The sonic-soundwave-emitter-projecto-gun, or more simply the sonic emitter, is a weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
Background[]
A pistol-grip device that focuses sonic waves and emits them at a target, it was developed at the Big Mountain Research Facility by Doctor 8 before the Great War, with additional testing and modifications done by various members of Big MT's research staff. It was designed and programmed to accept different recorded frequencies to change its effect on targets, ranging from paralysis to dismemberment to incendiary ignition.
With the addition of a vertebrae-pulse-de-sensitizer frequency developed in the X-8 research center, the weapon gains the ability to disrupt Big MT's many force fields.
Characteristics[]
Composed of a gray metallic tube outfitted with four vacuum tubes, a housing for a small energy cell, a conical muzzle, and a rear-mounted oscilloscope, all attached to a pistol grip, the sonic emitter shares some visual features with other pistol-grip energy weapons, such as the pulse gun, Euclid's C-Finder, and the recharger pistol. Reprogramming the sonic emitter via the Jukebox changes the color of the oscilloscope and energy rings, as well as introducing unique effects when the weapon scores a critical hit.
All variants of the sonic emitter are considered improved holdout weapons. They can be repaired with any other variant of the sonic emitter, and any energy pistol with the Jury Rigging perk.
Variants[]
Sonic emitter - Gabriel's bark[]
Deals bonus damage against robots and power armor wearers. Inflicts a "critical strike knockback" effect which knocks enemies back on a critical strike.
- Found in a random dig spot in the residential test area in the X-8 research center. Robo-scorpions will spawn in the facility upon taking it.
Sonic emitter - opera singer[]
Deals bonus damage against robots and power armor wearers. Inflicts a "critical strike dismemberment" effect which cripples the target's limbs on a critical strike. Additionally, getting the killing blow with a critical strike results in the enemy being blown to gory bits, similar to the Bloody Mess perk.
- Found on top of a nightstand in the second-floor bedroom of house #108 in Higgs Village.
Sonic emitter - revelation[]
Deals bonus damage against robots and power armor wearers. Inflicts a "critical strike paralysis" effect which temporarily paralyzes the target with a critical strike.
- Automatically given during Welcome to the Big Empty.
Sonic emitter - robo-scorpion[]
Deals bonus damage against robots and power armor wearers. Inflicts a "critical strike explosion" effect that detonates on impact with a critical strike.
- Found in the chamber of the X-42 giant robo-scorpion in the Forbidden Zone, on the highest platform opposite the entrance and near the door to Mobius' lab.
Sonic emitter - tarantula[]
Deals bonus damage against robots and power armor wearers. Inflicts a "critical strike incendiary" effect which ignites the target with a critical strike.
- Found on top of the computer in the leftmost second floor room of house #00 in Higgs Village.

Notes[]
- The sonic emitter is a type of weapon, not an individual model. The five models are variants of each other, but there is no basic variant.
- The "Revelation" variant is considered the "basic" variant; it is the only one available to be purchased from the Sink Central Intelligence Unit if the original one was lost whereas while access to each of the other variants requires the Courier to find the matching holotape and install the Jukebox.
- Despite being stated to weaponize sound frequencies, the sonic emitter is affected by the Laser Commander perk.
- While narratively speaking, getting a different variant involves Blind Diode Jefferson reprogramming the player's sonic emitter with the requested effect, in terms of game mechanics, the previous sonic emitter is actually traded with a new instance of the variant that is requested, resulting in receiving a new emitter at nearly full condition (about 90% of full weapon health), regardless of the condition of the emitter that is brought. This also means that it is effectively unnecessary to repair the weapon during Old World Blues.
- Although the pulse gun does more damage and bonus EMP damage against all robots, all variants of the sonic emitter deal +20 damage against Big MT robots and +50 damage against Mojave robots and power armor.
Appearances[]
All variants of the sonic emitter appear only in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
