Somah is an abducted Slaver in the Fallout 3 add-on Mothership Zeta in the year 2277

Background

Somah can be heard referring to cages in Mothership Zeta being similar to the "sla- I mean, prisoners back home", circumstantially affiliating her with the Slavers. Other evidence supporting this hypothesis include her Merc Veteran Outfit, commonly worn by Slavers, and an unused test reference for her in the game files being set to use the Slaver character class. Additionally, Somah admits to working for a group "just doing it for the caps" heard in Alien Captive Recording 22. Collectively, this all seems to indicate she either work(ed/s) as a slaver, or as a mercenary/mechanic for them. It is actually possible to learn of Somah's past by passing a speech check, using the Lady Killer perk or passing an easier speech check if you found the recording 22. However, due to a bug, these conversation choices are not displayed in the game.

Effects of player actions

She is located in the same cell you are in when you wake up after the aliens abduct you. She can't tell you much, but does have a plan to escape: she suggests that the aliens want all the humans alive, so they'll just have to fake a fight to make it look like one of them will die. After hitting each other for a while, two aliens will come to the cell door. At this point, Somah becomes a friendly character again and joins the player in their fight against the alien captors.

After reaching the Engineering Core and completing Not of This World, she can Repair your items (up to 100%!), insisting you pay her for her services. Additionally, Somah is the companion from the group able to assist you in destroying the generator in the Robot Assembly area.

Appearances

Somah appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on Mothership Zeta.

Notes

  • During your initial conversation with her it is possible to access a unique dialog option using the Mysterious Stranger perk.
  • After the final quest, she "leaves the ship" but is essentially removed, though she can be reactivated via console commands.

Bugs

  • In some cases, Somah's repair skill starts off at 100, in other cases 75.
  • In some cases, Somah disappears when the quest Who Dares Wins (Broken Steel add-on) is finished, however can be fixed via console enabling the NPC again (PC version).
  • While you are fighting the hostile alien ship in the bridge, Somah goes down after a serious hit by the enemy ship. While she is down, you have an option to talk to her. When you select it, you will be able to loot her body (essentially pickpocketing her with a 100% chance of success).
  • After you've completed your spacewalk and passed through the second airlock, Somah and everyone else will join you (via teleporter). Sometimes Somah's forehead will be transparent and you can see only her eyes and hair.
  • It is possible to exploit a bug to get all of your items repaired for free. After you have completed This Galaxy Ain't Big Enough..., talk to her on the bridge and have her repair your items, then exit dialog. Somah will then use the alien computer she's standing in front of; while she is using it, shoot her. She will fall down and you can loot her "corpse" for your caps and her ammo too (100 Shotgun Shells) if you like. Afterward, she will just get up like nothing happened.
  • It is also possible to have Somah fix all of your items at the begining of This Galaxy Ain't Big Enough... or earlier possibly. Then, using a Cryo Grenades you get from Elliot Tercorien, you can freeze her and loot her, retrieving all your caps back without any repercusions from her character or others. This exploit was used repeatedly to repair items obtained from the Weapons Lab at the begining of This Galaxy Ain't Big Enough... while she was standing in the hall of the Observation Deck (PS3 version).
