Anti-radiation chems to be taken before exposure. No known side effects.

Rad-X is a chem in Fallout Tactics.

Background[]

Main article: Rad-X

A potent anti-radiation oral[1] chem that bolsters the user's natural radiation resistance. Taking an ampoule[2] prior to exposure is recommended, as it can greatly reduce irradiation, particularly when combined with advanced radiation suits.[3][4] The medicine is potent enough to make even the worst radioactive hotspots like The Glow survivable.[5] Unlike most other chems, Rad-X is addiction-free and has no side effects, making it perfectly safe to use. Furthermore, the duration can be stacked if multiple doses are taken at once.[6]

Before the war, Rad-X was recommended by nine out of ten doctors as a daily dosage for Americans in order to prevent ill effects seen in individuals with "frailer constitution."[7] After the Great War, it is an universally sought-after chem due to its protective qualities, both by wastelanders[8] and people in sheltered environments, like the Enclave's oil rig and its perennially failing nuclear reactor.[9] Apart from counteracting nuclear fallout, Rad-X is also used for temporarily suppressing mutations,[10] protecting against contaminated water,[11] and filtering irradiated supplies to make them safe for use.[12]

Rad-X can be readily manufactured and is a major export good in places like Vault City.[13] However, it can also be created in smaller quantities with common ingredients and some scientific knowledge, even by non-specialists,[14] or diluted with purified water to make more doses of lesser strength.[15] New anti-radiation drugs are also being developed that would surpass Rad-X's exceptional protective qualities. Examples include Free States' RadShield[16] and the Brotherhood's X-111 compound.[17]

Characteristics[]

It is an anti-radiation chem to be taken before exposure (unlike RadAway, which removes the effects of radiation after a person gets irradiated).

Despite described as having no harmful effects, in Fallout Tactics it is possible to overdose if taken too quickly or alongside other chems, depending on Endurance.
