Well, you see, I thought I needed a battery for the thing but all I really need is a fuel cell controller. Them things was always going bad on 'em.

Smitty is a mechanic working and living at his junkyard in the Den in 2241.

Background[]

A greasy old coot with dirty work-clothes on, Smitty has been managing the junkyard, which he owns,[1] and fixing up things in the Den longer than anyone can remember. Mostly he watches over his inventory, and the only thing he has that is worth much is his working vehicle. Although he doesn't have a high opinion of the Den, it is his home, and he likes being settled there.[2] He is dedicated to his work and loves every moment he spends working on his machines. So much, in fact, that he often forgets to get a proper meal. Luckily, Mom knows to look out for Smitty.[3][4]

His personal pride is a Chryslus Motors Highwayman he restored to working condition, but lacks the crucial fuel cell controller necessary to make it work.[5][2]
