The United States Secret Service (or simply Secret Service) is a United States federal law enforcement agency operating under the auspices of the Department of the Treasury. As of 2241 the Secret Service still exists as a part of the Enclave.

Founded in 1865, shortly after the American Civil War, as part of the Department of the Treasury to combat the widespread counterfeiting of the US Dollar, the Secret Service later became a de facto federal police force alongside the United States Marshals Service until the creation of the Bureau of Investigation, the precursor of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in 1908.

After the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901, the Service was informally asked by Congress to provide presidential protection, and in 1902 began providing full-time protection to the president. They continued in this role for over the next century and a half, up until right before the Sino-American War escalated into the nuclear exchange that came to be known as the Great War.

Shortly before the Great War the United States government quietly removed the gold bullion from Fort Knox to a new installation in Appalachia, Vault 79. By removing the gold from the well-known Fort Knox, the intent was to assist the re-establishment of government by ensuring that the federal reserve would be hidden from Chinese nuclear strikes, and survive for use by members of the Federal government. The Secret Service was placed in charge of protecting the vault and its gold reserves, along side members of the United States Armed Forces, with Derek Garrison acting as the agent in charge. This Secret Service has no relation to the Enclave.

Prior to 2241, the Secret Service had been reorganized by the Enclave into a more suitable role for their goals in the post-nuclear era. It was tasked with protecting the function of the government (most notably the President), and included stealth operations on the mainland. Such as to silence an outpost of the Brotherhood of Steel,[2] deployment of experimental genetically modified creatures into hostile environments, dispose of said creatures when appropriate, and to retrieve and/or assassinate certain wastelanders.

One of its most infamous members was Frank Horrigan. He was considered an elite and seasoned 'special'-rank agent of not only the Secret Service but proved himself to be one of the most deadly and infamous assets of the entire Enclave.[3]

After the Destruction of Control Station ENCLAVE, the official fate of the Secret Service as a whole remains unknown, although it is plausible that remaining or surviving agents relocated with the rest of the Enclave away from New California,[4] were killed in the explosion or managed to escape beforehand.

The Secret Service appears in Fallout 2 and in the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update. It is also mentioned in the Fallout Bible.

Behind the scenesEdit

The Secret Service is based on the real world United States Secret Service (USSS).

  4. The Courier: "Where did the Enclave go?"
Arcade Gannon: "A lot of different places. I only know what I was told. Some of them were cut down by the NCR and the Brotherhood. Some of them went east. My mother never told me what happened to my father, but she and I went south with some others and integrated into the NCR. When the NCR learned that Enclave personnel had integrated, we kept moving to the fringes. It's one of the reasons why I wound up out here."
