Shouldn't have left is a paper note in Fallout 76, introduced in the Burning Springs update.

The note can be found south outside of the Athens city limits, at an unmarked campsite on a hill, on the way to Shade Hill Church.

Mom,
I went out with some of the college kids; we wanted to help. We took some food and water, but we ran into trouble when we got to Albany. We ran into some people on the roads. People that had guns. We told them we were here to help, and they took everything. They shot Jerome dead.We
tried to come back to town, but the soldiers wouldn't let us near. I know we weren't supposed to drink the water, but we were so thirsty. Now we're sick. Our hair is falling out. We've all got these sores too. They itch and burn. Marge is having trouble speaking and her nose is turning black. There are other sick people out here too. We're sticking together so the bandits can't take the food we can find.
I'm really scared. I'm sorry I left.
