Steve & Sons is an unmarked location and pre-War company in Atlantic City in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update part two, America's Playground. It is a building found in the flooded city center.

Background[]

Located in a brick building erected in 1914,[1] Steve & Sons was a family business that remained in the family for generations. The latest in the S&S line, Robert, despised the wet Atlantic City, developing acute hydrophobia after witnessing his mother drown during a boating accident. Robert moved out to dry Nevada to escape the coastal city around 2067. However, when his father reached seventy and started getting weaker, he moved back to the city in July 2077. He planned to support his father until he passed, then sell the business and return home.[2]

His father insisted on working the shop himself until his son was ready to take over, which led to a hip fracture when he fell while restocking the shelves. Despite being over 70 years old, he refused to retire.[3] Robert passed the time by reconnecting with his old friends from high school, though one outing revealed the depth of his hydrophobia: Drunk, he went to the beach with his friends and suffered a panic attack when a wave resulted in water enveloping his feet.[4]

This proved disastrous during the Great War: When the waves caused by the detonations flooded the city, Robert was paralyzed by fear. The incoming wave devastated the lower floor, trapping his father behind the counter as Robert panicked and huddled upstairs, terrified by the flood wave. His father died on the stairwell,[5] enveloped by water levels reaching almost to the second floor.[6] For three days, Robert hid in his room, burning through his food supplies. On October 27, a rescue boat reached the district and was gathering survivors. Robert almost got inside, before his acute hydrophobia caused him to retreat inside, fearing that the boat might tip over.[7]

Eventually, Robert died in his chair, a short distance away from his father's body, and the building was condemned and boarded up, becoming little more than support for other buildings.

Layout[]

The actual shop is not accessible, with only the room with Robert's body available, through an opening on the eastern side of the building. Inside is Robert's terminal, a locked safe, and several radroaches.
