be balanced in thing we know the disintegrator will do 99999999 and shoot dog shit Butter 16:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's really a big deal though because it still takes a bit to kill some of the enemies. Feral Ghoul Reavers still take forever to kill with a Tri-Beam Laser Rifle or even the Backwater Rifle. Mirelurks and Mirelurk Hunters are pretty easy to kill with the Lever-Action Rifle though but it still takes a bit with Swamplurks. I kind of like knowing I have stronger weapons.

Besides, the attack of my Gauss Rifle and Chinese Assault Rifle always changed a bit. My Gauss Rifle at full would have an ATK of 69 then about twenty minutes later, it would have an ATK of 83. If you're that concerned with your overpowered weapons, just change the difficulty.Hammer Bro. Mike 19:03, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

you know somethings up when my BB gun does 14 damage. That kills a mid level raider in 4 shots! New Vegas guns will shoot smallpox infested blankets and do 98789898778888 damage. Realisim is fucked.

Question Edit

I looked at the stats, and the Chinese assault rifle's were all better, is there any better use for this gun???

Is it me or does the sound for the assault rifle on this page use the chinese assault rifle sound? --Daredfox (talk) 07:13, February 3, 2013 (UTC)

--Evanejd 23:54, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

I have the Xuanlong Assault Rifle. Its a unique chinese assault rifle. I rareley use it because CARs are rare, so its hard to repair. I mostly use the R91 because its VERY easy to repair. Plus my small guns skill is at 100 and my agility is at 10. So, I can pretty much kill anything with the R91. If you have the right skills, its the right gun for you.--Дикий Человек Вампира 03:53, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Reload Time Edit

Is it me or does this reload slightly faster than the CAR? I'm not sure about it but it looked like that to me. Anyone agrees?? Setimir92 20:36, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

Yep. It takes 2.2 seconds to reload a CAR, only 2 for the R91. Nitty 20:45, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

Car Vs. Ar

Personaly I find the CAR is superior in every way to the R91, however I find this gun is sweet looking and sounding and I always seem to cary them both. Im lvl 28 so I dont really care what weapons I use but I would love it if they changed the models.

Yeah, I like to spend time using my Winterized Assault Rifle on wasteland critters. At level 24 and Superior Defender and Ghoul ecology, I figured it would be unfair to the wasteland if I used the Xuanlong.--Hollow Points 02:00, December 12, 2009 (UTC)Hollow Points

I'ts obvious that CAR is better but I just prefer the look and the sound of AR, dunno why. Setimir92 22:00, December 17, 2009 (UTC)

its just a gun. the car is better! 23:46, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

References Edit

Should someone put in that its a refference to a Thomson, used in WW2, because its pretty much the came thing, apart from the stock and the magazine size.Mary roc 11:23, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Doubtful. This looks nothing like a Tommy gun. Nitty Tok. 12:29, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

There were two types of thomson, one that had a disc sphaped mag in the 50's and another used in WW2 which had a cuboid one.Mary roc.

There is still no resemblance. Both the stock and the magazine shape are different, as well as the entire front of the gun, and the lack of a second handle, and the caliber they're chambered for. There is no reference. And it's "Thompson", not "thomson". Nitty Tok. 12:18, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't it be mentioned Edit

that the R91 is referred to as the "G3" in the game coding? {{SUBST:Signatures/YuriKaslov}} 01:18, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

G3? Like Heckler and Koch G? They do have some similarities. But, ya, I think so.--Blahmarrow 01:25, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

No, it can't be mentioned, because if it is, then someone will think otherwise and will edit the information. I don't want to see that on the main page, for I fear that an edit war will break out. Torq95 22:45, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, somebody will go against how it is referred to in the game coding. That's what all ignoramuses do. It's called something like "falloutg3" or something to that effect. {{SUBST:Signatures/YuriKaslov}} 22:52, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

HK41 Edit

Is it just me or does this weapon bear an uncanny resemblance to the Heckler & Koch HK41 (G3A3)? -- 00:49, October 14, 2012 (UTC)

its modeled after the first models of the g3

Sim version Edit

As an explanation, I want to say that I'm not a native english speaker, and I ask this question only because of that.

Does "sim version" mean "simulation version"? (User:Krypciak970 17:44, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Yes. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 02:54, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

Top image file name Edit

I've never seen a developer citation cofirming that the assault rifle was based off of the G3 assault rifle. The file should probably be renamed. Great Mara (talk) 01:39, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Indeed. Richie9999 (talk) 02:07, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

FN FAL Assault Rifle Comparison Edit

This rifle in appearance, has a very similar appearance to a variant FN FAL rifle if comparing the two images. The one here: is the one i compared it too. Differences I found were that is used the 7.62x51mm NATO round, similar to the Winchester .308, and different colors of the sock and barrel cover. I hope this helps improve content. Andrew03 (talk)

No real world weapon comparisons are allowed on the wiki unless there is a developer citation or it shares its name with its real world counterpart, neither of which is true with this assault rifle. Richie9999 (talk) 00:48, May 18, 2017 (UTC)
