Deacon Shem Drowne (1683–1774) was a coppersmith living in Boston around the time of the American Revolutionary War.[1]

Background

Shem Drowne was a coppersmith and a church deacon living in Boston around the time of the American Revolutionary War. He was responsible for creating the Gilded grasshopper statue on top of Faneuil Hall, commissioned by the owner of the hall, Peter Faneuil. He was buried in the North End graveyard, along with his sword and several valuables.
