Paulie Cantelli is the co-proprietor of A Quick Fix in Rivet City in 2277.
Background[]
Paulie and his wife Cindy run A Quick Fix, the chem dispensary in the Rivet City market. The shop is well known for its good stock;[1] however, it would be doing better if Cindy could trust Paulie enough to be left unattended, let alone close the shop by himself.[2] She has had to get Seagrave Holmes to make a secure storage unit for her, but Paulie stole the key and she has to get a new one.[3] All of this is because Paulie is a chem addict who constantly steals from the shop to fuel his own addictions.[4][5] Cindy has basically come to run the shop herself.[6] At this point, their marriage is almost nonexistent; they barely talk and have little in common. Cindy, and others, have tried to talk some sense into him, but it has not worked, and the strain of his constant chem use and neglect has caused her to give up on him.[7][8][9] Paulie, in his craze for chems, is unaware of how bad things are, both with his addiction and his marriage.[10][Non-game 1][Non-game 2] Should he die for whatever reason, she will initially be relieved,[11] only to realize that she does care for him.[12]
Paulie spends his time chronically abusing chems as dangerous as Psycho and trying to get others to join his binges. His constant pestering of Mei Wong has exacerbated her nervousness,[13][14] not that he remembers it,[15] as he is usually too high and confused to remember anything important.[16] He usually steals most of his chems from Doctor Preston.[17] Even Ted Strayer, who has a positive opinion of chems, thinks Paulie takes it too far.[18] Paulie's chem use has left him so broke[19] that he cannot even pay for meals, offering to trade Mentats for brahmin steak with Angela Staley (she always refuses).[20]
Rivet City security, as well as everyone else, is well aware of Paulie's addiction. Chief Harkness is among the people who try to get him to at least slow down on his usage, to little effect.[21] Both Harkness and Lana Danvers have to remind Paulie to keep away from the edge on the flight deck, well aware that he uses any chance he can to get high and that the risk of an incident is high.[22][23] Paulie, like Cindy, prefers the hangar deck over the upper deck denizenry and dislikes the upper deck for their perceived sense of moral superiority.[24]
Daily schedule[]
He is normally seen roaming around anywhere in Rivet City.

Quests[]
- Wasteland Survival Guide: Paulie can be asked by the player about the history of Rivet City. He does not know of any.[16]
- You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head: Paulie informs the player of the potential whereabouts of Ted Strayer.[25]
- Strictly Profitable: Paulie can be enslaved with the use of the Mesmetron and sold to Grouse. Should this happen, there is no change in dialogue with his wife Cindy Cantelli.
- Overdose: If the player has Psycho in their inventory, they can give it to him for negative Karma (-100 points).[26] If one wants additional negative Karma, they should give him as much Psycho as they can before he dies. There are some drugs (including Psycho) on his own desk, which can be stolen and given back to him.
Effects of player's actions[]
- If the player passes a hard Speech challenge, Paulie will give the location of his chem stash.[17]
- If Cindy Cantelli is dead, Paulie will run A Quick Fix.[27][28][29]

Notes[]
- Paulie Cantelli's medical information may be accessed from Doctor Preston's terminal in the Rivet City clinic.
- It is not possible to help him overcome his addiction. All one can do is encourage, or ignore it.
- If Cindy dies and Paulie takes over control of the shop, the Lone Wanderer will no longer have the option of giving him any more Psycho.
- Paulie believes that, with Doctor Madison Li's science team and Rivet City's security keeping them safe, they have a real chance to rebuild society.[30]

- ↑ Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.90: "Paulie Cantelli
Paulie is your classic addict. His wife, Cindy, runs A Quick Fix, which sells Chems. The shop would actually make money if he would stop using up all the inventory himself. Most of his waking thoughts are about when he can get his next fix. He is frequently distracted and has trouble focusing. Paulie and Cindy are married in name only. They barely talk and share little in common. He isn't even aware of how much he neglects his wife."

Cindy runs A Quick Fix, which sells Chems. Cindy has given up on her addict husband, Paulie Cantelli. They go through the tired motions of a marriage without really interacting with each other. She never uses Chems herself, although she has no problem selling them to others. She has what is called a convenient morality. Currently she has a crush on Bannon but has not gotten up the courage to approach him. However, since he is a regular churchgoer, she is there every Sunday, sitting as close to him as possible."
