This page is about the roadway. For the caravan event, see Caravan: Skyline Drive. For the region in which the roadway is found, see Skyline Valley (region). |
Skyline Drive is a roadway in the former United States in Fallout 76. It is the major roadway featured in the Appalachian region of Skyline Valley.
Background[]
Running throughout the Shenandoah National Park in the state of Virginia before the Great War, Skyline Drive was a scenic thoroughfare that was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.[1]
Layout[]
The main roads of Skyline Drive create a largely circular shape surrounding the Skyline Valley region. It is functionally disconnected from other roadways in Appalachia. This is because one of the main tunnels in and out of Skyline Drive, located at the northern Skyline Drive: Entrance area, is collapsed. Another tunnel leading out of Skyline Drive, situated at the southern Milepost Zero location, has been taken over by the Blue Ridge Caravan Company. The Marys Rock Tunnel is another prominent tunnel along the roadway, though it is within Skyline Valley itself and is not an exit.
Appearances[]
Skyline Drive appears in Fallout 76, introduced in the Skyline Valley update.
Behind the scenes[]
- The real-world Skyline Drive is a National Parkway that spans 105 miles in the Shenandoah National Park's section of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has been in operation since 1939, and, as mentioned in an in-game loading screen, the Civilian Conservation Corps had a large role in its construction.
- Lead designer Carl McKevitt took a research trip to the real-life Skyline Drive in 2023, and teased its eventual appearance in-game on Twitter.[Non-game 1]
