Scavenger's note is a paper note in Fallout 76, introduced in the Burning Springs update. Another note with the same title, but a different transcript, was cut from the update.
Location[]
This note can be found next to a dead Highway Town settler and Pulowski Preservation shelter, behind the Slocum's Joe in the northeastern side of Athens.
Transcript[]
If you're reading this, Schmidt got us killed just as we said he would. Athens has been a legend of untouched loot for a reason, but he insisted that we'll not only be fine, but rich beyond worries.
Walking in, Deb shared my sentiment of unease, but Schmidt insisted that the warning signs were too old to be relevant. Setting up camp at the university seemed to prove him right, and by damn did he rub it in. Once set up, he had half of the group head in to scout while the rest of us rested. They've been gone a while now, and it's getting dark. We're starting to worry.
I think I hear things creeping around us, and if we're sprung, I'm not sticking around. And since you're reading this, you shouldn't either.

HOLOTAPE RECORDING
[Sounds of a man running and panting]
"Oh God oh God oh God"
[Sound of metal garbage can being knocked into as man hides]
"Shit. I just KNEW Baxter's greed was gonna get us killed"
[Woman's scream heard in distance]
"Oh God... We saw the signs before we entered, but he made us ignore them! We had a bad feeling when the initial scout group went out and didn't come back. Then Baxter had the BRIGHT IDEA to shout to them...The ferals just came right out of the walls! God we didn't even realize we were surrounded!"
[Sound of feral ghouls spotting man and running at him]
[Man screams "NOOO!" and recording ends]
