Spank or Spank Live are a New York-based a cappella doo-wop group founded in 1987. The members include Scout Ford.
Fallout 76[]
Spank recorded a cover of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" which plays on Appalachia Radio in Fallout 76 and was used in the Fallout 76 trailer.
The teaser trailer was released on May 30, 2018. Pete Hines formally announced the availability of the cover to download for charity and the name of the group on July 4, 2018.[1]
Group member Scout Ford was interviewed by the expatalachians website on March 5, 2019, regarding the recording process.[2]
According to Ford, the recording process for the song was fairly involved, with Fallout 76’s creators sending guidance on the specific harmonies they were looking for in the song and Spank giving several recordings to the game makers. “We did it according to what the client wanted, but we were able to layer the harmonies with our own sound,” Ford said.
When asked which if any of the hundred versions of “Country Roads” inspired his take on the song, Ford was resolute. “When I listened to it, I heard John Denver,” he said. “It was a great song, it was sung well, and people can feel it. It’s like classical music. People feel it even when they can’t understand it,” Ford said.”The E3 trailer for the Nuclear Winter update for Fallout 76, released on June 9, 2019, featured their cover of the song "Ring of Fire." It was later added to the game on Appalachia Radio.
