Santa Monica Pier was a pre-War attraction in Los Angeles County, California which appears in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

Located in Santa Monica, California, Santa Monica Pier was a popular tourist attraction which included a small amusement park (with a Ferris wheel and roller coasters), concession stands, and areas for viewing the Pacific Ocean. The entrance to Vault 33 was built just slightly further inland from the pier.

As of 2296, much of the pier up to its Ferris wheel is still standing, but the sections further past have collapsed into the ocean. Save for some scattered buildings and the now-exposed entrance of Vault 33, most of the surrounding area has been desertified, with little remaining of the urban ruins of Santa Monica proper.

Appearances[]

Santa Monica Pier appears in the Fallout television series in the episode The End and its end credits. However, the corresponding area is also visible on the first Fallout game's world map.

Behind the scenes[]

The Santa Monica Pier was filmed at Elizabeth Bay, Namibia, a ghost town and former diamond mine. Visual effects were used to add the pier's Ferris wheel and roller coaster, as well as the Malibu Mountains in the background, but everything else in the shots was practical.[1]
