San Onofre, or the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, was a pre-war nuclear power plant located near the Boneyard and Irvine in New California.

Background

On October 23, 2077, disposal trucks were sent out from the San Onofre nuclear power plant to dispose of nuclear waste. However, due to the Great War breaking out, drivers instead drove to Searchlight, where they abandoned the trucks in a fire station. Only two trucks would fit, so the third headed for Cottonwood Cove where it appears the driver tried to illegally dump it down into the cove.[1]

Appearances

San Onofre is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes

San Onofre is based on the real world location of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), south of San Clemente, California. The station was permanently shut down in 2013, after wear was discovered on more than 30,000 tubes in the steam generator, posing serious danger to the surrounding communities. These include the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego.
