The prototype railway rifle is a unique weapon in Fallout 4.

Characteristics

Unlike the regular railway rifle, this variant has severely reduced damage and fire rate, and only holds a single spike in the chamber. It also cannot be modified.

Location

• Can be stolen off of Terry who is helping test it with Tinker Tom. This event occurs after meeting Tinker Tom for the first time. The prototype spawns during this event, and it will disappear from Terry's inventory soon after he picks himself up from testing the prototype.
• Can be looted off the dead Railroad agent during the quest Tactical Thinking.
