The Red Rocket gas station is a location in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

One of many franchise locations across the United States owned by the pre-War Red Rocket company, this particular gas station is located somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area. It features a Nuka-Cola cooler and vending machine, as well as a milk vending machine.

By the late 23rd century, parts of it have become overgrown but the structure itself remains largely intact.

In the TV series[]

The Radio[]

Thaddeus attempts to cross the wasteland carrying Siggi Wilzig's head containing the cold fusion artifact. However, he is hampered both by his mangled foot after it was accidentally crushed by Maximus' T-60 power armor during their scuffle, and by the relentless pursuit by Wilzig's canine CX404 trying to retrieve his head. When Thaddeus reaches the abandoned gas station, he does a brief examination of his injured foot, then notices the old Nuka-Cola cooler. He opts to lock the dog in there to prevent her from interfering, making an empty promise to come back later as he limps away.[1]

Sometime later, the Ghoul, following the trail of the head, comes to the gas station and hears CX404's whimpering. After letting her out of the cooler, he begrudgingly adopts her as his own companion.[1]

Appearances[]

The Red Rocket gas station appears only in the Fallout TV series episode "The Radio."

Behind the scenes[]

  • Scenes set at the Red Rocket gas station were filmed at a real gas station in Nyack, New York,[Meta 1] which went on sale in 2020.[2] The gas station has also served as a film set for the Keanu Reeves film John Wick.[3]
    • According to production designer Howard Cummings, the showrunners did not originally intend for a Red Rocket station to appear in the TV series until he made a request to create one. The owner of the Nyack gas station allowed the film crew to use it for a period of five days; the set was built in three days, shooting occurred in one day, and the last day was used to take down the set.[Meta 2]
  • The Ghoul encountering CX404 (whom he later nicknames "Dogmeat") at the Red Rocket gas station is a reference to Fallout 4, in which the Sole Survivor meets that game's Dogmeat at a Red Rocket truck stop.
