Happy anniversary, my love. I made my way down to the lake again-just like the old days, sitting on that same bench where I first laid eyes on you, where we used to watch the otters together.
It's not the same anymore. Some fancy newfangled agricultural people got involved a few years back, promising to make our lives better. Started with them dumping a little into the lake; little became a lot quickly. Can't take a dip in it anymore. There was this big lawsuit. Talk of the town for a little bit. A kid got real sick. Never did hear what came out of it; the family left not long after it started.
I suppose after the kids left we just stopped coming. I should have brought you more; you always loved it. When I'm here, it feels like I have a piece of you with me again. I think I'll keep coming. I do wish the otters were still around.
