Back then, it was war. If we'd been on the winning side, I'd be called a hero.

Orion Moreno is a retired Enclave soldier living in the outskirts of New Vegas in 2281.

Background

This bitter old man with a grudge against the NCR is more than meets the eye. Over forty years ago, Moreno was a proud soldier of the Enclave, serving in the Devil's Brigade as a heavy weapons trooper.[1] He was stationed at Navarro and served under Mark Gannon (Judah Kreger after Gannon's unfortunate death), together with Cannibal Johnson and Doctor Henry (before his defection). Daisy Whitman was the squad's designated Vertibird pilot. Although both he and Johnson were the squad's heavy hitters, Moreno's ruthless demeanor and absence of anything even remotely resembling mercy made him constantly clash with Johnson, who was as close to a conscientious objector as possible. Their fights kept the commanding officers busy much of the time.[2]

Much of Orion's behavior stemmed from his dedication to the Enclave. He never questioned the orders he received or the legitimacy of the Enclave's actions. To him, the Enclave was the United States, in one unbroken chain from George Washington to Dick Richardson. The destruction of control station Enclave and the subsequent fall of Navarro broke something inside him, burning any love or passion that remained within him. The squad, Arcade Gannon's mother and a young Arcade Gannon fled south into the NCR. The fall of the Enclave hit him hard. Arcade remembers him saying "Kiss America goodbye, boys," as they escaped Navarro. They continued to flee east as Enclave personnel trying to integrate into the NCR were being found.[3] While other members of his squad moved on, Moreno remained stuck in the past, yearning to relive his glory days and resenting the NCR for what happened in Navarro.[4] The Mojave Campaign did not improve his view of the Republic, especially not when soldiers came to his house and informed him that he was squatting on NCR land near the sharecropper farms despite living there for far longer than the NCR occupied Hoover Dam.[5]

Quests

  • For Auld Lang Syne: Orion Moreno is one of the Enclave remnants Arcade asks the Courier to find.

Inventory

* He will only have these items when he has returned to the Enclave remnants bunker.

Notes

  • Like the other remnants, Orion has high health, greater than or equal to that of most companions. This, in addition to the high Damage Threshold provided by his armor, makes him something of a boss character and the fight is very difficult at lower levels. He can also use stimpaks, a rarity among hostile non-player characters.
  • Orion's word for the Remnants bunker is "Remember."
  • Killing him results in no Karma loss, but will immediately fail the quest For Auld Lang Syne.

Notable quotes

Appearances

Orion Moreno appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Bugs

  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 When exiting the Vertibird at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, he may not spawn with any weapons. This will cause him to wander about. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 He can be found wandering around Gypsum Train Yard without any items equipped, although he has a Gatling laser, Remnants power armor and Helmet, some Electron Charge Packs, and 3 stimpaks in his inventory. These items can be pickpocketed but will not appear on his corpse if he is killed. If this occurs, he can still be found in his house, so the side quest For Auld Lang Syne is still completable if the other requirements permit. [verified]
