- The Castle - 100 can be found on dead General McGann, inside the tunnels during the quest Old Guns.
- The Prydwen - Two can be found on a counter in the armory, sitting near a tray with other ammunition.
- Can be found on dead Gunners carrying plasma weapons.
- Found on Gunners at higher levels.
- Sold by various merchants (see table).

- With the Beta patch 1.4, plasma cartridges can now also be found with the Scrounger perk.
- Unlike previously featured weapons in the Fallout series, plasma weapons in Fallout 4 utilize their own form of ammunition instead of sharing them with laser weapons.
