Mr. R. Wendt[1] was the head of the now-defunct New England Technocrat Society, encountered as a legendary glowing one in 2287.
Background[]
Prior to the Great War, R. Wendt led the New England Technocrat Society, an association that promoted technology and attempted to alleviate the societal fear of Artificial Intelligence.[2] In 2077, Wendt and the rest of the Society purchased a prototype RobCo computer system to handle air conditioning, lighting, music selection,[3] door locks, and other day-to-day tasks. With the system installed, Wendt finally decided to fire the event coordinator,[4] and would eventually fire the bartender, lighting technician, and the disc jockey as well.[5]
On September 13, Wendt had a political discussion with the AI system that lasted over an hour. He was so pleased with the system that he gave the RobCo programmer in charge of it, Kurt Barlow, a Society membership card.[5] However, by October 5, Wendt changed his mind and revoked Kurt's membership, claiming that the programmer's assistance was no longer necessary, but to "crank the learning model to maximum," despite Kurt warning him against it.[6]
Unbeknownst to Wendt, his employee J. Pratt decided to quit after the Society's Halloween party on October 22, but not before adding a canister of an experimental HalluciGen gas to the building's air system, only opening the valve a little to allow only small amounts of the gas into the air.[7] However, the AI detected the gas in the system, and decided that it would fit in well with the festivities and so opened the valve all the way,[8] causing some of the Society members present to flee while others screamed and clawed their own faces.[9]
Wendt survived the gas attack, but by 2287, has turned into a feral glowing one.
Notes[]
The New England Technocrat Society's AI system noted that R. Wendt and M. Pennyworth both entered the bathroom within 5 minutes of each other, before leaving together approximately half an hour later.[1]
Appearances[]
R. Wendt appears only in Fallout 4, introduced in the next gen update.
