Paladin Swafford was a member of the Brotherhood of Steel in Appalachia before 2102.
Background[]
Swafford held the rank of paladin in the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. Their power armor helmet was marked with white arrows pointing towards the visor. They were killed by super mutants during the Battle of Huntersville and were buried southeast of the town in the Brotherhood graveyard.[1] Their grave can be found with a graveyard note affixed to the marker, under a power armor helmet bearing their rank, name, and "Ad Victoriam."
Appearances[]
Paladin Swafford is mentioned only in Fallout 76.
Behind the scenes[]
- When asked if Paladin Swafford is the same Swafford mentioned in the Whitespring bunker, lead designer Ferret Baudoin, the writer of most of the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel story, recalled neither the character nor a second paladin beside Paladin Taggerdy, noting that the intention was that there was to be only one paladin.[Non-game 1]
- This character shares a name with Fallout 76 additional level designer Trevor Swafford. According to level designer Steve Massey, another person on the level design team named the character after Swafford while the two were working on the project.[Non-game 2]

I'm usually really on top of that. I think uh... I don't recollect that. Cause Paladin Taggerdy, if it was a knight or something like that, I could see that being somebody, but you know... I think there's only one Paladin."
