Showdown in Skull Canyon cover

Twinjaw Rattler, mutated in the Mojave Wasteland.

Rattlesnakes are venomous snakes endemic to the Americas. The American Southwest was home to the majority of their species. Rattlesnakes survived the Great War and were common enough that the sound of their tell-talle rattle was uniquitous during wasteland travels.[1]

Rattlesnakes were likely among the snakes worshipped by Vipers.[2] The Arroyo tribe was familiar with rattlesnakes, considered to exemplify meanness.[3]

Rattlesnake DNA was also used at Big MT to create night stalkers. The "children" of Z-9 Crotalus DNA preservation lab would be a persistent pest in regions surrounding the research facility, such as the Mojave.[4]

Notes[]

  • Showdown in Skull Canyon is the first time a rattlesnake, albeit mutated and with two heads, officially appears in any Fallout title.
  • Rattletail, a former town in Baja is likely named after the Rattlesnake's tail.

Appearances[]

The mutated rattlesnake known as the Twinjaw Rattler appears in the Fallout: The Roleplaying Game scenario Showdown in Skull Canyon.

Rattlesnake sound effects are commonly used in Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. The hybridized rattlesnake and coyote appears in Fallout: New Vegas. A two-headed rattlesnake was planned to appear in Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios.
