Robert A. Altman (February 23, 1947–February 3, 2021) was the chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, from 1999 until his death in 2021. He was credited on Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.
Career[]
Altman was an educated lawyer who practiced law in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. He represented several major companies and banks in front of Congress, though a legal dispute related to the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) in the 1990s caused him to be permanently barred from banking. After the trial, he continued to practice in Washington, D.C. but left law to co-found ZeniMax Media in 1999. He partnered with Bethesda Softworks founder Christopher Weaver to create a new parent company for Bethesda. Altman served as chairman and CEO of ZeniMax until his death in 2021.[1]
Personal life[]
Robert, a Jewish American, was the son of Norman Altman and Sophie Robinson, and was one of 4 children.
Robert was married to Wonder Woman television series actress Lynda Carter. She makes an appearance in Fallout 4, voicing a character as well as recording several songs for its soundtrack. Together they had two children, Jessica and James Altman, the latter of which is the Director of Publishing Operations at Bethesda Softworks. They lived in Potomac, Maryland.
Robert died at the age of 73 on February 3, 2021, following complications from a medical procedure. His death was announced by Bethesda the next day.[2]
