The United States Secret Service (or simply Secret Service) is a United States federal law enforcement agency. As of 2241, this division of the Secret Service still exists as a part of the Enclave.

Background

Founded in 1865, shortly after the American Civil War, as part of the Department of the Treasury to combat the widespread counterfeiting of the U.S. dollar, the Secret Service later became the de facto federal police force alongside the United States Marshals Service until the creation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1908.

Prior to 2241, the Secret Service had been reorganized by the Enclave into a more suitable role for their goals in the post-nuclear era. It was tasked with protecting the function of the government (including the president), and included stealth operations on the mainland, such as silencing a Brotherhood of Steel outpost,[1] deploying experimental genetically modified creatures into hostile environments, disposing of said creatures when appropriate, and retrieving or assassinating certain wastelanders.

One of its most infamous members was Frank Horrigan.[2] He was considered an elite and seasoned 'special'-rank agent of not only the Secret Service but proved himself to be one of the most deadly and infamous assets of the entire Enclave.

Notes

The Enclave Secret Service is not the same entity as those operating in Appalachia.[3]

Appearances

This division of the Secret Service appears only in Fallout 2.

Behind the scenes

The Secret Service is based on the real world United States Secret Service.

We'll bring civilization back to this corner of the country." Note: The Appalachian Secret Service seek to reconstruct civilization through the use of establishing a gold-backed currency. The Enclave Secret Service tasks are to protect the President, and carry out missions in the wasteland.
