“You have received the specialized training needed to move in any form of Power Armor.”— In-game description
Power Armor Training is a special perk in Fallout: New Vegas.
Obtaining[]
There are only two methods in Fallout: New Vegas for obtaining this perk:
- After completing Still in the Dark for the Brotherhood of Steel, return to either Nolan McNamara or Edgar Hardin, depending on the quest outcome:
- If McNamara remains elder, wait 24 hours outside of the bunker for the lockdown to be lifted, then talk to him. Telling him one wishes to join the Brotherhood of Steel will begin Eyesight to the Blind, requiring reaching the comms station at Black Mountain. After completing that quest, McNamara will induct the player character into the Brotherhood and teach them the perk.[1]
- If Hardin became elder, return to the bunker and talk to him. Telling him one wishes to join the Brotherhood will begin Tend to Your Business, requiring killing the Van Graffs at the Silver Rush in Freeside. After completing that quest, Hardin will induct the player character into the Brotherhood and teach them the perk.[2]
- During For Auld Lang Syne, once the Enclave remnants have been gathered together, Daisy Whitman will teach the perk in addition to providing a suit of Remnants power armor (previously belonging to either Orion Moreno, Cannibal Johnson, or Daisy depending on the faction the Remnants were told to support, and whether Moreno was talked down from deserting if the NCR was chosen).
Effects[]
Gaining this perk grants the ability to equip any set of power armor.
Interactions that require the Power Armor Training perk[]
- Happy Trails Expedition, talking to Ricky and hearing his outlandish story about taking out a "Steel Brotherhood" paladin by firing an "11mm" submachinegun through their helmet's eyeslit.[3] During
Notes[]
- NCR salvaged power armor does not require Power Armor Training in order to be worn, as it is technically no longer power armor due to having its joint servos removed.
- If one completed For Auld Lang Syne before Still in the Dark, Elder McNamara will be astonished over their already knowing how to use power armor, but brushes it off.[4] Elder Hardin (if he was made elder) remarks that he would be suspicious of the player character's training if not for him owing them a lot including his new position.[5]
- The Courier is the only character in the entire game who needs a special perk to wear power armor, whereas companions like Raul, who would likely have no experience with power armor, are capable of wearing it. It's even possible for Fiends to equip power armor.
References[]
- ↑ The Courier: "Don't I just put it on?"
Nolan McNamara: "If only it were that simple. Think of power armor as a machine to be operated rather than clothing you'd wear. With a little instruction, using it becomes as natural as simple movement, but to the ignorant, it's just so much heavy junk. So let's bring you up to speed, shall we? ...There, I think you've got the knack of it now. You should now be able to wear any kind of power armor you come across."
(Nolan McNamara's dialogue) - ↑ The Courier: "It's just like other armor, but heavy, right?"
Edgar Hardin: "Not even close. Power armor isn't something you wear so much as use. It's a weapon in its own right, and takes skill to wield. If you don't know what you're doing, you won't even be able to walk with it on. So how about a bit of quick instruction? ...There, I think you've got the hang of it now. You should be able to use any type of power armor you come across using what you just learned."
(Edgar Hardin's dialogue) - ↑ The Courier: "What a load of crap. The eyeslits of T-series power armor are bullet-proof!"
Ricky: "Then I guess this dumb fucker's armor musta been... D-series or something! All I know is, he died up real dead when I killed him, okay?"
(Ricky's dialogue) - ↑ The Courier: "I already know how to use power armor."
Nolan McNamara: "Would you like to tell me where you learned such a thing? No, don't bother. A person as well-traveled as yourself is bound to pick up all kinds of skills, I suppose. Luckily, that's not all I have for you."
(Nolan McNamara's dialogue) - ↑ The Courier: "Actually, I already know how to use power armor."
Edgar Hardin: "Do you now? If I didn't already owe you a great deal I'd be highly suspicious right now. You'll have to tell me about it sometime."
(Edgar Hardin's dialogue)
