I know that this place was originally a mining town before the NCR took it over. I think they mined gold before the war.Private Edwards

The Searchlight East gold mine is a location in the Mojave Wasteland, southeast of Camp Searchlight and northwest of Fire Root Cavern.

The mine consists of a single large cavern containing derelict mining equipment and a group of Viper gunslingers inside. After the first group is killed and the Courier reaches the back of the cave, the second group of four Viper gang members will spawn at the entrance. There is also a hollowed-out rock on top of the rocky outcropping across from the entrance.[1]

The Searchlight East gold mine appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

  1. Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide Collector's Edition Tour of the Mojave Wasteland Searchlight East gold mine p. 423: "Mesh reinforced paths and a small bridge over the side of the ravine lead to one of two gold mines close to town. Climb the shale pile southeast of the entrance to locate a well-hidden Hollowed-Out Rock."
