The pillory is a constructible object added with the Fallout 4 add-on Contraptions Workshop.
Characteristics[]
The pillory is constructed from wood and its design consists of a central support with an opening section on it. There are holes for an individual's arms and head located on the top section.
When a settler is assigned to the pillory, they will approach and place themselves in the stocks. Assigning settlers to a pillory has no notable effect on settlement stats.
Crafting[]
The pillory is located under Resources → Miscellaneous in the workshop.

Notes[]
- Assigning a person to a pillory for the first time will grant the Time Out Achievement/Trophy.
- If a pillory is constructed at Sanctuary Hills, then Marcy Long, Jun Long, Mama Murphy, Preston Garvey or Sturges are assigned to it, their unique A.I. package will cause them to leave the pillory every now and again to go hammer the posts in the garage of the yellow house that the workshop is in. Other NPCs such as settlers and even companions will stay in the pillory when assigned.
- A remedy is to build around the posts, overriding their A.I. packages and preventing them from leaving the pillory.
Behind the scenes[]
The pillory was a device used during the Middle Ages, intended to punish criminals by way of public humiliation. Passers-by were encouraged to mock the criminals and throw things like rotten foods and fruits at them.
Bugs[]
When assigning a settler to the pillory they will not enter it but it will still show as assigned.[verified] This can sometimes be remedied by assigning the settler to another workstation and then re-assigning to the pillory, or by moving the pillory to another location.
