Point Repose is a location in the Savage Divide region of Appalachia in Fallout 76, introduced in the Ghoul Within update.

Background[]

Formerly a Vertibird landing and maintenance yard, Point Repose was named and overhauled by the Revenants of the nearby Radiant Hills. It is now a private grove for ghouls who are turning feral to sequester themselves, so that they can stop themselves from hurting others and isolate during the feral process.[1] It was initially built up by Kevan Asherton to accommodate one woman who started to show signs of going feral, and he did so entirely of his own volition without anyone asking him to create such a place.[2] Point Repose is kept as a sacred place for the Revenants, somewhere for its members to go and eventually be at rest if things ever go bad.[3] Those turning feral make their own decision of when it is time to walk through the "Last Door" into the Vertibird yard, locking the door behind them and tossing the key back over into the main campground, sealing themselves away from the others.[4]

On top of its somber purpose, Point Repose has also emerged as a potential location of interest for scientific reasons. It has a substantial growth of out-of-region flora, possessing acidic soil due to carbon dioxide from the deposing feral ghouls. Gardener Ernie Navarro speculates that rapid radiation-based growth at Point Repose potentially makes the flora act like a hydrangea, changing colors depending on the pH of the soil. However, the radiation at Point Repose has not been as long-tenured as the radioactive barrels at Radiant Hills, and Ernie notes that it is possible the forest surrounding Point Repose could decay in a few years' time.[5]

Layout[]

Point Repose is found north of a dirt road leading out of Radiant Hills, passing by a fence with a crashed off-road vehicle and radioactive barrels, as well as compiled warning signs for radiation. As one approaches Point Repose, there are several seemingly out-of-place trees, with flora from other regions of Appalachia growing here; this is due to the unusual effects of the radiation and feral ghouls on the soil. A fenced perimeter and wooden sign marks the entrance of Point Repose. Inside, two utility protectrons roam around, but there are no other occupants of this first area.

A Quonset hut is the main building here; it contains some bunk beds and a stretcher, as well as bookshelves (with board game junk items) and a desk. Beside this rounded building is a small garage in the form of a shed, where another off-road vehicle is parked. To the north, on the other side of this garage, there is an inactive radio tower near two graves and the skeleton of a soldier. A canoe is stored along the outer western wall of the garage.

In front of the armored personnel carrier parked in the courtyard of Point Repose, there is a cooking station with nearby seating and a playable acoustic guitar. An uprooted tree has fallen nearby.

To access the Vertibird landing yard to the east, one must pass the "Last Door." It is locked and requires a key, which is found on a barrel outside the Quonset hut. After opening the Last Door and walking through the small building into the yard, the area is overgrown with vines and other flora, some of which has encroached on the inactive Vertibirds here. Feral ghouls occupy the yard, and will be hostile to the player, unless they are a ghoul with a drained feral meter. There are several crates and shipping containers stored in the yard alongside the two Vertibirds and several radioactive barrels. Some of the crates bear the insignia of the Vault-Tec Corporation. Near the center of the yard is a small pool of dirty water with skeletons and radioactive barrels; it is lit by a lantern, giving the ditch an orange glow. Another similar pool with this lantern-lit glow is found east of it, though it only has barrels and not skeletons. There are very few items in the yard to loot, aside from a few ammo boxes, including one in the southeastern Vertibird.

Notes[]

  • If a ghoul player character visits Point Repose with their feral meter completely drained, the feral ghouls beyond the "Last Door" will be friendly and will not attack the player character. Although the ferals cannot be interacted with, this is the only time generic feral ghoul enemies will be non-hostile in Fallout 76.
  • Point Repose is the northernmost location on the Fallout 76 world map.
  • A travel-type random encounter may spawn on the road leading to Point Repose.

Appearances[]

Maddox Mullen: "All there is to explain is that one of us started to show signs. So Asher built a place where she could be comfortable... without endangering the others. Nobody asked him to do it. Nobody made an agreement as to who, or when, someone should go in. They decide. That's all there is to it."

  3. Vault 76 dweller: "I don't mean to be insensitive, but doesn't treating it as taboo make it worse?"
Maddox Mullen: "It keeps it sacred. To know that there's a place for you, if things ever go bad... That brings comfort. But trying to reason out how, or why, when there is no reason to it... only brings pain. I say this to you because I can tell you're working through it. But please, don't talk about it with the others. Let them be at peace."
