Survival was a gameplay mode in Fallout 76. It was released in a beta form as part of the Wild Appalachia update with patch 7.5 on March 26, 2019.
It was disabled on October 1, 2019. Bethesda Softworks stated that feedback would be revisited after the release of the Wastelanders update, though it was later confirmed that Survival mode incurred significant testing costs and focus would be redrawn to the standard Adventure mode and Nuclear Winter.[1]
The "High Risk" world setting serves as a spiritual successor to the game mode, although there are no exclusive rewards from it.
Features[]
Survival mode has a significant impact on gameplay:
- Any player character can attack and deal damage at anyone, without any damage reductions.
- The number of caps lost when killed by another player is 25% of that character’s level.
- If someone kills the player character, they can pay some caps to tag their killer for a "Wanted" bounty, making them visible to anyone on the map.
- Scoreboards: Map highlights for the top 3 ranked players are now based on the Players Killed scoreboards.
- The caps reward for killing a player character is doubled.
- A +20% XP bonus is received from any source.
- At the end of every week, a scoreboard shows how much progress the player character has made. The top three are tagged with bronze, silver and gold rewards, and are visible for any other player character on the map.
- The player character can only respawn at Vault 76, friendly C.A.M.P. sites or train stations.
- Player characters will drop all junk and a minimum amount of aid items on death.
- Special challenges involving hunting creatures, solving event quests or searching for supplies throughout Appalachia are only available in this mode. Rewards may include unique items.
